Please? Don't know if anyone else is as bothered by it, and perhaps I'm being over sensitive, but I really really can't stand the injured dog sound some of the mobs make. *edits* It's more than "can't stand" it really makes me wince each time I hear it
Agreed, there are soo many possibilities when it comes to sounds, should be easily replaced. also not keen on the mob head that has 15 eyes.
I don't think changing that is necessary. Just means that some aliens have vocal cords that are a similar shape and size of a dog. Just as others seem to have vocal cords similar to horses or goats. Is hurting any of those animals any less wrong than another? Is hurting them more wrong than hurting an animal from another planet? At the end of the day, if you hurt an animal, it will make an unpleasant sound regardless of what species it is or planet it's from. If this bothers you, stick with eating plants, and be careful to avoid the more territorial / aggressive animals. That would probably work in-game, too!
That sound is just WAY too close to an actual hurt dog, and that's not a fun thing to listen to. As I said, I may be over-sensitive to it, but it is too realistic, and it takes the fun away.
well then dont kill it? where is the problem? if you need to eat, grow your food. if you need to farm pixel go underground and do it from the containers.
Sure thing! Soon as you tell me how I can tell by looking at a beastie that it's going to sound like a dog whimpering in pain. Or you know, you could just say you don't agree with my suggestion, rather than trying to make it sound like there's something wrong with me, or the way I play the game =)
i am not saying it is wrong how you play. i am showing you alternative playstyles to deal with your problem.
I feel like the sound is appropriate, because right now it's just too easy to go around mauling all the mobs on a planet without caring about them. A bit of guilt never hurt gaming.
I'd agree if it was actually a viable option - I can't tell which will make the sound by looking at them =) Haha! On one hand I agree with you, but I don't play like that anyway, I don't maul everything - I spend *so* much time making the ponds bigger so the fishy-beasties have a nice place to swim, and terraforming so the beasties all have a nice grassy area to pounce on me from =P
Steam > SteamApps > Common > StarBound > Assets > sfx > npc > angstyhead_small_death.wav (Third file) That is the sound i guess you refer to, which you could overwrite with any given other death sound (On the other hand, a puppy crying or a pig squeeling.. What is the difference? Let's ask ourselves that when we on christmas eve go "Nom nom nom" on alot of piglets.. As i dont assume there are alot of vegetarians in this thread)
Umm, because they asked? It's a suggestion in the suggestion forum. Cheers! I can do that - didn't think to look though and see if there was something as simple as that to do =) Thanks! =D (on the other note, I haven't yet heard a pig squealing noise that sounds like a pig in pain, just pigs squealing =) The dog one sounds like a hurt dog)
I think you took his reply a bit too personally: Conir wasn't saying there's anything wrong with anything, but simply suggested a playstyle that you might enjoy, based on your preferences you've expressed so far. What we were both saying is that which specific animal does or does not sound like a dog is moot - if you don't want to hear an injured animal noise, regardless of species, then don't attack animals. This is a sandbox game - there are tons of ways to play it, and that's as legitimate as any other, and could actually lead to some pretty fun and dynamic situations as you dig elaborate tunnels or use a jetpack to execute some impressive aerodynamics in order to avoid the local wildlife. That said, legnawodahs's solution should do the trick. I'd just copy the hurt/death sound of another animal, and rename the file angstyhead_small_death.wav, replacing the original angstyhead_small_death.wav. Or, look up a sound effect database from some other video game, and use the sound from there. In any case, it sounds like you have plenty options without needing to change the base game, so... win win. Happy gaming!
