Prison planets

Hello,

On minecraft when someone stole or did some minor griefing, we would put the player in jail. After a while (measured in time online) the player would be released. We thought this was better than outright banning everyone for a little misstep.

I haven't read anything about the ability to restrict players temporarily to a certain planet, or to limit their freedom if they misbehave. That's why I'm posting this in the suggestion forum.

I would love the ability (as admin/moderator) to limit the freedom of people in two cases:
- On a greylisted server you'd want to know new people play nice with others. (depending on what the server is about, I guess)
- Sometimes people need to be put in time-out. I'm sad to say that the more popular minecraft became with younger people, the more time-outs were needed.

I'm still hoping the maturity of the players will keep us from needing features like this, but previous experiences tell me otherwise.

Yeah, being able to have jails would be cool.

I can just imagine now how I would have a swimming pool inside the jail with dangerous aquatic creatures swimming around in it to prevent the prisoners from escaping. There would be a way to escape but you would have to know what you are doing. Like a little puzzle jail, although once one prisoner gets out the whole thing would go into lockdown, all ways of escaping would be blocked and so they would die and respawn inside the jail.

Ah... So many fun things you could do with jails in the game.

It would fit in with home planets, a planet that you are responsible for. So they could run away to another planet if they wanted to, but you would be able to capture the players and throw them in jail. Instead of something like /put (playername) injail, you would have to capture them... I think that would be fun.

OR - You could type /put (player_name) injail and have actual NPC's start searching for the players on your home planet and literally try to capture them and put them into your jail. Wow, now that would be cool.

 

Agreed, they can be a welcome addition to role playing as well.

 

A nice idea I think could work well with Starbound. The prisoners could be used for a variety of things including a vauable workforce, performing intensive and dangerous tasks e.g mining, deep space drilling, capturing creatures, building, attacking etc...

And yeah Minecraft became really annoying for me when 6 year olds are now the majority of the community.

 

Reasons I stopped playing Minecraft.

Anyway, on this note: I personally think it would be pretty wise on the dev team's part to implement this into the game.
If anything, it would ease the punishment factor on players so as to not turn them off from the multiplayer community like people seem to be in other games.

Feeling dejected isn't any good.

Sounds like a great idea, reminds me of Banland in RS lol.

 

I would have a prison planet with race-themed areas. So if you're a Glitch you're placed in a dungeon.
As well as this, I would make it full of friendly explanations of the rules and a note from the moderator explaining what they did wrong and how long they're stuck there.

Concerning something like chat if that's in the game (Especially voice chat) I don't know if it would be really wise to have it enabled in the prison planet between just the prisoners. Sounds like something you shouldn't take away (Not like they can harass anyone but each other...) but I imagine every time that the immature ones will sit there and just gradually help each other get frustrated about the staff or the game. Much like in real prisons.

When i read post i thought maybe you were talking about a Prison Planet full of NPCs ... Could have cell blocks or big open areas with criminals.. no real wild life. It would probably be a mid to late game planet . As you dug down toward the core there would be worse & worse criminal areas from all different races.. Could even make a prison warden as a world boss. Private servers could probably even use that planet as a prison for rule enforcement. That way the detainee could still have a little bit of fun while in jail, this is a game after all

 

This sounds like a great way to punish for minor offenses. Heck, on a private server I'd probably try to land myself in there for some fun breaking out times. You could have like a prison riot with your fellow prisoners who are players or NPCs. You can have guards attempt to tame it, and release monsters and maybe bring in some Space Police of Some Sort. Of course however, you can choose if you actually want the players to escape or not. Or just spam them with monsters and Intergalactic Space Police . Oh and maybe a currency like Cigarettes.

 

I remember that movie. Good stuff, especially the warp scenes : D

 

How about prisons that are also like the ones in Shivering Isles? So you can either wait your time or try to fight your way out of a dungeon linked to your cell?

I hate those non-premium brats flooding the chat begging for ranks.
Jail planets would be cool, I can put the cells on top of a volcano.

 

I could be wrong, but weren't prisons like that in vanilla oblivion also?

 

You could send someone to a prison planet and then they would have to battle for freedom
