so obviously unfinished features are now subjective? Well I hope you never buy a car with some equally unfinsihed features. The state of software and its features is not up to expectations or subjective agreemens or disagreements.

Also, there are actually standards for the definitions of alpha, beta and release in terms of software and within those Stabroudn would be still an alpha as it i sstill very feature unfinished.

False Equivalence. Software =/= Game Mechanics.

Here is an example: You don't like that farming animals do not consume food; however if the devs like this and did it intentionally (and plenty of people are happy to not have to feed animals given the spoilage system) it is not unfinished - it is a subjective opinion.

Get it? The underlying software code is functioning. It's finished. It's fine. The mechanics being employed by that code are not the way you want them to be. That is Subjective.

I'll go the easiest route here because now I am getting seriously annoyed. Here are the list of features on the official Website.

    Endless Exploration

"In Starbound, you create your own story - there’s no wrong way to play! You may choose to save the universe from the forces that destroyed your home, uncovering greater galactic mysteries in the process, or you may wish to forego a heroic journey entirely in favor of colonizing uncharted planets."

As it stands right now a player can in fact choose to ignore the story; or could spend the rest of their lives colonizing uncharted planets and creating an ever growing excel sheet of charted worlds. Finished.

    Build Your Own World

"Settle down and farm the land, become an intergalactic landlord, hop from planet to planet collecting rare creatures, or delve into dangerous dungeons and lay claim to extraordinary treasures.

Discover ancient temples and modern metropolises, trees with eyes and mischievous penguins. Make use of hundreds of materials and over two thousand objects to build a sleepy secluded cabin in the woods, a medieval castle, or an underwater arcade."

Everything listed here is in the game. Finished.

    Multiplayer & Moddable

"Starbound has been built from the ground up to be multiplayer and easily moddable. You have the tools to make the universe your own and modify the game to suit your play style - add new races, biomes, dungeons, and quests - the possibilities are limitless."

Many of the people haven't played a vanilla un-modded version of the game in years. Finished.

I'm not saying its perfect; and there is room to improve almost everything as it should be in a sandbox game. Saying your list of quibbles which is half subjective and aesthetic constitutes a smoking gun of an unfinished mess is hyperbolic. So far this conversation is the most unpleasant thing I've endured in regards to this game and that's including 150+ hours of early access play and a solid 40 since release.

Such a game is a piece of software, and game mechanics or better how well designed the efatures are as in do they have logic gaps an problems is sayign soemthign about the maturity of a software. like that or not.

also, nice for your little explanaition fo so called finished things, they exist, but existing is not finished. Now lookup at all the fatures the game was supposed to get with release, then you see how finsiehd it is. Just picking the few that fit your opinion are not the ones that were told us to be in the release.

also, you fail already at "uncharted planets. How can a planet eb uncharted when there is already at least 1 NPC on it? that isn't "uncharted" since most have already settlements and stuff, so sry you even failed within yoru own argumentation. And even ontop it's not infinite planets have a theoretical max number. So if we go your little way of argumentation then no it's not even finished.

And the multiplayer, well ask your multiplayercommunity how happy they are about th max 4 ppl group size they are and the removing of the planetary chat.

You are truly funny, because I could program a game gneratign a random single pixel as "planet" and fit criteria 1. Now is that finished? hardly. They coudl ahve "released" te game 2 years ago and with your reasoning it would fit too.
You have no objectivity since you just try to find arguments for your opinion not looking for an objective jusdgement on all the features existing and even those that were said to exist for a release.

    existing =/=finished.

Thats like making a calculator with only 2 operations saying is finished.

bro, tons of people feel the way LilyV3 does. like, really. just look around the forums and the stream reviews.

you might like starbound 1.0 and that's totally fine but a pretty decent chunk of the community is unsatisfied. you're taking this stance that opinions are subjective but you're saying since your opinions are probably also the devs (which is hella reaching lol) make them right? nah man you can't have it both ways either both viewpoints are equally valid or one of you is wrong

people have -always- been unsatisfied with one aspect of the game and people have always somehow been offended by the fact and have to defend it. been watching it happen for years on this forum and one thing i've learned is you don't get to just unilaterally dismiss stuff

I don't know, feeding farm animals sound annoying in a game that isn't Harvest Moon.

Seriously, this is sandbox game with tons of planets, who has time to get back to old planets to feed everything on schedule? Its not a simulation game xD

i just want to throw my list i've made for features that CF promised on 1.0 release(they're not here) :
    - weather changing device
    - terramorphing/terraforming device
    - each race exclusive mechs
    - each race background story plus starting animations for each of them
    - controller support

so as you can see there is a lot missing things, not to mention there is a serious lack in content, and im thinking developing a game for 5 year would bring you so much content right ? nope they just cut fun things because why not. i personaly like new hot bar, gameplay in most part is fun, battle system is pieace of garbage(mostly) specialy mage/high tech things
(why the fck i would need to charge every single attack ?) and guns takes mana/stamina ? this is bollox, Terraria got fighting so much better. building/colony making is quite fun but frog merchant should have all furniture avaiable always, not 1 type per day i think

Thank God for mods, after installing:
    - instant craft,
    - better chests(the one you can change names),
    - frackin universe(with bees and brewery),
    - frackin music and races,
    - gardening bots,
    - some new tech mods,
    - SKIPABLE CINEMATICS!(it should be in normal game),
    - matter manipulator manipulator,
    - purchesable pets,
    - new headgear mod,
    - container ui tweak(the one which seperate windows so you can actually see whats going on),
    - everfrog(frog has now full list of furniture),
    - weapon stats
    - food stack(needed to make wines and other thing in starbooze-frackin universe)
    - themed colony deeds(it also should be in normal game)

the game is now playable and i can enjoy it, not to mention content it adds. shouldn't it be in the first place without mods ?

so the game have a lot of potential, but it's not used by developers, or they cut really great things that was already in game( story of each race, race weapons etc.). i do think its great that all of ppl who like the game it is, have fun. but dont be an ass and let those who have other feeling about it, to say it. and dont try to force/convince us it's good game, because for us it isn't.

and there we come back to the point that we can house people on our planets who do nothign than standing or walking around popping some money at some place. And thats why the game doesn't feels much alive, because aside from shooting creepers they do not much and all the work is up to you.

yes it should, mods shouldn't be needed to get a finished game.

Despite enjoying 1.0 more or less, I do agree with those talking about lack of content. I look at a game like Mount & Blade Warband, which had distinctly shit graphics yet had many many things you could do within the game.

This game is on the "retro graphics" train, but it's definitely not making up for it with detailed content. The whole reason I play lower graphics games is because it's so easy to stuff them to overflowing with content. Since you're not worrying about graphics all the time you can focus on fleshing out the mechanics and making a world that is immersive and believable.

I hope CF gets right back to work on this game like it didn't "release" because there is so much more work that needs to be done. Starbound is an excellent "shell of a game", but now it needs the meat to fill it up.

The content it does have is not detailed. It feels superficial.

In a nutshell, what we need are more features, some kind of endgame, multi-ability gear (EPP's are horribly designed at the moment), and some balancing and bug fixing. And perhaps the official implementation of mod content, too.
This game has much that needs to be done, and I'd say it's very wrong to call the game "released".
If they needed to boost sales with a flashy update and title, they really could've referred to each stage of development with a Greek alphabeta letter. Like, before it was Alpha, and now it's Sigma. Something flashy like that. Theta could be the terraforming update or something.
Because, ya know, Verbed Animal-Noun names aren't as flashy as "The Release".
