Think of a spear. This one will be held out in front of you as you run, dealing velocity-dependent damage. It points at your cursor to make precision-dropship-orbital-spearstrike attacks easier.
Now, I'm thinking this weapon would have a charge attack instead of a normal one. When you hold down the respective mouse button, a gauge begins to fill. Releasing sends the point of the spear flying out for extra damage, then pulled back in. Think slow, REALLY POWERFUL pneumatic drill. It deals damage also dependent on your velocity. More charge? More power. More speed? More power! More both? Tear through planets and enemies alike.

However, if you charge it past 100%... the catches are no longer enough to hold the spear inside the handle, and... PWOOMPH! Big puff of smoke, it goes flying and you've ruined a perfectly good spear. For you more devious readers... yes, it can be weaponised. Yes, it tears through enemies like a 500MPH solid unobtainium spear tears through enemies. Yes, on impact you can grab the spear and craft the two (and some metal or something) together into a working Pneumo-Spear. However, there's a 25% chance it works (doubled to 50 if it hits dirt or something soft, with an additional 5% for every enemy it passes through) a 50% chance it breaks and needs repairing before it can be shoved back into the handle and continue maiming enemies (halved to 25% if soft material, -5% chance for each enemy) and a 25% chance of it DISINTEGRATING and needing to be flat-out replaced. (reduced to 0% if it hits a soft mat, 5% chance of it simply breaking instead for each enemy) You can also create different varieties of spear head which do more damage and might alter breakchances? Don't know what the shinies are, so I can't tell you what they'd do.

This is Avian technology, closely guarded. To get schematics, either befriend the Avian colony (A LOT) murder them all and reverse-engineer one, or find a colony of the Grounded, who will probably be a lot more willing to share...

EDIT: Please post, this needs refinement.
