    So I don't think these were mentioned;
Being able to use the horizontal scroll bars in the options menu under the sound effect and music tabs
Being able to use the vertical scroll bars in most menus
Either the zoom in/outs being keybound or, still being being bound to, say, ctrl+mousewheel to zoom in and out smoothly between the 2x to x4 distances. I think that'd feel real nice.
I do think someone mentioned the techs getting keybinds, I'm all about that.

I agree with pretty much everything in the thread, good job thread.

I want paths...Like a class you can choose or develop, for example you can choose to stay on a planet and be a farmer, or an architect...or maybe a Medic, you bandages heal more, you can craft stim packs for regeneration...Something like that. Maybe an alchemist class that can create poisons that can be put into weapons (not for one hit, more like an enchantment? And that poison deals more damage than regular poison weapons that you find randomly?).

(and I like the undead mod race...Their story could be something like... they live in the earth after its destruction? I mean some kind of contamination made them wake up and their starting planet could be the destroyed earth, all in ruins and with a giant ball of smoke or something like that :p)

I would like more in-depth combat mechanics - special weapon properties, maybe, beyond the elemental effects we already have. Possibly a combo system or at least having directional swings? I know that the latter is planned for spears, but being able to aim my sword swings would be nice too. Or, at the very least, having an alternate attack with swords to cover a better attack arc than just a short line in front. Maybe weapons have a "fast" attack that hits a smaller area with a quicker swing (and more damage, since it's a focused strike), and a "strong" attack that hits a larger area and inflicts more knockback.

Having a "parry" system where you swing or block at the same time as an enemy and completely negate damage and/or bounce away from them would be pretty cool too.

  7. Camelslayer

    -Fix the combat
    -Add some more non-generated enemies

What I want has been said in one post or another.. I would like to put heavy emphasis on this one..
Perhaps anthropomorphic felines mentioned in suggestions section I recall seeing forever ago.. Like the cute and cuddly kitty in the humanoid robo suit.. Or that cat hippy one.. I forget the name of both at the moment.. =/

Also Avali or however it is spelled by Ryuujinzero... Another name which I forget the proper spelling of.. They may not be kitties, but I like 'em all the same! And if you see this Ryuujin, I still say you did an amazing job on that race.. Although I hadn't seen anything about it in months due to myself not being on compy in months..

^_^ - it's still alive and well, in fact more than just alive and well, got tonnes of new content and in a day or two will have all new tier 1-10 weapons.

Anyway, the race you're looking for the parfelians :p

Here's something I've thinking about. Feedback to the devs can come from many sources, such as Steam's graphs about hours played or players that launch the app using Steam. But, I feel that feedback like that should be found by the devs, using tools or metrics made available to them (and only them and other publishers or developers) by Steam. After all, Steam takes a sizable cut from the sales of Starbound that happen by way of the Steam client, so I'm assuming they also provide some helpful tools.

For the people here, on the forums, I think we should be concerned about the feedback we can provide, namely from our own experiences and our own expectations. It doesn't really matter to me if someone else bought Starbound and stopped playing, or why they did. If that person chose to not leave feedback, then they can't help the devs improve this game into something awesome. Let the devs worry about their financials and the numbers of players and hours played, that's way above my pay grade.

Instead, I think we should be focused on letting Chucklefish know what we expect, roughly what priority we would like to see things worked on, and what we do and don't like about the current game. This is feedback that we can provide, that will help Chucklefish develop the game in a way that makes us happier with it.

For example, I would expect that the major changes to the game would include:
    - Combat Balance (guns vs melee, bonehammers vs all)
    - Mobility Balance (enemies don't just run and jump and die, techs balanced for where/when you get them)
    - Progression that is more satisfying than "Random boss appears! Defeat it or go back and grind for 150 more steel bars!"
    - More-satisfying ways to get Pixels before Impervium, not just breaking millions of capsules or melting down diamonds
    - Healing balance (bed healing vs red stimpaks vs bandages vs banana bread)
    - Travel improvements (New Nav UI is awesome, please give us a way to see if we/someone has been to a planet or not)
    - Building improvements (oxygen generators, defenses that don't die to birds or kill my guards, ways to "tint" blocks)
    - Lava Improvements (swimming in the lava of a planet's core should be Melting for 100 dps, not Burning for 3dps)

My personal preference for what gets worked on when:
    1) Progression
    2) Pixel gain before endgame
    3) Travel Improvements
    4) Building Improvements
    5) Combat Balance
    6) Mobility Balance
    7) Healing Balance
    8) Lava Improvements

What I like about the game:
    - Tons of different materials for building
    - Different mobility options from the existing techs
    - Florans.
    - Lore is awesome, and made me interested, but also made me lose hours reading every codex entry on the wiki
    - Weapons are all "usable" despite variant levels of viability
    - New Armor system is easy to understand and is straightforward
    - I can build mystic circles
    - Chucklefish does listen to players, even from across the pond

What I don't like about the current game:
    - Meteors and Acid Rain on starter planets
    - Magma/Volcanic biomes on starter planet
    - Procedural Generation has potential and a good foundation, but not a lot of substance yet
    - Combat has a good start, but isn't balanced. There are some "Best" weapons and some "Worst" weapons.
    - Pixel Loss upon death is very frustrating when starting new characters, especially from cheap deaths
    - Superior Brains are as rare as they are in real life

    - Dragon Boss's hit box

    - Unable to build fun housing unless you condemn and forcefully evict NPCs from theirs
    - No way to change spawn points in vanilla game
    - No easy way to get to my underlava town, or back to the surface from my underlava town

I think this feedback would be useful to developers.

