Possible Spoilers about Penny/Sam.

Jesus wept... reading this thread is like reading Youtube comments! Lemme throw my input into the pile here.

1. Everyone is talking about this "infamous cutscene" but nobody has posted evidence of the ENTIRE EXCHANGE. I saw the quote from Vincent, but nobody has quoted or screenshotted Penny's reaction and just said that is was "trying to hush him" or whatever. I'm not gonna be satisfied with paraphrasing if y'all are gonna treat this like an episode of Jerry Springer.

2. This is just a game. Seriously guys calm the fuck down. It is perfectly fine to speculate that Penny is a cheating garden tool, it is perfectly fine to speculate that Penny is as sweet and innocent as she appears. Personally I think she is a bit of a vapid c-word, but that's just my take on it.

I have seen both sides make venomous comments about the other in this thread, even going so far as to throw the word "sexist" or whatever when nobody even made mention of anything remotely like that. Not wanting to single you out here Deleth, but you in particular have been throwing around judgements of people's character based on things they never even implied in there first place. There have been others, but unfortunately you've been around since the first page.

3. Treating a game as a real life scenario is just plain silly. I'm not talking about the emotions and love triangles, but the "Well people think the moon is flat so should we treat their opinions seriously?" No we shouldn't, because this is a real life issue that is potentially damaging to our pursuit of knowledge. In contrast, you guys are arguing about your pretend waifus like you are literally going to take your computer to a registry office in Vegas. In a game, or any work of fiction, most opinions and theories are equally valid because it's not bloody real and it's a fun little thought exercise.

When I started playing this game, I had really high hopes for the community. "It's a lovely little farming sim like HM" I thought. "There's no way the community would become a buzzing hive of accusatory hornets over this" I thought. After seeing this, the Demetrius/Maru controversy and more throughout the forums, I feel incredibly disappointed. I really hope this doesn't descend into Undertale Fandom territory.

Basically what I'm trying to say is that it's fine and healthy for these threads to crop up,but just be more excellent to one another. The Internet is a scary place these days and I think a little escapism is nice. Debate about your waifus and which pet is better all you like, but don't make it a personal mud-slinging tournament.

As an aside, I was gonna marry Penny because she is super boring to me, so her personality wouldn't change after marriage. If you guys tell me which dialogue options to pick, I'll personally go through and take screenshots.

The thing about not being specific on who you're calling out, is that everyone will assume you are calling them out. When we all know, some in this thread were trying to keep the peace, while others bantered on. While it did get a bit caustic at some points, it hasn't really fallen so far that I would think this an appropriate response to it all. For the most part, it's just a discussion about speculation, when you throw in qualifiers like "you guys and your waifu's" Kind of makes you come off like a pretentious know-it-all. To be frank.

But I doubt that was really your intention, so I'll assume you're just trying to make sure the discussion progresses nice and peacefully. Which is awesome! , but maybe try to avoid talking like a scolding mother on a forum that's discussing the very game you're choosing to criticize us for loving? ^^;

 

The dialogue you need is the farming one and not the tending animals one, I believe. I don't know if the other one matters for this or not

To be fair, though...people are assuming there's ANY sort of relationship between you and her before this event aside from just being friends. There's nothing to say she can't be involved w/someone else...especially since I think it's MEANT to be viewed before you give her the bouquet, which is the equivalent of actually asking her out.

That said, in my eyes it's simply her being helped up into a tree. Your character does the same thing with Leah at one point, so why can't Sam simply be doing the same thing with Penny?

Sure, it's possible that they were getting it on, but it just doesn't sound like it, imo.

I'm actually at the point of seeing this on my new character, so I'll try to remember to look at precisely what she says. ^^

 

As I've mentioned in my previous post (in page 3), the chat when Vincent mentions the two of them can happen AFTER the 8 heart event with Penny. I am not entirely sure (I haven't checked) whether or not the game is meant to have the cut scene BEFORE or DURING the 8 heart event, but many players have had Vincent spoke to them about this after the 8 heart event, and some even while married with Penny - Which of course tilted a lot of players who married her while having the same assumption that the two were banging.

I get it. It isn't a problem for players who learnt about this before getting 8 hearts with Penny.

 

I think this just has more to do with the fact that you can still Bouquet and 10-star the other singles, even after you are taken/married. It simply leads to weird, adulterous situations (Although it's most likely just wonky programming in this instance)

I.E I was able to give abigail a bouquet, get her to 10-stars, and witness the event where the player kisses her, all while being married to the most perfect waifu "Old-Maru"

Edit: Maru made no comment whatsoever. She actually asked to have a baby the same night.

 

Yeah. There probably needs to be a flag of some sort that changes the dialogue a bit if you've either already given her the bouquet, or you're married...so that it says that he did it awhile back, and not JUST yesterday. Either that, or just change it to mention Sam and someone else...or simply mention that it "happened before you two got together" or something.

