    That would be swell.

I didn't see anyone pick up on the fact that each "Donor" box is colored differently, starting from white for the penguin up through green, blue, and purple. Would it be crazy to link this to the relatively traditional system for rating items in games based on the color of the text associated with them? By this, I mean White=Common, Green=Uncommon, Blue=Rare, and Purple=Epic. Yes, WoW is the first thing that pops into my mind, though this seems possible, leading me to believe there IS some sort of Pre-order tier system. EDIT: I was right for once ^_^ Zoidberg isn't a complete failure.

In a world where they didn't have any more expensive packages at all and all that was available was the base game, you'd pay, say, $20 for 100% of the game. This iteration of you would, I assume, be completely content with this purchase. That acknowledged, there is no reason that you couldn't be just as happy with the same 100% in a world where there were more expensive packages.
While I understand the covetous feelings this might bring, to imply that other people should not have the opportunity simply because you don't want it is hardly a fair argument, especially when stood on the legs of the fact that you're still getting the same game. Not to imply that I do (or do not) think that there should be exclusive bonuses.

I don't think throwing the term micro-transactions around is fair either. It has been stated that micro-transactions will not be a part of this game, and that any pre-order or more expensive packages will not include exclusive stats or enhancements. Buying the game is not 'basically a microtransaction'. That would be like saying making a double cheeseburger cost 20c more than a cheeseburger is extortion because pound for pound, the former is a better deal. You choose what you want, and you get what you pay for, and then you're done spending money on this game forever. If you want a package that comes with a soundtrack for $10 more, you've bought a game and a soundtrack.

    Nope

I hope they plan on keeping it that way as well. I'd rather not have to pay extra to get a little extra in-game..

Let me clarify, since you seen to have thought more deeply about my comment then I did when I wrote it.

I specifically said I wouldn't mind the tiered system assuming the tiers are all within a reasonable range. My opposition to a tiered system stems more from things like Kickstarter, where the tiers range from $5 - $1000. As I pointed out, Chucklefish has shown no signs of greed in any way so far, so I have faith the tiers will be reasonable.

Your opinion of what a tiered system and micro-transactions are, differs from mine. Plenty of games offer purely cosmetic micro-transactions, yet people still feel the need to buy them for the same reason people feel the need to buy the newest cars, big houses, and the hottest clothing styles in the real world. It's purely a status symbol. The fact that what tier you purchased is displayed here on the forums (possibly, we have no idea what those reward titles are even for), only further proves that point. "If you don't buy the highest possible tier, you aren't a real fan! AND everyone here on the forums will know it!" I in no way was implying that Starbound will have micro-transactions, and I have heard Tiy say with my own ears "Fuck micro-transactions".

  12. I'm not too convinced about the tier system... I noticed Bartwe has two different donor badges (sword and lightning, the top two in the list)
Normally with these tiered donation systems, you either get one thing, or all the things if you donate higher.

It seems more likely that the different badges are for different games.
Are there kickstarters/pre-orders for TAG and Stardew Valley...???

Good thinking, would have taken me a little while to try to put that together myself...thanks for doing the work for me. :p

On Topic: I hope they don't do any pre-order bonuses. Pre-ordering used to be that you had the ability to make sure you had a copy reserved for you, but ever since digital distribution came out they decided to start giving rewards for pre-ordering, because they would never run out of copies like a game store. I mean, let's be real. How many people remember actually having to go in the game store and pray you found a copy of a new game on the shelves the next day?

  14. Ya, Star and Moon thought so too, but I'm not too sure about that. Also, I think they were just experimenting with the badges, since Bartwe doesn't have one anymore.

Haha, you're right. Sorry for looking too far into it, and thanks for not getting defensive.
I just feel that it's important to not associate higher priced packages with microtransactions. Slippery slope, and all that. There's never any uncertainty of 'is there going to be more stuff later' once you've picked your price, and that makes all the difference, even when cosmetic in-game things are a factor. I agree that having tiers of forum badges relative to tiers of purchase prices would be a terrible idea, but if someone wants to pay $500 on a kickstarter to get a custom hat or something silly, more power to them, I think.

I would enjoy a preorder bonus in the area of... free MP3's or whatever of all the soundtracks with the game. Or say, special backgrounds for the start screen. Or heck, even special 'insider' views of the newest updates comming to Starbound after its release! I know of another game that actually does the updates thing. Anyone who donated / preordered mega early gets secret knowledge of updates that are int he works and get first insight into them. Under the condition they dont talk about it iwth the public. It is an option!

Granted, i still wouldnt mind a special skin for the Teir 1 mech (its just an example).
