Plebians and Patricians: Personal Preference on Social Placement?

The Prompt
Hello everyone! Hypothetical situation - which may or may not require some thought - and is a little bit too immense for a poll. Upon creation of your Home world, obviously you're going to set some "rules" up, and establish government, along with social systems etc, etc. This will most likely be done in your imagination. You cheeky role-player, you.
In an ideal world, every race might be equal, and everyone would get along. HOWEVER - reality is far from ideal, and lets face it: people of every race, species, and sub-culture are jerks. You're a jerk. I'm a jerk. That old lady who sits on the bench at Maple Park and feeds birds might just be the biggest jerk of us all. So obviously, in a society of jerks, that whole "love and tolerance" thing that I'm sure plucky animated hoof-beasts somewhere are encouraging won't always work. There will almost ALWAYS be a social hierarchy, government approved or not.
My question to you, my wonderful friends, is...My aren't you looking nice today... in your "society" how will that hierarchy work? Or at least, how does it play out in your mind?

Things to Consider

• Just because you set up the society, does not necessarily mean your race has to be the top of the hierarchy. It makes a lot of sense, but if you want to be REALLY unique, you could come up with a reason for why it isn't. Example: You could be an Avian Captain who worked his way up in Human Society, and have claimed the land in their name.
  
  
• The hierarchy shouldn't necessarily just be a popularity game. Take a look at who contributes what to the society, and how the society values that particular service! You may have to begrudgingly put the Apex just a rung below you, or be surpassed by those fragile, smelly Humans, but if they contribute more in the eyes of your society as a whole...
  
  
• It's best to establish the society separately from the hierarchy first, so you can better accomplish the previous step. Unless of course you don't want to.
  
  
• FINALLY, and most importantly, have fun designing the social order! The point of this thread isn't to get you all in a war over whose race is the best, just to get you thinking and perhaps coax some interesting ideas out of you. If you want to get in depth about certain laws that affect the social order, go ahead. Make it a Caste system, rather than just a Social system, by all means. Do what you like to get your ideas out there, but please, no fighting over whose race/society is better!

Government? That's just made-up crap to do fool the population into thinking they are choosing, when politicians do whatever companies pay them for.

Everyone equal. And when something needs to be done, just use the communications system to organize it with whoever is interested. No hierarchies.

 

I can't agree with you. I think every community needs hierarchy. Like mine! Not to oppress people - to bring order to chaos (crap! I'm sound like Reaper from Mass Effect ). If there will be no hierarchy - everyone will want to be in charge.

So first thing first. I will need to establish govermant. Every race will have it's own representatives. If race is splited into factions - every faction will have it's own representative. But only, if factions are not friendly - to not destroy balance.

Terrains will not be splited between races/factions. Not friendly factions will be "forced" to work with opposite faction - under High Council supervision. It will bring elements of competition - and help common folks to know each other and see that e.g. not-so-zealot Avians are not that bad.

Defence Forces will include every race - for same reason.

So I would try to unite people of my planet.....to make this-time-will-work Utopia!

 

Pretty much this...except creatures I keep as pets will be slightly above the other NPCs

 

I'll set up a space-monarchy or a nasty totalitarian regime.

Then I'll join the inevitable revolution. There will be many passionate meetings in cafés, piles of anonymous anti-regime newspapers, hideouts on distant planets.

Imaginary revolutions are so romantic! Especially imaginary interstellar revolutions.

 

I'll only have robot, floran, and human NPCs on one of my main character's planets.

there shouldn't be a hierarchy when people know right from wrong. and if they don't, then i guess they should have cared enough read or ask about the Laws (server rules) then huh? (kick'em)

people can do things and think for themselves. you want to be an innovator? make an auto-farmer or something like that. be productive if you're going to be anything.


as for which races should be allowed in a certain town/area, that is totally up to the server owner or town owner.
but it's not like there should be laws that only apply to certain races right?

 

I'm afraid we are talking about setting up our own civilization on home planet (role-playing), not multiplayer server rules

It's still the same. I make buildings, NPCs are free to come and go.

 

Society on my home planet is small, but generally, those who contribute more to their villages are regarded better. Criminals are regarded as the lowest of the low, as only the worst offenses officially get you branded as a criminal [Light offenses such as petty theft and robbery are punished by beatings for the moderately petty to brief solitary confinement for crimes such as robbery]

Serious criminals such as serial murderers live in steep, inescapable pits. Children are often shown these pits as a caution against serious crime.

 

That's a bad idea. One day one kid escapes and there goes Gotham city.

 

Hmm. OR I'll have no law, and i'll don a batman costume at night and jump around screaming in the chat "IM BATMAAAAN"

 

Laws on my planet: Most people are test subjects. Florans, Avians, Hylotl and Glitch are automatically chosen to be test subjects. Criminals are demoted to 'Target Practice'. If test subject supply runs low, Humans and Apex will be tested on.
The MiniKnog can test on any race.

This is more the idea I had in mind. Much less a system of rules, and more role-playing and imagining a hierarchy - which every society DOES have, in some way shape or form - minimal impact or no.
