really? Huh...I never bothered to destroy those cause I figured it wasn't possible. I'll have to investigate this. Thanks for the info. =)

Not sure what I think about a huge line of ship upgrades. Features are awesome and all, don't get me wrong, but... We're seeing less and less reason to actually build on a home planet. =/

Yet I have to disagree. While yes this is in Beta and this criticism is a little harsh, but, that's what makes a game grow. If now one showed any criticism (not even a little bit), the game may turn out to be a game that no one likes and no one will buy it. Criticism is what makes a game develop and adjust more to the liking of the fans. That's what makes early access games so exciting. Its as if the community is building the game hand and hand with the Devs. Enough said.

I'd suggest reading a few pages back to get this straightened out. I would really rather not have to explain things again =P

Floran ships look ramshackle the design is neat I either believe space scrappers or weird way of space piracy

The Hyotl ship looks kinda...bland IMHO. :/ I miss the Koi!ship.

Yeah... That's exactly what I was thinking when I lit the fire on the topic (lol).

No one wants to cap the game... It's just a matter of "less fluff and more stuff". Because I'm seeing a lot of cool visuals and everything but somehow the gameplay feels a little empty. But why? because you start realizing that you have a lot of different itens but they don't have MEANINGFUL choices attached to them. For example: we have TONS of different blocks in the game but 90% of them are useless in gameplay aspect... They are made just to look cool but it does not have any difference between green, blue, red or normal sand (or apply any kind of block here). That's why I am proposing some thought about the ship upgrade because could impact the gameplay. We're going to upgrade the ship to get some REAL benefits in gameplay aspect or this is just another "skin"?

PS: Sorry if I write something wrong. English is not my main language and sometimes get a little messy.

I've actually been taking a break since the new ships were announced for this very reason, really eager for the implementation and continuing to play.

Aside from the obvious problem with meteorites smashinating your base -
Settling a home planet is nice and all, but as its beta doing so has the risk of losing all your stuff or losing your planet entirely, either due to world wipes and/or bugs requiring deleting planet files (happened to me about 4 times so far) - the whole thing ends up resulting in trying to cram everything on your ship in a limited space. My poor ship is now chests crammed in every available space filled with collected seeds, blocks, and things that aren't available everywhere not to mention all the outfits - which I've had to prioritise ^^

I'm really looking forward to the ship upgrade so I can sort out my shinies and carry on playing without worrying about losing stuff or spending hours reorganising due to accidental "omg no pickaxes in the house!!" on the small ship resulting in a quickly filled inventory and stuff all over the floor lol.

There seems to be a slight problem with the last ship, not sure if it has been mentioned but the gun on the top will hit the ship when it fires.

As I understand it, the planned progression system will involve repairing the ship, thus letting it travel to areas which it couldn't cope with earlier on. With that in mind I'd imagine that larger ships will also have some form of progressive gameplay attached, such as larger ships having larger fuel tanks and thus being able to travel farther in a single jump than smaller ones (at least this is what I hope happens, rather than the current fuel usage rules). Along with the extra space and, in time, fixed NPC spawners and quests, I think there's plenty of gameplay to be had involving the upgrades. It's a bit hard to tell what the devs have planned since all we can see is this skeleton right now, but the current content and scope would certainly allow for a huge amount of added gameplay opportunities before any more visual stuff is even added.

Way way too big! User mods have already convinced me ships should have no more than two or three rooms, not counting the teleporter and cockpit.

One could say "just don't make the ship that big" but why not? Assuming it isn't required to upgrade your ship to progress, and assuming the ship doesn't get other benefits such as additional / increased shiplocker storage and better fuel economy, it's still a linear path I have to take if I want to actually complete the game. =/

I'm a bit concerned as to the final layout- there isn't much in way of "actual rooms". For example, if I wanted to create both a private captain's room, as well as an extra dorm room for my staff, the rooms would all line up together (making things a bit difficult). I cold link up one of the cargo hold rooms... but anyway, my point is it is very difficult to design a good room layout with this design, where everything is connected (useful for walking around, not so much for privacy and corralling my staff).

I --THINK-- you will be able to invite/hire/bring NPCs to your ship, where they will set residence there and attend to certain tasks, therefore nullifying those worries about having a humongous and rather "empty" ship.
If nothing else, they will be quite useful in multiplayer.

What I would give to design ships. Too bad I'm a dirt poor artist and starbound has taken enough of my time. hahaha Great game though. Will be MUCH better in a year. mmmmm

LIKE RED WINE, EET JUST GETS BETTER WITH TIME.

I am really looking forward to these upgrades. For me, it almost seems unrelated how a few people seem to fear that those ship upgrades would make building structures on planets obsolete. After all, you can beam to your home planet without usage of fuel from anywhere in the universe. Yes, starting to build something and then getting everything destroyed by meteors sucks, but don't forget the other update that will probably be already released when the ship upgrades are done.

So until then, you will probably know about the hazards of the place you want to call your home, before you actually start building.
Only backside would be that you can't show it your friends if you build something in singleplayer and can't host a server, or in the worst case might permanently lose it if you build it in multiplayer and the server either shuts down forever or just resets its universe...

My only own critiques are the Avian pieces - not because they are part of the Floran ship, but because they didn't get a paintjob like, for example, the Human and Glitch parts. I think something like olive-green would look much better.
Also the upper canon in the last upgrade tier, like some others already said. I guess it would be pivotable to the sides of the ship, but its field of fire would still be limited, which wouldn't be very nice with only three canons in total (at least three visible ones). Of course it might be, that its field is actually almost unrestricted and it only looks that way from the side... but I'd still put it a bit higher for a less confusing look.

The last I want to say is not an actual critique, but a plea. I think it would be great to have ways of changing your type of spaceship, like getting a Hylotl one as a Human, without editing the ship file. So: Would it be possible to make some kind of ship shop later in the game, where you can buy those of the other races for some amount of pixels? This would also be a nice option for those Hylotl players that preferred the old ship design without wanting to make a mod for it (which after all would only change it for yourself in multiplayer).

I like the current Hylotl ship, the new one looks more like a shark and aggressive and... less beautiful than a koi fish? Oh well, that's the Hylotl's opinion, if they think sharks are the epitome of beauty then so be it :p
I can see it being "symbolically functional" though. You don't want your ship to flop over and go kaput, and the new ship looks more streamlined. If it were me I'd probably want a shark ship too! I will miss the Koi ship when it goes :(

While I do understand that the current Hylotl ship just won't work with the current upgrade system; the new one just doesn't 'feel' like a hylotl ship. I just looks like a blue, dull, metal ship; not something fitting of a race dedicated to beauty. The other main problem I have with it is all the hard, straight lines. I think the ship would look much better if it was more sleek and smooth. The Hylotl seem like a race that would believe function follows form, giving their ships interesting curves and little, unnecessary detailing. While beta is still beta, I hope this ship design changes soon.

That's the thing though... for a race is supposed to be the epitome of (inner) beauty, grace and peace, having a shark ship kinda of contradicts that...
