I know, right? But GL telling that to anon in 4chan. They have a skull so thick you would need a PICKSAW to get into it. Jus'... I'm sad, I was waiting for this... I can wait more, though, but until... I don't know what to do.

Yeah, I have spent way more time restarting the game and trying everything I can think of and just staring at the logo today than I honestly care to admit... But I try to be understanding of the issues in game development.

Yeah, the same goes for me, I just sit here as it continuously gets stuck on the Chucklefish screen. I kind of assumed that Starbound would have been a relatively low intensity game that wouldn't need too great of a computer to be ran. I guess not. I pray that this is just as a part of beta and that it will require lower grade hardware later on, but as of now, I must say, this is less than amusing. :/

After years of being in development and being delayed multiple times, I think we should be able to expect there to be more than just a black screen with their logo. I expected a buggy mess of a game like most indie games are at launch and especially during beta but, I also expected something that I can play. They promised that I would get to play the beta if I pre-ordered and now it looks like I won't. They might delay the fix like they delayed the beta until the final release of the game.

  8. The people asking for refunds are being foolish plain and simple, stop acting like little babies it's the first few hours of beta. With that said we should worry more about finding a work around this XP bug and ignore the children. I've been trying anything I can think of and haven't had any luck.

Same here, there's no point in complaining and derailing the thread lets stick to finding a fix.

    Add me to the list.

Launcher works (slowly) then after the fish splash screen nothing happens. No actual 'crash,' it just goes to Not Responding.

    Love you DEVs!!!!

It's not foolish to want a refund when you didn't get what you paid for.

You're not going to find a work around. The devs said it's not compatible with XP until they release the fix next year.

  14. Did you even read about the beta stages and how they work? If you did you'd remember Tiy mentioning if you couldn't handle game breaking bugs at stage one then you should wait for stage 2 to play? You're either very uninformed of what you bought into or just being juvenile. If you couldn't handle the chance of running into problems you shouldn't be playing yet.

I paid for the game, which still hasn't been fully completed/launched yet. I'm not upset.

As for the workaround, I think there are enough people familiar with XP that a workaround can be fouind without the DEVs.

There can't be game breaking bugs if there isn't a game to break.
    FTFY.

I posted (in error?) in this thread about a similar problem, but I'll add my input here:

I have installed Starbound to a PC with the following specs:

    Windows XP SP3
    2 GB RAM
    intel Core 2 Duo Q6600 2.4GHz
    nvidia GeForce GTS 250 1GB

When starting the game from desktop icon or the Steam "Play" button in the Starbound screen, the game loads up the "Chucklefish" logo window, but seems to stall out and stop loading.

Task Manager shows 0% CPU load on starbound.exe (or starbound_opengl.exe) at this point. No HDD access either. Game appears for all purposes frozen. No error dialoges are on the screen reporting an error.

Please advise on how I can proceed with this issue. Thank you.

I might as well chip in and see if I can be of assistance.

My PC is running Windows 7 and I currently experience an issue similar to what you are describing but I think I have a solution. I don't know if this will work for you but click anywhere on the game window and it'll most likely say that it's not responding. After this just minimise the window (Windows + D if you're struggling to click) and click on it again to reopen. The game should load after about a minute or so.

    Good luck.
