So I think I've got everything about right when I started to Port Forward Starbound. This is my first time portfowarding anything so I'm not really sure. I'm just stumped on what to put in these three categories.

"Global PortStart, Global PortEnd, and Base HostPort" I've tried putting 21025 into all three of them and my friends still couldn't connect! Unless I'm using the wrong IP, I don't know! I've looked up my IP on whatismyip and even I couldn't connect to my own server. I tried using my IVP4 addres, trying to connect via through my wireless lan adapter Ip which is 192.168..... yada yada yada and that worked fine, but my friends couldn't join. I also tried Ethernet Adapter Hamachi IVP4, same result as the first one. I can join but my friends can't! Can someone please help me on this? Thanks so much.

    Hello Brony,

It sounds like you may be skipping the step to forward your port on your router. Your best bet is to set a static ip on your server hosting the game (192.168.1.XXX) and in your router settings, enable port forwarding for your host ip with TCP/UDP port 21025. If you can provide me with your router model, I can help you find the settings you need to change.

As far as your server goes, you will always connect from your local ip, as in your case would be the 192.168 address. Your friends will connect to your external IP, which you know to find using whatismyip.

Do you know where I would check my Router Model? I'm sorry, I'm new to all this.

Connect to your own server using 127.0.0.1, I found that there were some kind of issues when I used my 192.168.x.x IP to connect to my own server, but I don't remember what it was.

Keep in mind as well that if you are using a hardwire connection rather than wireless, if you unplug your computer from the router then it will reset what your computer (And thus your server) uses as a local IP address, which has also caused me problems. As an example if you previously set up a forwarded port on your router under the local IP of 192.168.1.112, following which you unplugged your hardwire connection and reconnected it would give you a new local IP. Ensure that the local IP you entered is the same as the computer you are using as a server.

Most routers when you enter your IP address into a browser will have a tab labeled video gaming or something along those lines, so it's kind of a pain because we probably have different routers, which means different configurations and layouts. Wherever you're port forwarding from there should be three things you enter: The name of the application (Not terribly important, just a label for future reference) , your local IP the server will be hosted on, and the port you use (In Starbound's case 21025 I think it is).

Your friends should be connecting to your server using your actual IP address, which can be found on websites such as "whatsmyip.org". Coincidentally this is also the IP you must type into your browser to access the configuration settings for your router to port forward.

Okay I understand but I need help with the "Global PortStart, Global PortEnd, and Base HostPort" part. I don't know what to enter for those.

Where at does it ask you to enter those? I've never needed to enter anything or even seen those labels before.

You should be able to find the model physically printed on your router. The brand, i.e. Netgear, D-Link, Linksys... Along with the model number (should be printed on a sticker).[DOUBLEPOST=1423014523][/DOUBLEPOST]
You can connect to your own server at 127.0.0.1 if you are running the server on the same machine you are playing the game. In my instance, I have a server set up at my house that hosts the game. I set a static IP based on the server MAC so the IP will never change even if I unplug my computer.

The IP you find by using whatismyip is not the same as you would enter to access your configuration. That is your public IP address that your device broadcasts to the world. You use that address for people to connect to the server. You type in (varies depending on the device model) 192.168.1.1 or some variation. The easiest way to tell the IP of you router is to look at what IP is set for your IPv4 Default Gateway in your Network Connections Details window.

I'm assuming that he is using his own computer as the host computer, considering he has not yet set one up before, I could be wrong. A static IP would be the best option, however this would over complicate and most likely just frustrate him.

And my public IP is what i've always used to access my router configuration, it works just fine even if it is not the intended method it is simply an easier and quick method of accessing your router settings. There are multiple ways to access the steps OP needs to set up his server, I would argue the fastest way to see your local IP would be to use the command prompt (Assuming you're using windows) and use the ipconfig command.

My brand is: Westell and the model number is A90-750018-07.
Yes, I use my own pc to host a server. It's not meant for a bunch of people, only me and a friend. But it's not LAN either.

Well I'll be honest I have no idea

Try just entering 21025 for every field, just do a bit of trial and error

I've tried that. My friends couldn't connect through my ip on whatismyip so I didn't give it to my friends. I gave them my other ips and they couldn't connect through those. Should I try to give them that IP instead?

Here's the thing you give your friends the IP on whatsmyip.

You don't give them any other IP, that's the only IP you give them. If they can't connect it isn't because you gave them the wrong IP. If you give them anything other than the one from the website I can guarantee 100% that they will NOT be able to connect. That being said, you have to find out how to properly port forward using your model of router. I do not have your type of router so it's up to you to research where you enter the info and what to enter.

If your friends can't connect it's either an issue regarding starbound being blocked, or you don't have the proper configuration on your router. Once again, the ONLY IP you give your friends is the one found on "whatsmyip.org". NOT your 192.168.1.xxx number. not the 127.0.0.1 number, just that one on the website.

Lets see if this will help. I dunno if you have, but here you is a guide on how to forward ports for your model of Westell specifically for Starbound. http://portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/Westell/A90-750018-07/Starbound.htm

If you plan on connecting to your own server, the IP is always 127.0.0.1 if the server is hosted on your computer. The "Whatismyip" IP is only for players who intend on joining your server.

Make sure that you open up port 21025 in your firewall if you have one. It might not be necessary but sometimes the firewall can cause problems.
