I think I understand what you're saying, and I don't disagree. However, right now we have existing weaponry and tools that are primitive. I don't think it's unreasonable for us to say that CF can use these, for a small portion of their game. If we insist upon them making every single aspect into Space Age materials, then they will have to redo portions of the game they've already finished and signed off on.

Is it a large part? No, but why do we make them do this? Instead, tell them that the tools/weaponry we have now is great, but improve upon it because we don't want to see it over and over for the entire game. We aren't starting from scratch, and I don't think it's realistic to ask CF to do that. Work with what we have, and move forward.

But what an amazingly interesting block of metal it is!

Yeah, I agree that at a certain point, one would think that the step after even a drill would be an upgrade to the matter manipulator, which seems to be the kind of tech I'd expect from a game like this.

however, this weaponry consists of what, 4 frames max? that's not a staggering workload.

if they finished and signed off on some portions including the stupid technology thing, too bad. go back and fix it, and next time, if you want to make a medieval game, do so, and not sci-fi.

take WH40k. they have TONS of melee in that, and almost none of it is simply forged metal. where it is forged metal, it is usually in possession of a society at an appropriate technology level.

    also, to keep on topic

    - i'd like to see ranged weapons not be penalized for their range, i'd rather have melee weapons have bonuses, if the idea is to discourage ranged combat (which is a stupid idea in and of itself)

not tryin to derail this thread as many of the others have been but....

id like to see a dislike button. once you have a decent negative percentage you cant post again till its back to zero. maybe 5-10 dislikes a day come off till you hit zero, then you can post again. and you can only dislike the same person 2-3 times a day to avoid abuse by tools. we seriously need this so we can shut some of these idiots down(hope im not one of them!).

    jus puttin it out there.

Just put the person on ignore. I have ignored only spambots and 1 other "user". That person was not ignored because of their posts, but because they loved the largest fonts in their posts and especially their signature. Obnoxiousness deserves an ignore. But disliking shouldn't be implemented because it would just cause too much negativity. And people could just make bogus accounts to keep someone from posting.

There you go. Dislike opinions. That makes sense..

The problem with a dislike button is it would also silence people with unpopular opinions. Simply put its one of the biggest reasons I avoid reddit, is because if your view does not go with the general census? Then it will be never or rarely be seen compared to the masses.

i would never dislike a post that doesnt share my opinion if the poster is making a valid attempt to convey their thoughts rationally and seriously. i would just like to dislike folks that constantly provoke, antagonize, troll and argue just for the sake of arguement. monitor the IP address and dont allow more then 1 dislike per post per ip address. im no pc genius so im not sure how to implement it but it could be done.
i hate ignoring folks because everyone has a good post every now and then sometimes even in spite of themselves.

but this is the internet, and you know it'll really just boil down to a popularity contest.

heh, there was no sarcasm involved, that was a genuine statement.

trust me on this, i've seen it done on another forum where i was a board moderator. a user there is still vindictive to me because i gave her "negative karma" a couple of times and told her why.

also, friends of mine managed to get me to #1 of the karma rankings..... months after i had left the forum.

craftable ships on planets that let you slowly cruise along or monorails.... id like to see spawners make people drop down in pods ;-0.... different turrets, multiple attack types for weapons maybe skill levels for each weapon? press down while in the air then attack? fall down quicker and slam your spear into the ground or stab? npc guard options? type in names of people you don't want guards to attack and they wont attack them or you can set em to passive and type in names of people you really don't want around your base and they'll attack em, i wonna flip.... flipping is flippin fun, charged attacks?, i think id actually enjoy having to have ammo? and have the energy used to special weapon moves? like bow... press and hold 1 button then click attack to maybe do a scatter shot of arrows ;-0 ?

I totally forgot about this. Particularly the inventory remembering where you drag it.

  16. Rissquette

Actually, I have some more things I'd like to see.

-Guns that use ammo not energy.
-Weapons that actually feel as if they're powerful and carry weight. In Terraria, there was a certain satisfaction you got by using different weapons to obliterate foes. There is no such feeling with Starboard. I don't know if it was the effects the weapons would make when they were used or what, but the weapons in Starbound seem weak and feeble.
-Gravity being the same on ALL parts of the same planet.
-More flashing lights, bloom, neon and overall scifi feel.
    -More random encounters.
-Different death animations of players and creatures, not just exploding into dust.
-Able to find all resource materials on a single planet, but more rare metals being on higher tier planets, while mining these resources requires progressively more advanced technology.
    -Novakids.

tiy does not want ammo for whatever reason.

the gravity thing is so that prefab structures/dungeons are not broken by variable gravity.

BUT, i'd like to see something instituted as a kind of compromise. give each species a "home gravity" and set that for all their settlements/dungeons. not only does it make sense, but it would allow for a lot more diversity in the kinds of prefabs we get.

Texture overlays for random monster parts (e.g. scales, polka-dots. Like Super Scribblenauts's adjectives.)
Recruit NPC followers that you can give equipment.
NPC bards that can be assigned instrument and song.
Air that behaves as a fluid on non-atmospheric worlds (can flush stuff out airlocks.)
Timed worlds with great rewards orbiting black holes (was planned, just hoping they don't forget it.)
Random wormholes (could be useful if they decide to scale fuel with distance after starmap merge.)
Some kind of research mechanic. (Research can involve planet/biome type, captured monsters, and monster loot. Create techs and weapon mods, splice monsters, etc. Build a cool [pun intended if arctic] functional research station.)
Coconut shells as an instrument and/or epic mount.

    "who are they?"

"that's my theme music. every hero needs theme music."

yea, i'd really like this, though it seems more modder's territory than base-game stuff.

i've joked with my friends that i'll force them to become these when we play multiplayer.

or, you can just kinda "cheat" and use starbound composer.
