Yeah, I mean, I think we largely have the same views here. I have put around 75 hours into Terraria and God knows how much into Minecraft, and I got both of those games for ten bucks.

I'd gladly pay whatever price they ask and gift it to friends to bring them in (as I've done with Terraria). However, I'm just saying what the average consumer sees when they look at the price. I know the overwhelming majority here (except for a few that have said "I'll pirate it if it's over 15 bucks" which is silly) are willing to pay whatever it takes, but the opinions will change quickly after the game launches and the masses start flooding these forums. I saw it with Terraria, and oh man did we see it with Minecraft. Those forums are largely a cesspool now.

I'm with you, I wish the precedent for low indie game pricing was never set. I wish a game could stand on its own merits. Unfortunately, people have the perception that indie games are cheap and will be throwaway games after a couple hours (because so many are). Thus, the developers of games like Starbound have to charge less and suffer for it.

Though, saying that, if the game lives up to its promises, I doubt the devs will be hurting for money :p

Games do take a lot of time and money to produce. Most AAA titles will sell for £40/$60 which is a little inflated but they usually do cost most to make than your common indie.

As for the actual topic this is on, the price of Starbound, I would gladly pay up to £20 although the lower the price the better, it means I would have some spare cash to buy a friend a copy too. £10 would be ideal... £5-7 just seems too little, I would feel guilty paying so little .

I've never seen this problem, do you mean Euro's, not pounds? A somewhat late reply, but I'm sure you won't mind ;D

To those who said they will pirate it if its over 15. I believe htey will pirate it anyway cuz they dont give a shit. Lol... Sad but true. I dont know anyone who would truely, honestly pay for a game that they pirated even if it were 5 bucks. (I know many people who pirated the games that showed up for the Humble Bundle for example...)

Yeah, I dislike the perception about indie games. Which is why I have challenged it here. Maybe some people will read it and go 'huh, neat' or something. At least get people thinking ;). Thankies for the discussion Beenie!

I think they could actually get more if it was cheaper.
Cheaper means more people will buy it and that will eventually add up enough to give them more than if it cost 60 bucks and not as many people bought it.

Not what I was talking about spanish master chief. I agree they could get more people with it being cheaper. Definately :>

The most I'd probably pay for the game is $15. I don't have a whole lot of free time, and I'd rather spend my time doing something productive. So if it's $15, great. I'll buy it, play it like once and then really play it a few years later when I see the icon on my desktop and have long forgotten what the game is. Otherwise I'll probably wait and pick it up on a Steam sale. I'll definitely keep an eye on it until I have it, though.

I have way too much time on my hands , so I can and plan to put lots of hours into this, maybe even more than Terraria(419). So I'll gladly pay whatever price they put.

I don't get why people feel guilty paying a low price if that is what is offered. Honestly, Terraria never sold for more than $10, and it made hundreds of thousands of dollars...that is how pricing works. Just because the mainstream game market gouges you $50-$60 for a game doesn't mean that is what a game should cost. What I love about the indie game scene is that I can pick up great games for $10 or less. I never buy games for more than $25 so I seldom play the current big games, which I am fine with.

  13. I would gladly pay lots of money for it, but I think that between $15-30 would probably be the best plan for this game.
Usualy only big buisness games can get away with anything higher.

My hope is somewhere from 10-20ish. As I will soon be a starving college student, I can't exactly sink a load of cash into games or stuff, especially when I could use it for food and stuff. Here's hoping.
