Previous release date delays

Personally, i think tiy should just stop posting altogether since he is so awful at it.
I've never seen an indie dev so intent on ruining his companies PR singlehandedly. Lol.

exactly so how long should all us people who prepaid wait then? the rage isnt from people who havent bought the game its the people whgo have been following it since terraria was supposdly not getting any more updates, bought it and were there for at least 3 estimated releases. how long should we wait for THE BETA! you know all the people asking for the goddamn incomplete game!

 

Care to clarify little on that? What exactly is so awful about what he said?

 

The only ones who can answer that question is yourselves. It's a matter of how long you are willing to wait.

I "liked" this post. Then I wrote the following.

I see nothing myopic, literal, or nitpicking about what I wrote.

 

I agree. Starbound does have incredible potential which is why people are so emotional about any delays in the game.



My opinion for what it's worth, it might make sense to have an experienced project manager or additional coders on board to help guide the further development of the game. It would be disastrous at this point if people began demanding refunds en masse. In fact that should probably be a priority at this point, to prevent the community withdrawing it's financial support.

Finally just one last opinionated observation. I don't think it helps when people encourage the developers to take too much time. Stating that it's ok if the game takes years to be released is going to have negative repercussions if that actually happens. If Starbound actually takes too many months to reach fruition many of the initial backers will demand refunds and other games made in a very similar fashion will steal whatever innovation and unique aspects Starbound hopes to bring to the table.

In the end though, I do have some compassion for the Chucklefish team. They just wanted to make a good game, but unfortunately many mistakes have been made along the way (like all humans make). For what it's worth, GodSpeed to Tiy and the team.

Sorry dude, I misread who wrote what. I was in favor of your initial post. I thought Darklight's response was fairly annoying.

I demand rewording of the part about ideas and innovation. As soon as you reveal the idea, you set it free to float in minds. At this point, noone can steal it sinse you already willingly gave it to them. All they can do is implement it and/or iterate upon it. You can steal code, art style and the like, but not an idea.
That's the way Starbound did with Terraria, Terraria with Minecraft and Minecraft with Infiniminer, and there's probably even more levels to that.

I really do hope that the Beta will make it's 2013 deadline. We all knew, well most of us anyways, the official game wasn't gonna make it until mid next year or so, none of what Tiy said is anything to be alarmed about.

 

Remember when the beta was going to come out this year 'no matter what'? Now it's probably, that implies that it might not. Plus, going "At least we're better than cod, those guys are squares," is weak and uncalled for. And saying "Don't worry, long dev time is fine (Don't talk about DnF)" makes people immediately conclude that this game is gonna DnF all over the place.
