This is a game in which you can run around in any outfit (wedding viel with a strappy, revealing shirt and leather pants and functionless wings). Build a house out of anything you want (magma stone and mushroom blocks, together), and fill it with anything you want (only potted flowers and prison toilets). Hell, you can even use whatever weapons you want (including those of other races). Why does the lore suddenly matter with ships? I can understand for the initial upgrade (fixing it), but beyond that there's nothing that could contradict the lore about customizable ships.

Really love the new floran ships. They are more practical as opposed to creative.
Though I am a bit confused about the avian temple on top.

This is the part of the ship that was "salvaged" from an avian ship. Florans have a tend to have a "sstabb" way of negotions with new species.

    Yeah, I agree with this...

I mean, sure the game would need standard spaceship builds used for each race in order to give the races more depth. But wouldn't it be nice with additional customization options, I mean think about it... What if you want a bigger space for your farming inside the spaceship, of course you would want to expand that space at that point. Sure you could farm on some planet, but I think it would be nice with some spaceship customization, for those times when you want to expand some space, or maybe you want to totally change the design of the ship. The option to be able to do that I think would be really cool.

But you can do that. IN A MOD. The game was explicitly made easily modable to allow this and anything else they didn't include in the game. That's the point. Modding is easy. Installing the mods is easy. Hell you'll be able to download mods from whatever server you join later down the line. There is no reason to include something that clashes so much with the mechanics and direction of the creators game.

Being able to customize the spaceship through a mod is great and all, and yeah I do love it. But that is not the point. What I would like to see is customization that is part of the main gameplay, in such a way that you could either purchase parts, or detatch and sell parts of your ship and change them, etc. I want some fun customization options, that's what I'm talking about. If I was 100% satisfied with the FCS mod then I wouldn't even bother to mention this really...

Spaceship parts man, that's what I'm talking about... I'm glad that there are race specific spaceship designs, but I would like to be able to create my own spaceship within the game, through the main gameplay somehow.

The FCS mod is great by itself, but it's not entirely what I'm looking for.

Personally I prefer Mad Tulip's customizable ship and then there is also
Fight For Universe: Per Aspera Ad Astra
s building mechanism. Both are more esthetically pleasing than FCS

The only problems are that Avian bit and the vines, maybe instead put the vines on the inside only. The guy I'm qouting says it best...

The Avian ship part doesn't make the ship look cobbled together so much as it makes it look like interchangeable parts from others ships have been added in a lego-ish manner. I'd have the "temple" be more damaged when you first add it (like it was scavenged from a wreck), then next upgrade it gets repaired and repainted.

Yeah, I have used Mad Tulip's mod, the problem was that it's not compatible with multiplayer. Unless I am only playing with friends and we both have the mod, or the server has the mod or something like that. But yeah I like the idea of having spaceship parts to customize the ship with, and the diagonal glass and blocks. The problem is with multiplayer though, just didn't work out. I like to join random servers when I am bored.

I love the new Floran ship looks, very interesting stuff there. With the Hyotl one, I'm less certain. It has a lot of horizontal lines in it which I think might not really go well with the underwater style. Perhaps put a bit of a wave into those lighter lines (horizontal ones could remain "behind" the wavy ones) to make it look slightly more organic and sea-like? Admittedly we don't know a whole lot about the Hyotl yet, so the artists may have something else in mind for them, but for me it'd be a shame if things began to look too modern with that many clean, straight lines. Curves are lurverly.

Personally, I have always felt that the bigger our ships can be, the less likely players will be to settle planets and build little outposts and forts. Why would I need to go through the hassle of remembering a planet's coordinates because I planted all my food there when my ship is big enough to farm in? As convenient as it is I didn't think a game with a hunger meter was trying to make things essentially easy. I liked this game a lot more when it was about survival and the monsters were so dangerous that you had to watch your ass even at top tier. Now it seems like I'll just hollow out a planet for it's riches and slap it onto my ship and just fly around absorbing resources. Frankly, I'm a little sad to see the game go the way of linear upgrades when so many players are clearly enjoying a ship-building system as opposed to a ship upgrade system. I feel that if there were a bunch of ship-style blocks that you could use to build a ship people would use them. And to keep it balanced: make the production of ship blocks take a special crafting table and vast amounts of raw resources. For example, if it takes a player X amount of steel for a set of armor, then it should take at least 5 to 10 times that much to produce a few ship blocks. I mean ships are much bigger than people and need more materials. And it allows for that whole custom experience thing. And I hate to suggest more work but uh, what if you had to unlock an upgrade so you could build onto your ship, and then at periodic intervals you would have to upgrade again, to get more space or get access to new blocks or whatever. Other than that, give us the old Hylotl ship back please we really like it and it was your first design, that usually means it's the right one. And I'm cool with the Floran ships being so ragtag as far as mixed appearance, lets through some Glitch stuff in there just for good measure.

That ship looks very uninspiring... WAIT: Before I take some shots... or get hit by stones... or rotten apples... or bonslies... or plasma bolts... or some kind of energy leeching beam... or Oblivion Wings... or .50 Cal bullets... or EM-Accelerated bullets... where did I stop? Ahhhh uninspiring is not meant as an insult or meant in a bad way, it fits to the floran. They are savage, wild and use what they get and adapt whatever they can get hands on. Pretty good how it has structures from multiple ships on it. If the other ships fit that well to their species I am pretty much happy on that side. Though I will probaly still use a customized human ship since I want my humans completly evil (muahahaha).

Well done on the floran ship, now it fits to their kind and their unique attributes and skills in adaption and reverse engineering.

To be fair most people build over it with their own chosen background wall type so it's one of those things that few really bother with

It seems alot of people like the old Hylotl ship design. This gave me an idea. In character customization you can also choose a design for your ship. So for example for the Hylotl you could have the old fish design or this new one. Make alternatives for each race of course and probably more than 1 alternative.

So lets get off the serious discussion about whatever and lets talk about dat Hylotl ship. Who else besides me is using it in game? Its floor needed to be lowered 1 pixel, but aside from that I adjusted the color, and it looks damn sexy.
