Possible Spoilers about Penny/Sam.

Basically, which is something a lot of people are missing entirely. Leah had a boyfriend in the past, nobody cares because it's in the past. Penny is playing the innocent want to be housewife who is shy and homely. Yet while she's getting serious with you, mostly to finally escape that trailer she's simultaneously doing stuff with Sam. Something NONE of the other girls is, not Haley, not Leah, not even Maru. If it had been at some point long ago, before you two started getting closer who the hell would care but it wasn't.

And the thing is how contrary this is to the picture of her she is grooming with the townspeople and you, a picture most people are happily "falling" for. It's hilarious after how most people immediatly stereotyped Haley as a "vain slut" to be ignored, when she turned out to be actually a rather nice albeit fairly sheltered person and fawned over Penny whom happens to be rather sketchy when it comes to her motivations. Especially the part where she doesn't want you to know these things she did right before and she doesn't want you to know for a reason.

 

Didn't see this talk with Vincent yet so I'm just going off people's post, but same thing applies still wouldn't it? Girls I think are more easily embarrassed and blushie about their love life.

But even if she was with Sam, I don't think she's a ho. As mentioned above by the person listing off whose love interest is whose, each bachelor and bachelorette are paired off with one another. It's like the "rival" system in Harvest Moon, where if you don't romance and take your preferred guy/girl, another person in the village will. There's no official current rival system in place, but that's the general feel of it.

 

You're going to extreme lenghts to explain why the girl that is currently already involved with you, is going out of their way to at the very least make out with another girl, or outright sleep with him, right before meeting up with you and shortly after going official. This isn't like the "Harvest moon rival" thing, unless Muffy got banged on the counter a few days before marrying you.

It's just so damn hilarious because her attempt to shut him up shows she knows that isn't something anyone the least you should learn about. This isn't happening when you go after another girl, it's happening while going after Penny. Added boni for it going so completely against how she presents herself to the community, as she shy bookworm girl who can do no wrong and just wants to have a family of her own and some innocent love, while she is the ONLY girl in the game to pull things like this. I need to edit that Korgot the Barbarian video just to see the reactions on reddit.

 

I don't think it's much of a rivalry for love when your supposed rival is already secretly banging the person behind your back and that same person you've feelings for is trying to hide the fact that they're banging somebody else on the side while the both of you are quite affectionate toward each other already. I dunno everybody else, but that spells ho to me.

I've seen it. I don't think I saw any mention of Penny shutting Vincent up. Maybe I needed to talk to him a second time or something. Maybe I accidentally skipped over it. But I did see this talk.

I'm not going to extreme lengths, I'm simply seeing something else other than what you're saying.

Penny may be already highly involved with your character, but I saw that quote by Vincent about how his big brother is so strong, etc etc when I wasn't involved with Penny at all (I'm still on first year Spring because I started over). I dismissed it because it looked like normal banter. I have her at I believe either 3 or 4 hearts, which isn't that close. Same thing with Sam, he's only at 3 hearts. I can't see it your way and think anything much more of it probably because of three things--I'm not highly interested in any of the bachelors/bachelorettes really is one. Two is because I saw that comment by Vincent way before any of them were deeply involved with me, so even if they were banging, it doesn't affect me--maybe yours was just bad timing, that you're seeing this now rather than much earlier in the game? Third is because it's not really that farfetched for a girl to be easily embarassed by romance stuff, no matter how innocent (source: am girl, kinda shy about these matters).

But mostly I think it's just timing. As mentioned, I saw that comment by Vincent and I'm not involved with either Sam or Penny, so perhaps it's just unfortunate timing on your game's part maybe, and now it looks like ho-ing because of it.

 

This piece of dialogue happens during Penny's EIGHT heart event, the picnic with Vincent and Jas just outside town. And she was with Sam doing that the night prior. Take what you will from that.

 

Huh really? I'm 99.99% certain I've seen this from Vincent while doing my daily rounds around town talking to people I see so they don't decay.

I haven't gotten any events from Penny yet.

I personally don't like Penny but I don't hate her either.
I'm just a lil' bit skeptical of it all. I admit, CA is the kind of guy to only put in little bits of suggestion, but so far, this is only one suggestion, if it even is one.

The MarniexLewis thing has 3 suggestions going for it, the last one being quite damning evidence so it's legit. That's why I'm not too certain on the whole Penny deal yet.

 

Thought technically even if it is at the eight heart event, unless you were real fast about getting them their bouquet you aren't technically even dating yet? So it's entirely possible that Penny could have 'eight hearts' with Sam too

Though really if the main character is able to get every guy and girl to ten hearts and give them all bouquets I doubt that Penny fooling around with Sam is really that big of a deal

 

Okay, we have one guy who is defending his waifu and a girl who goes "she can do what she wants, just put a ring on her anyway you mysogynist!". This is funny, really funny. And yes, someone "fooling around" when stuff is getting serious up to and including marriage is a pretty damn big deal. Which given Penny's other behaviour and claims, makes her the single worst choice of girls by a large margin when it comes to choosing someone to have children with.

I literally didn't mention anything about telling you what to do about marrying her, was just offering another point of view and some reasoning. I'm not trying to disprove you at all if that's what you're thinking, nor am I saying or have said anything about cheating being alright. However, I can see you're passionate about this subject and are determined to aggressively see it your way so I'll just bow out.

One last thing though, after thorough rereading of the screenshot and rereading your original post, I was originally very confused why you would see Vincent's remark that way. I read it again and again and no matter how much I turned it over in my head, I couldn't see the "banging" implication. I was trying to figure out how you could have seen it that way but then I finally understand--you said against a tree, which, I've realized, is a position people normally bang in, seeing it in movies and all.

