Well, OP and guys with him are right - buildig for the sake of building is not for everybody and if devs can add somethig to endgame, they totally should. Another type of planets, some not-so-procedural loot, some new NPC for the colony, maybe even some quests - anything would work.

I belive there will be plenty of content patches after realese, so i am ready for a bit of tedious waiting

Everyone has and should have their own opinion. From my point of view this game can be played forever. It has all the ingredients to make it a proper endless game. After I will be done with the main storyline, I will start colonizing different planets and build my ass off :)

I read some of this thread when it started, didn't get interested and ignored it for awhile, got surprised at how big it got, and I read the end. I may have missed some important stuff in the middle. Anyway... apparently this is a touchy subject for some reason. I'm not sure why. This game is a sandbox with some story missions. If you like the sandbox when the story's done, you have it. If you're less interested in the sandbox and pay for the story content, then the game's over. Maybe some other content will be released. I'm sure the community will create their own missions afterwards. Maybe find a group to play with.

That's my thoughts anyway. The devs don't need to feed endless content to keep everyone entertained. It's also possible I missed the entire point here.

We even believed the "Congrauration!" or "See you next play!" was a lovely touch. Nowadays it'd probably get blasted.

I'm sure there will be very cool story mods in the future. Especially if they're easy to create from a technical point of view.

Ok OP, assuming you've played the game multiple times before to completion of each patch, are you really upset that you have nothing to do now because you know what to expect?

The problem is that base building was the end game content, it's just been in game for a while now. 1.0 isn't going to be the end. With mods being able to actually update to a stable version without being corrupted in a few months just wait for those, or remember they've stated that they will be officially adding new stable themed-content to the game in the future. I am sad too that there isn't new armor/weapon tiers or more to do combat-wise at the end of the game but don't look don't look a gift horse in the mouth. 1.0 was meant to build the base of the game, you've been playing pieces of it for likely years now. Please understand that you've spoiled the base game for yourself, new content will come in time and will likely alleviate the end-game content problem.

Though I do agree that rewards in game are pretty horrific, I've found better stuff in random over world weapon chests then story mission and boss rewards.

but seriously man, I think we lack the proper answers to satisfy you because those answers very well might not exist in a form your find acceptable. here's what we can say, though: what you want in the game probably won't happen for a while (unless modding), there's not much you can - or anyone - can do about that at this point (except mod it in), and if all else fails then the game probably doesn't suit you - not because we don't want you here, but because you don't seem to want the game in its current final iteration - unless, of course, you use mods.

uh... this post is hereby stated to be "open letter" in format? add to it as you see fit, following the rules of the forum of course?
I dunno, I woke up not too long ago.

Note. Not "reward bag". "super" reward bag.

Granted, this might not be related to a "game completion reward". But if anything it does sound like they are doing things to ramp up the type/categories/tiers of rewards given for stuff.

I hope so, because getting random t1 weapons, bandaids, etc after the 5th, 6th mission in the game is kinda stupid IMO, lol. That or you visit some high level planet and you find a quest and it rewards you.... 50 pixels, or perhaps a bag that gives you 1 MM Module or something. Woo.

To be honest for the time spent on easily most of the missions compared to opening what feels like every second chest and every third crate you stumble across rewards in the scale of 1 MM Module never really were appropriate in the first place.

Still, I hope this super reward bag is something more interesting than just an incrementally larger standard reward bag.

If I open that thing and it contains Two MM Modules I will end up having to call it the literal least they could have done.

Still. Hey, maybe inexplicably late arriving better scaled game end rewards might actually turn up. Which then leaves us the question of "so, what about the post game issues?"

This thread has been derailed enough by rude behavior. HOWEVER, we (moderation) do NOT want to see the thread closed. And preferably, we'd like to see no one be warned or banned for any reason in the process of discussing the thread's topic.

That being said, several posts by several users have been deleted and edited to remove content that did not pertain to the thread -- and some warnings have been removed as a result.

This is however the thread's final warning (for everyone). Derails and other infractions will not be tolerated and will result in bans as opposed to standard warning. Please take care in your reports too, as abuse of the report system will also not be tolerated.

We understand that tensions regarding gameplay can run a bit hot under the collar -- so please respect each other. Debate (not argue) each other by providing points, alternatives, and solutions. Do not dismiss each others opinions. And take care not to confuse opinions with facts.

    1-3x Manipulator Module
    1-3x Tech Cards
1x Thank you card (saying, shockingly enough, Thanks for saving the Universe, now go do something else)
0-1x random weapon (the kind you find in all other chests in the game)

I repeat my statement: this game was made for multiple people to fool around in, without a clear goal in mind. There's 0 incentive to play more than once (different ship, big whoop), the tangible (none of that fulfillment bs) rewards for doing anything are minimal, the crafted items are scarce. If you want RP, if you want to build, if you want to play with your viewers/"friends", this game is excellent. Watching paint dry is fun when done with friends. Otherwise, it's a decent enough ~20h distraction, but nothing else.

As for the topic: there is no endgame. There is a post-game, but only things I would consider "wrapping up". Collect the named monsters. Collect the costumes. Build stuff (for whatever reason). Upgrade your ship to max + crew (for whatever reason). Stuff like that, completionism. No power/defense increase, no mini-bosses, no hidden bosses, no interesting/fun new weapons (1 laser weapon in the entire game...), no interesting new planets, no spacial anomalies worth exploring. Just scorched, lava and dark planets for the top tier ore (which makes a handful of things). What's the incentive of exploring other than finding ore? "secret" mini-dungeons full of the same random junk weapons?

I fee the biggest mistake CF made with starbound was the reliance on randomness for so many things, especially the weapons. There's a handful of unique weapons, but most is just rng crap. One would think it makes for a more interesting game, but really it just makes it more of a slog to get a good one.

