Question why on game support it tells you how to redeem other rewards for tier backers if that is not thing anymore or is it? I am confused.

 

You can't become a backer any more but those who were backers back then still are now and can still claim their backer rewards (as far as I know).

Not everyone chose to try out the game (or even follow its development) right away. I still see some people mention how they're waiting for release day (and have been since the beginning), which is totally fine. It's their choice. As far as I'm aware, no one was required to claim their rewards right after Starbound was funded on Kickstarter. However, for some of the rewards (custom weapon etc in game) I imagine that it would be harder to get such things added after the official release (that being said, if it does become an issue I'm sure Chucklefish would work something out).

The Solarium Tier items and such are going to be obtainable by everyone once they're in. So don't worry about that if that's why you're asking.

There was no such thing as a Starbound Kickstarter, unless you are referring to the Starbound plushie one (which failed...).

Starbound had a pre-order system, and people who bought larger and larger pre-order packages got more and more rewards for doing so, through the Humble Store.

 

You are correct, it was through the Humble Store (with stretch goals) and not Kickstarter, my bad.

It's a moot point as the OP can't become a backer now anyways.

 

Can confirm that the rewards for our backing will be available for everybody.

I think Lightning simply means you preordered the game. Maybe you got an extra thing or two there.

You'd know if you got one of the special design tiers, as they were quite expensive (Solarium was 1000$)