I keep reading it as it is the way Vincent says, which is they were climbing a tree. So no matter how much I turned that thought in my head, that's still all I can see it as--an innocent climbing of a tree. Maybe some holding hands and other mushy gushy stuff. Sex up on the tree? Perhaps--I'm not denying they did not since it's a possibility--I wouldn't put anything past CA--but I believe Vincent's statement was meant to be just as it was face value. Only CA can truly say if he really did mean for the suggestive implication to be in there.

Actually I just took a look at someone's YouTube video of all of Penny's heart events...and Vincent's comment didn't appear at all during the 8 heart event. Or any other event for that matter. So I feel like this did end up being a stroke of 'bad' luck of having him say something like that when being that far along with the hearts...

 

This. I saw this bit of dialogue earlier and wasn't seeing Penny at all. It was just a random bit of dialogue.

 

You can see the line Vincent says when you pick the farming option and saying veggies make you big and strong or something like that. The youtube video picks the other choice about living off the land

At no point, did you even come close to making anything that could be considered a decent and logical argument. Instead you sought refugee in audacity, trying to come up a barrage of absurd and ludicrous possibilities up to and including them being "spies for the Gotoro Empire" in a vain attempt to distract the reader from the actual events, Vincents recounting and Penny's reaction to it desperately trying to make them seem as absurd as your nonsense. That isn't going to work, try harder.

Once again, the actual range of possibilities leading to this chain of events going down is rather small and Penny's reaction is very telling. You guys are trying to get out of by going "But mehbeh she also had x hearts with Sam!", first of all Penny isn't a player, secondly that would still be two timing. The fact that this happens right before or after the player and Penny went official with marriage shortly after makes anything and everything about her dubious. Both the image she groomed with the townspeople, aswell as her supposed goals and wants, her faked innocence with the player while simultaneously engaging in intimate acts with Sam.

 

Let it go, it's a game.

 

You're very...umm...Diligent? In pursuing your own line of logic behind the events you see. But you're too quick to dismiss any other line of logic (See: Begging the question). I'd typically leave you alone, there's little to be said that will get you off your line of logic without it turning into some mud-slinging thread of negativity. So in regards to that, I'd rather turn it into a progressive discussion.

Regarding relationships in SDV, I really like what CA has done, but I feel the post-marriage play is a bit...dry. Pursuing the interests is fun and intriguing because things need to be maintained, and the pacing of the overall gameplay, from foraging, fishing, mining, and farming, makes any social activity a real concern for commitment. So I feel the reward for committing that time and effort into these relationships could be a bit better rewarded. With more involved partners, such as date nights, vacations, even an age modifier would be interesting.

The easiest I feel would be to add a DLC, (yes, long ways away I'm sure) that would give you a chance to go on a vacation. Say take a season and go on a cruise. A cruise-liner map with your spouse and possible child, wouldn't be overly difficult to create with the engine he's using. And it adds a bit more to the characters. It's just a suggestion but it shows that this game has TREMENDOUS upside, the fundamentals are so polished and fleshed-out that just a few tweaks here and there makes it extremely clean. So all that's left is to move into adding things to the game itself. Which I don't see any reason he couldn't just do that for the next few years, instead of sequels just adding content to this game with it's very clean fundamental gameplay could be all he needs to do.

I completely agree with everything about what you said about Penny. I mean seriously, childhood friends climb onto a tree at night to what... talk about life and casual talk? Then the next day she has that reaction when Vincent revealed it. Lets be real. They were banging, why a tree? They didn't want anyone to know, if they did it in Pam's trailer then she probably would have heard it. If it was at Sam's house then his mother/brother would have heard it.

The problem is that this event occurred when some people already had 8 hearts (or more) while dating her. Many people had full intentions in marrying her. So of course there will be lots of people annoyed at this. As this has happened already to many people IRL (quite common). Sure some people had their eyes on the other bachelor/bachelorettes so this can easily be dismissed to them.

Most people are head over heels in love with Penny. Because she characterizes everything they love in women, at a first glance.
I don't find the tree story all that ambiguous, especially if one looks at how he set up Marni/Lewis story. Add to that Penny's general talk about how she "wants to move out" desperately and her other misc talk along with CA's tendency to set such things up and the "innocent perfect waifu" turns into someone who sees you as her meal ticket.
It's more her entire demeanor, she acts the part of the good daughter, the shy studious girl. She usually sits next to the tree near Sam's house. She constantly harps on how she wants to marry and have a family of her own with children and everything.

Then while you're already getting involved with her, she randomly bangs Sam, dropping the entire act she had up until now and basically spitting on the developing relationship. When Vincent brings it up she immediately jumps in to silence him, because she knows this coming out is bad for her, real bad.

I was never a Penny fan, always more in the Abigail group but let's be honest here. It invalidates anything and everything she said up until that point and puts a different spin on her behavior. She is praying water but drinking wine and those traits and behavior, those aren't exactly the ones anyone would want in their future husband/wife and parent of their children. Especially just a few days/weeks away from marriage.

While the evil Haley and some other people turn out to be actually decent people. It's funny.

tl;dr

Penny is a trap, she's pathing the MC. She wants to get out of the trailer and live with you while still being in love with Sam. She's just doing it for financial security.

To anyone who married Penny and felt bad about this, here's some advice.
Get Sam to 8 hearts and give him a bouquet, he'll turn homo for you. He was homo the whole time. Problem solved.