My biggest hope is that Starbound turns out like Minecraft from a content standpoint. An update every couple years with rudimentary QoL/functionality, and a modding community like FTB, where the game's vanilla content is considered a boring pile of nothing compared to what is added by the players. Only a shame the UI can't be modified, the first WoW addon was a hotbar mod, to let the players do with it as they please...

I thought they changed planet-gen so that biomes weren't hard-locked to progression tier anymore?

  14. Squeegeeie

    Squeegeeie Scruffy Nerf-Herder

They are still largely locked into tier progression, but they were detached from the story progression. You don't have to have specific tiered armor to progress in the story, and you can progress your armor as far as you'd like before attempting that story mission. You do still have to go to more difficult planet ratings around different star types to get the better crafting materials.

Agreed. You can find powerful hammer on tier 3 planet (radioactice) and play with it whole game. Because craftable weapons is too weak. Yes, you can find better hammer, but chance is really-really-really low. Best quest based weapon you can get its sniper rifle from Nuru's arena based quest. It have 20 dps with 1 (or 0.9?) shots per second. Game need more named weapons without random generation.
Yes. Now you can find jungle or dark (or other) biomes on starter (where you start) planet.

Here are some of my many thoughts on what this game needs to feel more "complete":

RNG weapons will only take people so far, especially when there aren't nearly enough unique effects on them. The only thing that's randomized is damage, elemental effect and one of a few alternate attacks. Let's look at the components that make up a weapon as of right now:

    Damage, nothing to say here.

Elemental effects: Besides color and sound effects, none of these effects really matter currently. Electricity in water doesn't really do anything. Fire doesn't really do anything unique to floran enemies or catch wood/plant blocks on fire. (Even Minecraft had fire that could spread. That game was made by one guy!) Frost is unoriginal and boring. Poison is unoriginal and boring. Basically, you can ignore the element and just look at damage and alternate attacks because the element means nothing.

Alternate attacks: The only thing that differentiates one weapon from another in any meaningful way. CF could either strengthen their weaknesses or just dump all their time into their strengths. When it comes to starbound weapons, this is the only ace they have up their sleeve.
    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    What I'd like to see:

More weapon effects! I loved finding that wave sword that shot bubbles out when I swung it. Let's make that, but as a randomized effect that could be on any sword! We could even make the element determine whether it shoots bubbles, embers, electric sparks, poison droplets... Lets see more Borderlands style randomized effects!

Environmental detail! Some people just want to watch the world burn.. but they can't! Not in Starbound! You can't freeze water to make a path with your ice gun like Link in the N64 days. You can't charge water with electricity to damage everything in it like in many old xbox era games. You can't set things on fire like in many games. It's okay to steal game mechanics from really old games Chucklefish! You only set yourself up to fail if you don't bring as standard the unique innovations already achieved in the past!

Customization! Allow the players to "craft" weapons using materials. Pick a weapon type, pick a sprite and then add effects. Sort of like smithing and enchanting! Cool! Or another thing you could do is allow a "costume slot" for weapons! Say you REALLY love the look of a broadsword but it's super weak compared to that ugly broadsword you just found. Have no fear! Simply equip the strong broadsword for the 1337 stats and then equip the good looking broadsword in the "costume slot" to maintain that heroic look you had going!

I've got tons more ideas, but I'll stop here for now. Thanks for reading.

Nah, type of projectile is also important.

  18. Xylia

    Xylia Tiy's Beard

Not really. Poison = Fire = Cold = Electric.

I can't really see any difference between them whatsoever. Okay, occasionally, some random mobs take more damage from certain elements than others, but the only time I find that I actually care about this is during the Lunar Base and even then I haven't cared lately because they nerfed the guys where you can just whack em over the head with an iron broadsword and that'll solve your problems if you're quick about running in, swinging and running back out and if you bring enough salve that you won't run out of healing.

After that, though, I tend to not care what type of projectile a gun has. Actually I find myself USUALLY not even bothering with the secondary, except for maybe grenade launchers, occasionally. You dump all of your energy and get 20% more damage or you get homing rockets or something stupid that does half the damage as a normal rocket for way more energy cost. A lot of the secondaries are just way out of whack. Giant Sword...... dump ALL of your energy and do 20% more damage with a long chargeup. Really? Try 3x damage. That sounds more like it.

@aerionop : Not going to quote that large post, but I will say that it looks like SB was made primarily to be a heavily modded game. We already have Frackin'Universe which I'm very vocal about and it's only a matter of time until more, similar mods arise that add far more, like racial starter missions, etc... pretty much everything you have against the game in that post (with the exception of UI functionality). You can mod the UI, but only its appearance. FU, for example, adds an extra "slot" to the armor stats tooltips so that more things can be listed (like protections and buffs).

So most of what you said can be corrected by players with mods, and they said they were going to continue to develop the game post 1.0, so maybe they will add things like "Post" Game (or, rather, Post-Ruin) and other stuff. Give them time. 1.0 is always looked at in hindsight as being a "barely there" game. Look at Terraria's 1.0... it had very, very little content compared to the latest version. Or any other 1.0. It's just how games are.

EDIT: One thing I REALLY want them to add, is a Map System and a way to take a large screenshot of more than JUST the Viewing Area (like Terraria's Camera Mode, where you can highlight a huge area to take a snapshot of). What good is building these awesome bases if it is such a PITA to cobble together 50 screenshots to make the whole thing visible at once (or post 50 screenshots and then people yell at you for it...)

I want to see this Post-Ruin quests. Like, the asking you to rebuild Protectorate from scratches. Find right planet, complete some quests and build new base (not with your hands, like upgrading ship) for them.
