I would rather have a delayed great game then a rushed sort of ok game.

Maybe you missed the part where you said ''promised'', seeing as I don't see that word anywhere on the store page.

Indeed, managing community information is not what I call a "waste of time", more of a priority. And no complaints on this side, he does it well.

    PS_ghost Hey, You!

This is essentially why so many of us are so upset

From the blog posts it's obvious that the game is in completely playable mid/late beta stage

Almost all the updates are about content being created, not engine or tools work being done

If they want to fix game-breaking bugs as one user said, then they need to distribute the client to as many people as possible. You cannot adequately test software with a handful of testers on a handful of machines. You need THOUSANDS of different configurations.

At this point, by delaying the beta, they are causing the game an even greater delay in the end. Why can't they just give it to us when it's obviously playable?

    hey chucklefishs out there.

you are so welcome from my side to take exactly the time you need to make the game YOU wanted to do!

your message supports my hopes for an unforgettable game including depth, real good content and a remarkable story.

but I am a little bit worried. today I read that quests are partly build randomize styled. oh no...please dont do such a crap. delay your game one year if you may. but please use this time to think deeply about possibilities to avoid randomized generated dialouge and quest-mechanism. your so far fantastic world would be a dull and meaningless sandbox for real adventurers and rpg-lovers.

mother, I am so demanding, I know ;o)

yes, deadlines are a good thing,.... But Its a game. If its not ready to be played than there is nothing to do but push back the release date. Its not like they have anything to gain from holding it from us.

I absolutely love these self-righteous crybaby tantrum threads. Every time I read a post about some over entitled, sissy, no-life teen storming off in a huff over a $15.00 game my day gets a little brighter. Every over entitled broken heart makes me smile. Thanks internet.

While I will agree with you that a rushed game is always bad, I disagree on the second point. There can be times where a game developer delays a game so much that when it comes out, there is a ton of hype built around it and fans are severely disappointed. Games don't have to be absolutely perfect, and if you try to get them to be, then you're just going to end up with a long wait time and disappointed fans.

I've only read about half this thread, but so far it's been pretty amusing.
I think what the home troop of fanboys are missing is that Chucklefish is supposed to be a business, and there is inherent entitlement when you pay your hard-earned money for a product or, indeed, a promised deadline.
You can argue semantics all you want, but while at the end of the day what Tiy typed up may be well-written and thought out, it will never address the actual issue, and a few fanboys (plus the obligatory ass-kisser) aren't going to change that fact.

Now that I'm past that, I love Starbound and hope to see it on my desktop soon, finished or not.
I just hope for their sakes it actually arrives this year, or those preorder numbers will drop like they were never there to begin with.

Keep up the pace, Chucklefish, and honestly good luck.

understandable but confusing wall of text. your post implies that once a game is released, that's the end of it. is it not possible to update it when it's released? (in beta, of course)

I've always thought it was better when companies release the beta, then touch up the game with the help of the beta testers.

    But I want BETA!

    PS_ghost Hey, You!

I think the community effectively needs to come together right now and hammer home the fact that the game was PROMISED and language was used saying the game WILL come out in 2013. I would like a more involved statement from Tiy as to why this is now an "estimate"

And I don't want an explanation or excuses. I want to be told that yes, the beta will be out in 2013, regardless of what state it is in, because that is what was promised.

If it is not- I believe the crime is called is "theft by deception".

Hardly. That's just a statement telling you that if you choose to pre-order, you could be speeding up the development process. And another statement that claims that the game will release in 2013.

Damnit, I even said I'd leave this thread. Guess not.

But seriously, guys. Keep calm and keep waiting for Starbound beta.

Thank you Tiy, it must be hard being pushed and pressured to satisfy customers with a quick release date but also a good game. I appreciate you discussing this.

Rising tensions and community splitting are the inevitable part of the process, sadly. Look at all the chaos these delays, inevitables or not, have caused :/