It's just...yeah, I get how people could misconstrue it if they didn't trigger the event until after they gave her the bouquet...or after they married her. I can see how that would ruffle feathers, as well, heh.

 

Yeah, you guys are devolving into accusing Sam of being a rapist and coercing her into these things, completely denying anything based on "nu-uh I don't think so" or outright excusing it. But I and everyone else who disagrees are the ones who "aren't even trying anymore". You do realize that declaring the opposition has given up when nothing further could be from the truth due to being incapable of coming up with coherent and logical retorts just shows your side basically has decided to resolve this matter by shouting down anyone who disagrees, right?

Sure it is but people tend to get absorbed in things they like, games, books and such. In this case even more so, as she's a possible "Spouse" and thus a romantic interest in the game.

Yes and I've been the one who has been accused of sexism, implied "slut shaming", intolerance and a bunch of other lovely things. I do however respond in kind to it, because there's little to no reason not to. You wont win any boxing fight if your right arm is tied behind your back while the opponent is allowed to hit below the belt.

Except, that's not his this works. It's not a community work, this isn't a project where we all sit together and contribute tho. It's a bit like fan fiction and coming up with alternative character interpretation, that CAN be fun. At least till you try to push whatever you came up with as "canon".

It will, the Reddit is already halfway there. Where people are growing convinced Abigail is the Wizards biological daughter and coming up with scenarios ranging from "open marriage" to "swingers" to "she HAD to cheat because Pierre is infertile" and happily push these ideas. With many people actually supporting them solely because they seem "progressive" and "open".


@Caudyr, thing is that relationships don't usually come out of nowhere. They don't "suddenly" pick up nor do they tend to end that way especially in a setting such as small town but tend to develop and evolve. Which is why having more than one at a time, especially if one of them is supposed to become serious to quite a few people seems rather sketchy. It's as if we strike up a relationship with Marni, while she's simultaneously still seeing the mayor for the longest time. Some are fine with it, some are very much not. Especially if this includes going so far as to risk a marriage and have children.

 

Question: Who rolls up sleeves on a suit? Genuinely curious, it's like taking a Benz and giving it a bit of a 'rustic' paint-job

Basically the formula is, you pick an option, Vincent asks you an inappropriate question (as kids do) and Penny scolds him (as a teacher would). The specific "controversial scene" has Penny tell Vincent that it's rude to gossip, because that's true. It IS rude to gossip about anything. And what is gossip?

Basically, you guys are literally gossiping about gossip. There is no evidence to say that Penny is sampling Sam's wood or otherwise. It is all speculation and gossip. At the end of the day, Vincent is a little kid who likes to run his mouth and Penny is aware of how words from the mouths of babes can become misconstrued. Ask any teacher or parent in real life and they will have at least one story where their kid spread rumours that were either misunderstood or simply not true.

Except, no it doesn't. He takes the definition of the word and runs with it, pretending that somehow this would have an impact on the scene itself. People who agree with him from the get go go "Oh yes, that's right!" because you guys would try basically anything to defend Penny here. Heck some of you stooped as low as accusing Sam of being a possible rapist IF anything had happened between them as obviously he would be emotionally coercing her. Hecke even if we would go by the very definition of the word "gossip" i.e not confirmed as true it neither implies they're untrue. In fact Penny chosing that word when trying to get Vincent to shut up, rather than telling him he shouldn't lie or denying anything about it isnn't speaking much in your favour.

You guys are so desperate to shut down the entire conversation, to slander anyone who disagrees (seriously, accusing people of gossiping as Cazakatari does) and pretend there's nothing going on here, it explains quite neatly how some cheaters avoid detection for possibly decades. Because their spouses and family simply do not want to see and outright refuse even the possibility when there's pretty good evidence of sketchy behaviour in existence.


Edit, also whether the kid is talkative has nothing to do with his credibility. Most of the dubious things he says he's phrasing as questions and not as statements. Thus trying to throw this one in with his question about Goblins (which for all intent and purposes might exist in this setting and eat children, Penny isn't even denying this she's merely stating that talking about it frightens Jas is an extreme stretch while also ignoring how Penny at no point makes any kind of effort to deny what he said.

Dude I am SO sorry for whatever has occurred in your real life to make you feel so strongly about this situation, but this is a GAME. This only occurs due to WONKY PROGRAMMING. I'm not even defending her- Someone went through ALL THE CUTSCENES to end any SPECULATION about the situation, and you still want to argue.

I know you guys love his argument, because it looks pseudo eloquent while citing a definition of a single word which doesn't remotely say what you guys are pretending it does. Then pretending based on that you can disregard the entire situation and pretend it has been proven untrue. I am embarrassed for your guys just reading this, like... of all the things to be concerned with you are getting so worked up over virtual people. I think many of you need to take a break from the virtual world and immerse yourself back into reality, because honestly.. while you are sitting here obsessing over what a virtual men and women are doing, the world is continuing on.. and things aren't looking the brightest out here.

People need to concern themselves more with the state of the real world, than the questionable happenings going on in the town of make believe.
