Privacy for PERSONAL ships!

So I'll chop this up in to a nice nutshell.

I am someone who enjoys playing Multiplayer with friends, and friend's friends.

I am someone who likes to spawn NPC's on my ship, from the rarer "Doctor/Chef" to simple civilians/villagers and Guards.

I am someone who is a very forgiving person, but I also am someone capable of headaches and pains like anyone else.

I feel we should have 1 of 3 (of not all) things implemented at the earliest convenience, because it's a big problem for most players.

*1) - Allow players to set privacy/security on their ship. (Ex: Are other party members allowed to beam to it? / Maybe go as far as adding an 'allow' list.)

*2) - Allow players to set whether or not Friendly Fire with occur with NPCs within their ships. (Self Explanatory.)

*3) - Allow players to set whether others are able to look through/interact with their items or not. (Such as chests, fuel port, bank, etc etc.)

I'm sure other people could think of more. #2 is probably where my heart is set at predominantly, #3 following closely. I understand #1 may cause issues unless "Beam to" options were re-routed/further developed to where you could beam directly to a player's planet, rather than having to go through his/her ship. Otherwise it could be problematic...

That's it really, I've had my NPC's killed and my belongings stolen; it's inevitable, even if the people you're with are trusted/good company, you can't really guarantee one of -their- friends would be harmless, even if they say "Yeah he/she's cool!". (And don't get me started on meeting new people and putting your trust in them, that's equally as risky. Not to sound like someone who's anti-social, as I'm complaining about how easy it is to kill/steal, I've obviously given people the benefit of the doubt, and will continue to as that's just the kind of person I am. Things in Starbound ARE replaceable, thankfully...) So it's not really a matter of "Don't play with untrustworthy people" because saying "No I don't want you inviting YOUR friends to my server" comes off as very, very negative and makes you seem like an asshole; no different from denying play with someone you recently met/are getting along with.

Finally, I'd like to apologize if someone made a thread regarding this already, I just would like to find those whom sympathize with my situation as well as add to it. Hoping that the devs as well glance at this and perhaps take 'something' in to consideration to make immaturity of players less impactive on innocence.

Accidents happen, but the damages still have to be paid by somebody; it gets tiring having to replace the things I like just because I enjoy playing with other people.

This, totally. There should be a way to lock your chests and have all items other than instruments disabled on ships. The only person who should be able to do ANYTHING on a ship is the player that owns it. Maybe in the future there can be permission settings, or ship lockers that are actually lockable and expandable.

I love the idea of this. Furthermore, I think it would be great if the game notified you if someone tried to access your ship. For example, let's say Gruff Pumpkin is trying to beam up to my ship. I'd receive a notification saying, "Gruff Pumpkin is trying to beam to your ship." and then two buttons, both labeled "Grant access" or "Deny access" respectively.

And then, if they were trying to troll you by repeatedly beaming to your ship and in doing so send you millions of notifications, you could always deny access permanently.

Also, although this might be a little silly and wouldn't really fit in with the developing scheme, it'd be cool if you could have a little corner of the screen where you can see what's going on in your ship when someone enters (much like a "facecam" on YouTube).

    Good suggestion!

That's a much cleaner solution than what I had cooked up. I'm really hoping they do something relative to this! lol

Nice idea. Especially the idea to lock the contents of the ship for others (though allowing them to beam on the ship). This is necessary for players, who exchange items with others unknown players, found over internet. The ship is the best place to meet, but the other player (non-trusted) must have no possibility to steal the contents of seller's ship.

Yeah, it'll really help the trade protocol of the Starbound universe. Lots of people with lots of items who want to trade but are too scared to open their doors because it's so easy to just "whoopsie doodles, dropped a bomb and blew up all your chests, took all your items lulz sorry! K,BYE!!" ...it's quite painful.

Yes. Perhaps items can have a certain value on ships. Say, all items are locked from use by anyone other than the owner except for furniture and things like pianos and doors. How ever, have a new item: A trade-o-matic. It allows player A to put item(s) and pixels into one side, and player B to put item(s) and pixels into the other side, then they both hit trade

Good post! It's a pretty basic idea (not intending offense!) so it's most likely been suggested before, but if you don't find one of those previously-stated suggestions on the first or second page? I think making a new post is a good idea.

I think you make it quite clear why each option is really helpful, and it's also helpful to say "Look, the answer is not to reject all of society and play singleplayer" since, well, that's been argued before. Not successfully, mind you, but loudly.
