My version ( pre-overhaul ) was based on the Exchange from kotor actually. Dunno what they have done with it though ;3

I always had a Rocky relationship with the exchange.
Apparently they don't like it when I kill their high ranking members.

You and me both. .. But then again, my Revans and Exiles always end up having rocky relationships with everyone. Might be because I always kill everyone. ;3

Oh dear please no. PvP and roleplay on a server can be complicated. Personally I'm not a fan of PvP and it's a bit immersion breaking for me to be ganked by some random people. Also with factions involved it's a bit of a political nightmare. I've seen wars start before over 'random' faction v faction killing. That said, time and a place and I don't see the problem with pre-arranged PvP battles. I just wouldn't like to see it constantly because that doesn't interest me at all.
Has my vote here too, Artemis sounds great.

I'm all for full pvp being allowed as long as there is roleplay beforehand. i.e. you interact, and they interact before pvp can occur. Violators will be shot. Survivors will be shot again. Nothing will stop you from running away from pvp.

Reasons for pvp should be more than being a member of an opposing faction, or just being evil. Competing for resources on a particular planet might be just cause for example.

Yeah, but the trouble with an always on PvP system is it can be roleplay breaking- in basic terms it can be abused. Which means you have to come down hard on people who break those rules.

Until we get an official staff meeting, do not take this as the official "will be" but more as a "could be"

Full loot? Probably not. As I dont like to lose progress and it makes it a little more carebear friendly. I'm a miner by heart, I always mine reguardless of the game. Eve online, WoW, Earth and beyond, Minecraft & Terraria(well thats kind of forced) but i live digging into the virtual earth and finding goodies.

PVP within faction should be consensual only (unless RP deems otherwise) as you would be all on the same side. PVP I think would be always on for Faction vs Faction that was the purpose of designing 3 factions that do not get along well with each other, so that it facilitates the need to combat each other although you can choose not to kill each other.
The universe is a huge place. Devs quoted 16 quixtillion planets. Plenty of space to make your own private getaway and never meet any of the other factions.

That said we will likely have some staff who wish to; act as "reporters" stating possible locations of activity, if PVP is requested eg they request others to find them. Otherwise It could be possible to use universe chat and do this yourself.

There are many ways to tackle the PVP topic. Once we all have a meeting of the staff we will post what we have come to a conclusion of.

Looking forward to flying with you all soon :3

No qualms with Artemis. I'll throw it in the vat of suggested names and see what ye ole staff think of it.

That's where I'll come in. Now, as for how PvP and Roleplaying might mix, you'll see it be part of actual faction wars. How will these even come to pass? Events that are just bound to happen or are made to happen by other player choices. I will be watching and keeping track over who's who in Project [WORKING TITLE] and who's who to whom. If you're part of a military group or a mercenary or bounty hunter then you're bound to get in fights with both NPCs and players. Wouldn't make sense to even have those options if we didn't give people good reasons to use them, but at the same time other players shouldn't worry about being hunted unless if they've really pissed someone off. As said, all of these events will come about either because they are destined (like planetary battles) or because they were made to happen (like getting a bounty on your head).

A little brainstorming here, but you could use the several quintillion planets to hide and law low for a bit. However... if you become a blip on the radar again and you start leaving a trail somehow, you'll know it. Just the same with these immense amounts of planets, you're all free to travel to them and build homes and explore, but don't forget that there is a world of roleplaying out there to be had. I'm currently working out the many ways information could be shared and gained in Project [WORKING TITLE] and I'm going to discuss it with the others as soon as I can. Whatever the final decision is, I'm sure you'll all like it, PvP or not.

Fact is, I know the pain of dealing with PvP griefers and stalkers, but this is a roleplaying server. Randomly ganking somebody just because you can doesn't quite make sense. And no, I'm making a firm decision that there will not be full loot. We're not going to encourage randomly ganking people.

Thanks for the feedback guys it makes sense and I do agree. Hope you continue working on getting ideas down because this is such a lovely idea. My concern was directed mainly at people who perhaps wouldn't understand the roleplay dynamic and break character to grief/gank/team kill for loot or whatever. I actually like the idea of Faction V Faction combat. As long as there was an understanding that you didn't team kill your own faction and if you were neutral and messed with a faction member you'd expect a bounty on your head.

That said I'm sure most people who'd be interested in playing on a roleplay server are happy to do that.

PvP is, yes, interesting when there's not griefing or stalking involved. If Starbound gets a feature that allows certain people that would always be able to be in PvP mode, then there's a potentially-fun system in that to have mercenaries...?

Also, are you guys going to be adding a "Nations" aspect to the roleplay server? Such as making various Homeworlds, that are either in support of one of the 3 (or 4 based on the religious one being drafted?) factions, or just a neutral nation that doesn't give much emphasis to one or the other, or even as just Safe Zones where PvP would never be turned on unless War.

*goes back into the shadows to think of more ideas :p*

I can imagine if somebody was trying to PvP and independent or just trying to constantly battle people outside of faction or a against faction wishes they'd get a bounty on their head pretty damned fast- Nebula Exchange? . It's a huge galaxy (I hope) not sure how big exactly but there are plenty of places to hide, places could be considered neutral between factions and there is nothing stopping faction truces for a short time (unless course you really don't want that kind of thing to happen). Aside from differentiating goals I can't see why it wouldn't happen from time to time, but as in any situation these things change, can make for interesting story telling while they last and stuff.

There is a difference in my mind between a KoS (Kill on sight) and say a faction enemy/rival. But of course these things will develop over time as we get a better idea of the lore and I think that'll just develop organically. For example the relationship between the IDF and the SEC- is that like "at war" or just pretty much opposite goals- what I mean I guess is say perhaps like the relationship that the USA had with Russia during the cold war. That sort of gives room for political changes (like official declaration or war) while still allowing for skirmishes and other wrangling for control of areas. Just my thoughts at least.

Much in the same way how everything isn't clear cut in real life. Like a SEC member secretly hiring a group from the Redshift Syndicate to assassinate someone etc. There is always potential to have all those interesting nuances. Same goes with the IDF- a militaristic faction that has strict rules and regulations and want to maintain balance and freedom? That sounds pretty horrific at least, I can imagine a lot of swept aside injustices they've carried out in the name of this so called freedom. Anyway that's all I'm going to write for now, not really much just sort of throwing random thoughts out there to see if it gives you lore guys any food for thought or whatever.

Also "Tetrahedron Physics" sounds great. I can see that being the place my first character (least my faction main roleplay character) would be.

Final passing question/thought faction relationships with each other? Neutral, Ambivalent? War? Open war? Cold war? It's important because essentially when you start the server that is the 'preset' you have before all the players come in and start well- telling a story essentially!

By the way it looks, it really seems like there is a cold war going on right now between the IDF and SEC. They have yet to have a really big reason to start attacking each other, but there is a lot of tension between them for a good amount of reasons. Skirmishes here and there perhaps, but not all out war I think...

    Heyyyyy,

So I was wondering if you guys needed any help, or were open for other people to help contribute to the development of the RP Lore, storyline, etc.. If you need examples, I could PM those to you.
