Portable 3D Analyzer will let you scan objects without the need to raid and destroy everybody's house. Everyone likes the 3D printer, it is awesome for aesthetics since you don't need to keep large amounts of storage space. But you really should be a space pirate and destroy friendly citizen and nation just because you like the things they have and want it too? This Portable 3D Analyzer will not print, but will analyze objects without having to take it to base, making inventory much less of a problem, 3D printer will be much more used because you will not want to grab furniture you don't intend to use right away, and will leave complete villages and buildings intact across the universe. How it could work: It could be the first recipe in the 3D printer, so you automatically receives the connection between both things and cost some pixels so you will not start with it right away. With it selected, hovering any furniture will have a little thing showing if it's already scanned, how much it cost, or if it's not scanneable. Clicking then will analyze and use the pixels. Analyzing with this item could cost more pixels, although i don't think that's necessary. and you also can only craft in your base anyway. Thanks for reading, share your thoughts about this =D
hehe i just realized it would destroy some things anyway, since analyzing destroys it. But it still cause much less damage since you will be able to tell which one you have and not grab dupes, and the best part is not getting the inventore all filled up with furniture you probably are not gonna use soon
I saw a different thread about how the current 3D Printer is largely worthless right now due to the high cost to scan items (and that they are destroyed), the high cost to print them, and the large restrictions of what you can scan. I largely agreed with that, and this could be a good fix for at least the first part. It would be much more convenient to bring a scanner to a planet and scan the various items without having to break any of them. I would even go so far to make so it doesn't destroy the item.
If they really need to make things cost, they could make that the base 3D printer only consume the object, while the portable only consume pixels (and much less than it cost now). that could work too
