Propellor Troubles!

So when you find an avian ship, you can mine the propeller from the tops. These propellers kill you.

So we've been playing in multiplayer and thought about where to put it, as a monster trap.

He put it on the spawn point. The planet now is completely inhabitable because you will immediately die!


You can also place things on people's ships. You can actually set the propeller where they will kill who ever enters. He actually accidentally ran into it from the other way, which if I wasn't there to destroy it, he could have created an endless death trap. Warp down to the planet, die, come back up die, no choice. A few times in my own ship I could crouch, but the slightest nudge would be instant death.


So uh, obviously, you could permanently make a character unplayable. So that's a problem.

Ouch, this is definitely a problem. Similar to any other player harming objects that you can pick up in the game right now.

 

It literally made my entire friends' server break. For God's sake. Get it out of the game.

 

I think there should just be locks on strangers tampering with ships at all, as well as nothing being able to placed within the few blocks of spawn perhaps (Maybe a server option to be toggled on? I can imagine not wanting that to be the case, but the alternative sucks) Can't really remove all dangerous items as that would invalidate a lot of puzzles and other things, but there should be some limitations to prevent this stuff. Perhaps on note of spawn build block, there could just be something preventing dangerous items there? Though I know nothing of coding and imagine that actually would be a really big hassle to specifically do. That, and then there's still risk of just having the ground of spawn dug out completely, which has happened a bunch on servers I've been on.

 

I feel that making players invincible on their own ship would be an easy enough fix for such problems.

 

Hey ok, so this happened to me as well just now, and this is the solution I figured out. Basically you need to press escape to skip the spawn animation, then hold down the crouch key so you are too low to get killed by the blender, equip pickaxe and remove it. Done done.

 

Yea, make players invulnerable on their own ship and make players invulnerable for a few seconds after being down, would solve both issues.

Again, a situation where dungeon protection appears to have not been properly implemented. I tried jumping into one to see what would happen with predictable results, but I'll admit I never thought about mining the things and using them as traps.

 

..I'm really tempted to do this to my friend's ship now.

 

See if you can find some Tesla Spikes or Saw Blades and set those around too. It'd be hilarious!
