Previous release date delays

Estimated. ESTIMATED. Does the doctor get sued when the baby gets delivered one day late?

 

Arguing for the sake of arguing. Which in the end only serve to derail this thread anyway. Sad that all of Tiy's threads seem to reach this conclusion because of a noisy few who won't relent

Reading this thread is actually pretty interesting. I mean, yes, I'm annoyed that it's not out yet because this and Wildstar are the games I'm most looking forward to for 2014. At the same time, I've been in their shoes a bit too often as an IT professional so I empathize ENTIRELY. As a manager I have to deal with date slippage.

I actually think these daily updates actually help a lot - because we get to see the process, and the process can be pretty crazy. It's annoying it's not out, but at least we have insight into what's going on. The negative reactions here are not as negative as they'd be otherwise. That's a pretty good takeaway - there's even a sort-of-timeline!

I'd suggest those who put in cash (as I did) remember that we're not just buying something - we're helping out. We're part of the team in our own way. Sure we're wanting the product, but let's also be supportive - support isn't just cash. Anyone can whip out $15.

I'd also suggest however that the devs may want to release things as soon as they're able, even if they're very flawed, because we've got a legion of kick-butt beta testers ready to go here.

(Come to think of it, devs, if you're reading this? Invest in a Zendesk subscription. It'd make beta go a lot smoother).

Waiting is something we do our entire adult lives. We wait for the bus, wait in traffic, wait for late friends, wait for our food, wait wait wait wait wait.

My advice to anyone who hates waiting. Always bring a book. In that way if you have to wait hours, days, months you will always have something you can do. Such as reading a good book. In this way the waiting isn't as long, the nights don't stretch on, and you don't find yourself pawing at your computer screen waiting for something good to finally come out.

Not everything will go our ways sadly. Some games I waited for for a long time (a game like Firefall) only to have it turn into something I now hate. Some games I waited for years to turn into something I loved. I'm willing to wait, but I understand why it would piss off other people.

I've pre ordered a while ago and i'm in no rush for the game to be released, i understand the reasons they gave but i am a bit sad that they chose to go that route. I've always loved Alpha and Beta's, when participating you had a chance to influence how the game was developed to a much greater extent than you normally could after a game has been released. And i appreciate that they did so on the forums, having people contribute and get involved in development, but it's just not the same as actually getting your hands dirty in the game and seeing how the changes being suggested change different aspects of your playstyle and interactions in the game.

As to when they are estimating a beta release, when looking at the pre order page it says "We'll have a beta available this year" and looking at the FAQ page it also says "Your first chance to play Starbound will be when the beta launches later this year" so i guess they need to change that since it will be false if they don't release the beta this year.

 

Take all the time you need! (but alphas/betas never hurt)

You're doing much better than Wollay of Cube World, Tiy. I can say that, at least. That man is so introverted it takes him months just to gather his nerve and speak to the community, nevermind announce game updates, and he's currently being picked apart by his former fans AND a couple gaming sites for his lack of business sense. You, however, have made promises and are clearly keeping them, or apologizing when you can't. I'm getting the feeling we won't see the beta til January, December if we're lucky. But it'll be worth it. Don't rush. Just create.

The word "estimate" wasn't used until today. When I gave them my money it was a promise, calling it an estimation is backpedaling and, for obvious reasons, concerning.

 

But the doctor is in charge of delivering it. Failure to do so can lead to being sued of manfuckingslauther.