  17. jambox5

    jambox5 Big Damn Hero

This is sort of my 'wish list', most of this stuff has been mentioned or noted as "coming Soon" by the team, but a lot of it really should have been higher priority then it is/was (such as 6,7,and 8 in the must haves list)

    == Must haves ==

    1) better multiplayer optimization

    2) proper temperature gauge (ability to be too hot on a lava planet)

    3) persistent farming shouldn't need a mod for the growth mechanic to actually work

    4) Correct weather effects the weather leaks into homes as it is currently tracked as X blocks above player's X-axis. this is sloppy coding

    5) improved enemy & NPC AI

    6) Ability to delete characters W/O having to dig into the starbound directory and delete files. It's a very unfriendly way of doing it for casual or less computer savy audiences

    7) the game cannot ever remember if I set to fullscreen or windowed... this is so easy to change / fix in code or config files yet never gets resolved, all it takes is 1 boolean in a config file or code block

    8) key mapping why... just why

== would like to see ==

    1) racial armor abilities

    2) vehicles as vehicles (not as tech)

    3) ocean planets

    4) Hylotl content

    5) more varied biomes this is an issue, as it stands the risk vs. reward of going to snow/moon/asteroid biomes is so poorly balanced that one can successfully get to teir 10 w/o setting foot on one, and in my case wouldn't care to. could be solved with more diversity via biome specific ores (or at least heavier weight distribution for dangerous biomes) as well as biome specific events and dungeons

    6) Aquatic AI / Variety as it stands fish are all in one size category and there are 0 aggresive aquatic creatures

    7) creature diversity (although there is a randomness to the creature gen, it often spits out very similar looking creatures)

    8) more SFX for creatures... everything hisses or neighs like a horse

My personal expectations or hope how they would progress would be=

    1. Questing system. Story in a sandbox is going nowhere without the questing system put in tweaked and ready to rock.
    2. Pixel balancing, including selling and how it will be used overall in game. Get that nailed down. (Also hopefully removed from crafting. It on top of a mat cost is silly.)
    3. Combat. Including tweaks to the bosses. At a basic level the current is unsatisfying but .. serviceable. Needs to change asap.
    4. Techs. These need to be taken more of a look at and given some tlc right about here to lead into-
    5. Progression. With questing and combat in place this needs to be looked at, and at least the basics of the main quest started. The current gating system is very placeholder.
    -
    6. Crafting. Recipes shouldn't be locked to tiers, that is a huge placeholder. By defeating X I magically know how to make Y? Kind of lame.
    7. NPC expansion, including a crew. This is when extending village guard AI and such would be useful. You'll have the basics in to build around from 1,3,5.
    8. World refinement. With the major systems in place expanding biomes and Dungeons would be great. Expanding the quests to fit around new places and so on as you go.
    9. Extended Universe creation. Nebulae, black Holes, novae, pulsars, make Gas giants have a use, ect. Make it feel more like a universe generator then just planet generator.
    10. Buildings. What we have now is fine, but more options would be great. This is the time to add random greenhouses ect, as what we have is more then enough to last awhile.

The top five are the ones I feel the game most sorely lacks right now but needs. Priority over anything else.

As for what I like about the game.
    - Space. Sci-fi. The overall theme when it isn't getting to silly, is great.
    - The building system. Beautiful. All the tools to build huge structures quickly.
    - The scope or potential. Bit of both as the game has the foundations to be great.
    - Art direction. I wasn't sold on it at first but outside of one or two points its good
    - Music and Sound. What is in? Wonderful.

    Minor nitpicks

    - The generic feeling on many things. I know this will change, just saying.
    - Bird, fish, humanshape, squat? You need more monster bodyshapes/types eventually.
    - More variation on monsters per world. Seeing stretches of the same enemy over and over is dull.
    - The scan system stinks. A costless hand scanner for it should be available. (Metroid Prime style scanning?)

    Few things I'd personally like...

    1. Ship upgrades/progression/customization. I personally feel we should start in an even smaller starter ship, but quickly upgrade it out to a much larger one.
    2. Better combat+Weapon's balance. For the most part fighting enemies is about getting the highest damage dealing weapon in a single hit, and just 1-2 shotting them with little actual "combat." What little combat there is is just you trying to hit an enemy that is repeatedly jumping off-screen making it hard to tell where they will land so you can 1-2 shot them... Usually this weapon is a hammer, because for some reason they seem to always have both the best DPS AND Damage. As well as a forgiving hit box. Wait... what is the trade-off? This thing is better than any other two-handed weapon on ALL fronts!
    3. Bosses that are not so god damned easy to cheese. I can take 10-15 seconds, and have an arena where the boss can't even touch me. Made out of dirt.
    4. For places like the Apex labs and such, a block that you can't break/place anything on as the background/foreground blocks so that you can't just cheese the place by digging through it, or layering it over in a covering block.
