Try not to triple post. That's what the "Edit" button is for. If you make Professor Jaime angry, but manage to avoid him, he will become your nemesis and pursue you wherever you go. If you activate the Golden Foundry and then aquire the Black Heart, you can start to undo the damage you have done, but you won't be forgiven for the lives you've taken. Interesting. This would be a very slow way to aquire the Black Heart, but would avoid angering the galactic population. You would still be feared, though, since you would be known to possess a great deal of power. EDIT: Oops! Double post...
Yes, but it wouldn't lock away other paths/sidequests/make you hated? It's kind of my way to try to keep as many paths open as possible always. Also in this case the black heart is the most unique reward you can get. And since i want to stay good AND get The Black Heart i wondered if it would work. it would be somewhat like another ending. "Sacrifice" perhaps - absorbing the power of the black heart so you would become stronger and could protect people better. Also, since absorbing the heart disables the whole Black Star space station and makes it harmless, you don't even need to destroy it - you can leave it for study.
I would probably wait for Infernal to manufacture the heartstones, then kill him at the dark star and make the black heart from the heartstones he drops. It would be both a challenge and the best ending. I just wonder if any of the villains would drop any special items? Anyway, this is the best quest chain i've seen on this site and beyond. Great job!
I am not joking when I say that this is the best side quest chain on the forums so far. This side quest would be a great addition to the game, I think, since it would provide an ultimate goal in the end game experience (and if the player chooses the For Balance ending, an extra challenge in the game) besides exploring new planets and perhaps other spacial bodies, and so far I hadn't found any It also works well with your Topic "The Nemesis" ,and I wonder if you are planning on creating a quest chain for the rest of the Nemeses? Good Job on the quest line! Here's a cookie!
In the Golden Foundry there should be a rare drop which in a maintenance drone that shines up your armor and follows you around when it doesn't need a shining. This way my Luminous armor will blind everyone with its shininess! Other than that, I congratulate you on creating a fitting and epic conclusion to this massive questline. I've been waiting for more ever since I read the Garden of Eden. Excellent work. Also, for learning!
(slight necro ) I really enjoyed reading this quest line, so I can only imagine how playing it would be By only concern is how committed you are made to be if you pick up the dark heart. Not being able to do any "good guy" quests is a big thing and having people constantly trying to kill you can quickly get annoying. While undeniably less cool, I feel the dark heart should be freely equip-able like a normal accessory. To balance this the powers would have to be toned down a little but I personally would never actually get the dark heart unless I worked a second character through the entire game, which is something a side quest (no matter how epic) should force you to do. Please don't take this the wrong way. I already said I think the quest line is great. But something like the dark heart is just way too game changing outside of the main plot.
Actually, the if you go for the "For Balance" option, you can get the Black Heart without turning all the good guys hostile (although you would have to work harder and would still make some enemies). If you go for the evil option, however, although you will turn the good guys hostile, many evil characters will become friendly, and can be hired or will offer you quests.
Still, while you may gain access to new quests, you still lose access to others. Which is, as I said, a bit off for a side quest unless they directly go off the quest chain. Also, even if you do "for balance" part and become a "good guy", you then lose the chance to do all the "bad guy" quests. Either way, you lose out of some cool stuff to do in the game unless you have two characters, hence my opinion of it not being a permanent buff/debuff (as you may see it)
Power at a Price is meant to be the final part in a large quest line which has a profound impact on the Starbound universe. As such, there are meant to be serious, lasting consequences to completing the quest. There may be other side quests in which you can shake off the reputation you have gained, possibly by aquiring a new identity, or developing a mind-wipe device.
ANOTHER great idea, Draconis. I've been reading a lot of your suggestions lately, and they are great, I think the heartstones suggestion is pretty awesome.
You, sir, are not only a typing machine, gentleman, and scholar, you are definitely the maker of one of the best suggestions on this forum. This could rival darkbound for certes! I don't know why you don't have more likes!
I fully support this Quest! It would be an epic addition to the game! (I'm attracted to the "For Balance" Option for myself. )
I don't know . but it would be a GRRREAT idea to acquire the black heart and to not be counted as evil
