Yep. Tiy made the post solely to upset Feyora. Wrap it up guys, mystery solved.

I feel like you've completely misunderstood the point he was making.

He isn't implying this was made for him, but that this post would have been a good idea directly after i49 where they pushed the full release back to 2014.

Developers said they will give it to us in 2013, we still have time.

That's exactly what I was implying yeah! Thanks for noticing <3 and paraphrasing so accurately as well.

now that's why I love you guys, and will be your biggest fan for ever (unless you sell your soul to EA or something). I pre ordered the game long time ago and don't regret a minute of time i am waiting.

Don't regret it. Starbound is an amazing game and most people who will get their money back because of the release date not being according to plan will probably buy it again when it is in beta.

About Tiy's post, I read all of it thinking; 'is there anything here I would be able to disagree on' and I literally could not agree to somethimg more than I did to that post. Amen.

I'm not certain what point you're making or if it's just an observation so I hope I'm responding to your intent. For a game like Skyrim, the crafting isn't nearly as integral to their gameplay mechanic as it is for a game like Minecraft/Terraria/Starbound. You could go the entire game in any of the Elder Scrolls titles without ever touching the crafting/item creation mechanics. Not so for this game/style of game. And while I understand my opinion isn't universal, I'm glad they've taken the time to put more in the game.

I stopped playing Terraria when I got to end game and got bored. There wasn't anything new and the options for making interesting constructions in game were limited, so it didn't have the replayability of Minecraft, for example. Chucklefish seems to be loading a ton of things into the game that can help keep it interesting long after all of the base mechanics have been explored.

Remember how there were something like 10,000 lines of dialog in Halo 2? I was re-playing the game with my Girlfriend and an NPC said something to me I'd never heard before in all the hours I'd played the campaign over and over with my kids. That little thing sparked new life into the game. Just the idea that there were still things to discover made the game feel more alive and I really appreciated the effort that was put into it.

I believe that's the kind of effort that Chucklefish is putting into this game and I'm willing to give them the time they need to do it. We know they're not just sitting on their hands. It's in their own interest to release the game ASAP and move on to other things that will generate revenue for them. They reason they don't is not for them. It's not because they're not meeting their development deadlines. We can debate about scope creep but Chucklefish is taking their time because they're trying to craft something special. Tiy and crew have restated this over and over again. I think as a community we can afford to give them that time.

yep yep, that's how I'm seeing it too.

I think a lot of us would be happy with some sort of beta, or even special demo thingy, being out in 2013. I don't know that we deserve such a thing really but it'd be nice and it's definitely what I expected was going to happen. I think unfortunately games like minecraft have redefined what beta means in a lot of ways, so a lot of people have strange expectations now.

But yeah, I'm not sure what exactly is going on here. I'm with the "There's still time, hopefully we'll have something soon" crowd.

View me as a kiss ass. I don't care. You're just showing off your continued arrogance. You're not critiquing. That would require some form of helpful commentary. Instead you seem to be concerned with being an arrogant know-it-all. And what you deem as unimportant must be unimportant for everyone. Now, that's could have been something to comment on without being a complete knobgobbler, but you've chosen to go a different direction.

Since people are complaining that Tiy was comparing Chucklefish to AAA titles and mainstream companies, let's look at indie/fan-funded games.

First off, Double Fine's Kickstarter for their adventure game: Broken Age

That game (or at least the beta) was set to be released this month, of LAST YEAR. Their initial money constraints was a goal of $400,000 and a development deadline of 7 months. They managed to get $3.3 million, and even THEN that wasn't enough to support the initial (note i said initial) process of making the game. They had to scrap a ton of what they already made, just so that they stayed under budget while still making a game that their fans deserve. All of this happened as Tim Schafer explained their money and development situation in December 2012 in roughly the same manner as Tiy is telling us about development delays.

    Another game! Terraria!

