Closed Post here if you are an XP user crashing at Chucklefish logo.

    Thank you very much, this fixed it for me getting into the game instead of freezing on the logo/loading

    That's not true. Starbound runs much better than Minecraft for me, and I have a system comparable to yours in potential performance.

    Also:

    DirectX 10 or later are not available for WinXP. So either you are mistaken, or you are using some unofficial implementation of DX10 which might be what causes problems for you in the first place.

    I'm an XP user, but I don't crash on the logo, If I'm lucky I can load my ship, but I can't port down without the game crashing. I think it is because there isn't enough ram allocated to Starbound. If anyone knows how to allocate more ram to this masterpiece of a game, then a reply would be greatly appreciated.

    Starbound is coded in C++, so it doesn't run in a managed environment like Java. It will be able to access as much RAM as is available on your system. Have you tried Sammy's XP-fix?

    I brought starbound a couple days ago and tried all other ways to make it work i too have xp and this method worked for me the first time of trying it :)

    There is another crash when i put this SDL files into my starbound folder. The game isn't freeze in Chuckle fish logo anymore , but when i push go button in the cockpit room there is error.

    Comme tout le monde j'attend ce jeu depuis plus d'un an...Et comme ça marche pas pr moi ( contrairement à certains, je me fat des frayeurs !

    right.. but we are in first beta here.. i dont think the optimization will be good enough till after 4th or 5th.. for now, we gotta trust chucklefish is doing everything they can, and use tweaks if we need to.. -btw, anyone able to connect to multiplayer with sammy's fix? or crash like me?

    no.. not causing the issues at all.. and it's a work arround.. i know dx10 isnt for xp.. -note, i tried with and without dx10.. game runs soo much smoother with dx10.. if anything it might help everyone else..

    Well, if you say so. Then why don't you point us towards the workaround you're using, maybe some adventurous folks might want to give it a try. :)

    Suhr, amasingly it worked, atleast I got the game started in opengl mode and fast, in 20 seconds realy. amasing !!
    It used to start very slow. Then not at all, with PLENTY of errors (microsoft c++ something, you name it)

    I just hope Chucklefish guys make so I and everyone else with same crazy errors (tens of them at once) can play the game without this workaround and as its intended.
    But thank you so much! Bravo.

    I'd been playing mostly fine til today. I got on once, game crashed, tried to relaunch and nothing. Won't get past loading. Checked task manager, nothing in the background.

    Maybe something got corrupted by the crash? I'd try moving all files out of starbound\player and starbound\universe and see if the game launches then.

    @Silverforte , not to bugger you, but

    A link or an elaboration, either would be nice.

    As for the crashing, I assume you already tried restarting your computer, yes? I got a similar problem where I couldn't make it to the main menu and it worked itself out by me leaving it alone and making some coffee. Dunno if that helps any.

    "Pre-update workaround was edit "upnpPortForwarding" : true, changing the true to false.
    After update that has moved from server.config to starbound.config, change it there, and viola.

    Performance/Lag issues despite tons of resources, and bandwith:
    edit universe_server.config "clockUpdatePacketInterval" : 500, change 500 to 250

    In theory 500 interval is nothing, but when it goes from player to server to universe, and looped back through it all,
    it adds up to lag. Possible all players on the server will need the same interval set, not tested that yet though."

    I'm having trouble normally with Windows XP.
    My system settings: (and I know I am running directly on min)
    Windows XP 32 bit - Service Pack 3
    Duo Core 9000 Xtreme 2.4ghz
    2 Gig Ram
    Nvidia Quadro FX 1600M 256 (516 Dedicated)

    Under the normal game it wouldn't even get to the logo. It would just bomb out right with like 4 different types of errors and a c++ error.
    On the Dll switch, running under normal starbound. It crashed with the error that will be displayed in the attachment.

    When going to the folder in steam and access the OpenGL exe, so far. It is running fine.

    Hopefully this may help.
