Well, I mean, when release was estimated 2012 and there was, like, ten days until New Year, we kinda sorta had a closer knowledge. Sort of a kind, ykwim.

that's not a very friendly quote. And honestly, people who are not "usual suspects" (whatever that means) are actually criticizing either the posting of this thread, its content or the whole beta/launching/delay issue. I'm not a "usual suspect" and it's pretty lame to be thrown into that stereotype. I've expressed my opinion in this thread and I am totally okay with ppl who are cheerleading the dev team. But Tiy's post is a defensive post/position and the shear fact that he posted that out of the blue is a consequence of growing concerns/criticism/skeptcism regarding the release dates, recurrent delays and so forth. Stereotyping goes both ways, and it's an equally low level comment.

It's based on the opening cutscene of Deus Ex. The original is here, and the quote I was referencing is at around 0:21.

And I've been waiting for this moment for all my life, oh Lord
Can you feel it coming in the air tonight, oh Lord, oh Lord

lol jokes i just thought this would fit appropriately

I believe that you should take as much time as possible to make this the best possible game you can because the longer it takes the better it will become

It's cool. I won't judge your actions, since I have seen molly refund a $500 purchase without batting an eye. (They're still swimming in money to the tune of $2 million dollars.)

I don't believe it's that bad of a time waster as you might be lead to think. The only problem I see with it is that it's mostly meaningless, things that matter are only 0-20% and 100%. Also, these have different workload weights altogether.
Long story short - I don't see it as a roadmap, just a neat tool with some near-meaningless digits.

I've been following this game for a little under two years now, I signed up on the forums maybe a year ago? Either way, the thing that has kept me extremely pumped for this game is the frequent updates, and as long as I continue to receive updates on development or things going on around Chucklefish, I will continue to patiently wait for beta, no matter how long it takes.

This is not true. At a point, additions to the game become so little in the whole scheme that they can't be considered an improvement.

First they include the b-word in an update (which did exactly as expected, drew the swarms back to the forums). And then this. As thoughtful and well written as it is, it's terrible to bring it up. It is completely understandable the rise of total impatience among the crowd. Someone cried Beta, and then "it's totally alright for us to not release on time, because we are indie-developers".

People's interest in the forum and game was starting to wane, yes. Because reading a daily update that just showed us that we now have dirt that looks like a valley in a very polished way makes it look more like you're showing us all the things we can't experience for ourselves yet as a teaser. I'll admit, I even stopped reading the daily updates, it just became boring. But my ears were perked when I heard Beta. And now this? I can understand that it's not necessarily saying anything about the release, but this was just a bad decision. Because there is no way that you can justify another delay using this argument, and you've raised a lot of hell.

And before anyone starts calling me self-entitled or impatient. I'm sorry, if I payed for anything 7-8 months ago, and still didn't have at least a part of what I ordered, I'd be getting my money back. I've been waiting patiently I feel for a long time. If beta doesn't release by the end of this year, I will be very displeased. Being said, I hope that the finished game is as great as all the hype was when I pre-ordered.

I wish we could play the alpha and beta and so on. not only does it allow fans to play and feel the progression of the game, but it will influence more people to buy it and help out. This is why most kickstarters have early access; it helps the consumer and developer. early access can help on testing bugs learning what the community wants and overall pleasing everybody. i can see why you want to wait for a beta release but when a game good enough people wont stop to play a broken game. Examples: cube world, minecraft, a hat in time, cobalt and paranautical activity
no matter what happens this is my most anticipate game right now and im glad your progressing

WE CAN REBUILD HIM. WE HAVE THE TECHNOLOGY. (Yeah I know that's not Deus Ex but it's the same premise)

Edit: Just to save double posting, I hope they introduce the rest of the lore before the beta release...

Not for me. I would much rather wait for beta to come out when Tiy's ready for it. I bought and played Minecraft during early alpha and by the time Minecraft was fully release I was already bored with it. The only way I would ever play Minecraft again is with mods. I'd like to play Starbound for a long time after it's full release, preferably without any mods.

I haven't waited nearly as long as people like you and I really feel a lot of sympathy for everyone who's waited for the game so long. That has to mean something, and if anything, the dev team also should be sensible and not get defensive or hide behind the same "arguments" over and over again. I would actually like to see an update that would try to fix this issue, like "we allocated some money to this problem and we will add more team members" or something, anything really.

Yes games that take their time are usually the best but beta is to give people a taste of the game to help develop it to help the devs test out bugs on a larger scale to get feedback from the community anyway i think the games gonna be awesome cant wait for beta
p.s dont mention duke nukem brings back bad memorys