This one starts roughly around the time that the Xbox version was announced. Would the PC get the new content, too? Why should development on the Xbox be more valued than the PC? The pc fans were not too happy about this, and there was a significant rift in the fandom for a few months. Then slowly, out of a hiatus that devastated Terraria players everywhere, Redigit came back to develop 1.2, and that announcement was back in January of this year (his activities on twitter indicated he was on hiatus for at least a full year before the speculation of making 1.2). More importantly! Redigit made the mistake that Chucklefish wanted to avoid; continuously postponing a deadline. People were getting frustrated that he was promising these deadlines and then continuously moving it back months before the official release. That's what Chucklefish is trying to avoid; getting closer and closer to an estimated release date and having to continuously postpone it due to complications.

Which comes to the final game, Cube World.

This is what happens when a developer is pressured to please the public by sending out a release. Wol_lay was a developer that wanted his game to go his own way, at his own pace, and Cube World has been in development since his first blog post about it in June 2011. But the pressure of popular demand made him release an alpha. There were a lot of bugs, not a lot of content was introduced, and yet people still wanted to play. Then the public started to cry out suggestions, praises, concerns, criticisms, even hate messages. Then everything stopped; there were no further development posts, no patches, nothing. Fortunately Wol_lay's hiatus has been relieved, somewhat; he is alive and well and has posted a message on this twitter two days ago, yet that long hiatus had many fear that he had abandoned the project all together, because he wasn't posting monthly/regular updates on his blog, on his twitter, or on facebook.

These examples are here to support Tiyuri's post about game delays, and why I think it's safe that his own opinion and the policies of Chucklefish are made the way they are. These examples are falling roughly within the last year or two, so this is not an isolated problem amongst indie developers. His application of Miyamoto's quote is relative to any and all development processes, but it is up to the developers to work their hardest for the game they love, sometimes unavoidably making a small percent of fans angry in the process. They regret posting an early ETA, and I respect their decision to postpone any further ETAs because of it.

I'm with you in that, minecraft simply made available the alpha earlier and someway or another people started leaving it because they didn't have much fun than what they believed they were going to have, still it had it's good points but people didn't fully played minecraft until it started in beta got myself the minecraft in ios and I'm sure you all know it's still in alpha "no offense" and the fun got lost like two weeks later; I think what the team of starbound it's doing is correct in it's own way. Yeah we still are anxious for it to come out but more the reason everybody is anxious to see it released and starbound gets a lot of good comments just of mere assumption, no one can say bad comments about a game they haven't played, but everyone can say good comments because we only see the attractive of the game, we don't see bugs or raging glitches in the photos, no, we only see improvement and when the beta comes out I'm sure we will see and discover all the things of the updates and learn to like the game and when we see some glitch or bug think of it what exactly is: A BETA.

Everyone needs to chill out and do other things. Sleep, go out, hang with friends. Forget about this game if you have too, and when you get the email about a release you'll be happy.

I did provide helpful commentary, i said, they should release a simple "alpha" version of it to their backers. Containing 1 race, 1 tier, 1 basic planet.

As for arrogant know-it-all, i've been called ignorant and a liar, both times which i've defended myself with evidence from people making wild accusations who thought they were calling a bluff, and since ive defended myself and you've run out of things to say, you've resorted to personal attacks.

I've shown im a developer and youre a nothing. My comments on development offically over-rank you, how's that for an arrogant know-it-all? Go ahead, you got nothing else to add, apart from personal attacks.

You've been shown to be wrong, end it, leave it, you've lost.

The point I've made - there was no need to put all the food recipes in, nor all the item descriptions in. Remember, at the time this was done, humanoid NPCs were lacking most of their AI, there was no item tech as well. I understand that most of the team are artists and they ain't gonna code AI or anything, and someone's gotta do descriptions in, but still, looking at update history it almost looks like they working on the flavour mechanics first and only then on core features, which makes no sense to me.

Awesome edit job I did.. anyway yeah, I actually had wondered about a lot of this stuff. Thanks for posting this. I'm not sure about its persuasive merits but it still answers a lot of questions I've had. I got kind of confused about Cube World after reading a lot of people complain like it had been canceled or something. The Terraria thing was interesting too as I had quietly given up on even seeing the update this year and then suddenly its out and has a crazy amount of new content. I was curious was was going on there on the inside. My younger sister tells me Terraria got retired so I just assumed it was done with.
