IMO games are art but not just because they evoke emotion but also because I consider gameplay itself as art. Hell, if "art" nowadays can refer to something that looks like some pretentious douche emptied their stomach on a canvas, then perhaps the term doesn't deserve legitimacy from the hard work and intelligence that goes into some video games. Just my $0.02

Everyone? I didn't know the whole bloody world was invited to I49. Please use your broad-stroke fallacies more. They are quite fascinating.

No, he doesn't say that. The actual quote is:

The very first thing I want to say, to avoid any confusion, is that we’re still estimating the beta this year.

ESTIMATING. This is hugely different from the "no matter what" that was thrown around at I49 and all the dev response threads afterwards. And then in the very same post, he goes on to say:

All this said, whilst I won’t apologise for delaying the game a couple of times, we have made mistakes along the way. The most obvious of which was to give out estimated release dates on a project that’s aiming so high and I think it’s unlikely we’ll ever do that again.

So it was a mistake to give release date estimates because we're terrible at it and we're probably never going to do it again, but we're still estimating that it'll be within the next 2 and a half months.

Somebody please explain to me why I should have any kind of faith in that estimate?

If you where to check out the FAQ page you would see this, "Good question! We’re notoriously bad at estimating release dates, but we’re committed to putting out a beta release in 2013." If you don't beleive me here is the link to the FAQ. http://playstarbound.com/faq/

I hope not Pringlesniffer. I sure won't be among them, but It seems to me after reading around the forums if they have to delay the beta again past the end of the year they may well end up losing a chunk of their preorder support. Looking forward to playing all the great stuff that is already there. Delays are inevitable with most any project worth doing. Thanks to Tiy for taking the time to make this post. You guys are doing great and I can't wait to play your finest creation to date :).

It was said above and I just wanted to repeat it as my agreement. Myself and several around don't mind a few bugs and glitches to work out though. Make it how you want it but don't worry about perfection you have a huge list of people to help sort the bugs out. It seems to me most of us would rather get to play something this year even if it isn't quite as complete as planned. Anyway hope I don't offend anyone just hate hearing people say stuff like "Sounds like they're going to delay until some completely guessed time" with the level of honesty coming from Tiy if he believed that to be the case he would not have wasted his time posting a blog to the contrary. The way I read it sounds like they are not where they would like to be at in terms of completion but are still planning to meet the updated release of the beta.

Anyway change what you need to guys to make what you want but please I wanna play SO bad :). Lol HURRY!!!!

It's not the first time you attack people like this. He clearly meant "everyone who were on i49", not just plain everyone. Do try to act more reasonable.

You are both mixing up the full release.. which was sworn to be 2013 nomatter what and then delayed to 2014.. with beta.

However with the delays and this close to the deadline for betas year long estimate.. and Tiy giving a long rambling post about why delays are okay it is easy to see why people are coming to this conclusion.

As I said earlier, no surprise to most of us.

My post was about beta, not the full release. I posted in response as to show him/her why they should not, "give up hope" about beta being released this year.

Honestly, I wasn't expecting a myopic, literal, nitpicking interpretation of what I wrote. Regardless of the exact words I used, the intent was "the people paying for the developer's rent and food aren't getting to play the game, while people that aren't paying the developers anything are". I do hope that makes it clearer. If not, I give up.

How many delays have been aside from the delay in the full release?

I've read the FAQ. And the developer response thread. And I watched the I49 Q&A session with the devs where they said that beta was coming out in 2013 NO MATTER WHAT.

I didn't say that I've given up hope that the beta will be out this year, because it still might. What I'm saying is that I don't see the wisdom in trusting their estimate when they continually tell us how bad they are at estimating release dates, have yet to succeed at estimating a release date, and now have their lead developer saying that release estimates on this kind of project are basically impossible and Chucklefish almost certainly isn't going to attempt them in the future even though he does exactly that at the very beginning of the post.

In the end there is nothing we can do about it and all we can do is wait.

People are fickle, there is only so much waiting a person is willing to do before they lose interest, refund their money, and find another company worth putting their money towards.

Then I should consider myself lucky that I am not people. Raging about something you have no control over won't help matters at all. If someone can't wait then they can just pay extra when the full release eventually comes out. Now I know that there are those who pre-paid more then $15 and that's understandable but if I where them it would only make me wait more. I'd want to see the finished form that my money gave birth to.

    Starbound surely is an exception.

I pre-purchased the game for $75 when they were first offered, given the amount of stuff they have added, or at least were kind enough to share. I can say atleast for me that's going to be worth every penny. That's not including the updates/fixes that are to follow the game post release.

And some people payed more than $15 to actually get a buggy beta for bug finding, not a dominantly polished pre-release. :p
