So we all know that we have a way to capture indigionus animals of a planet and can then use them as pets but I think I speak for many when I say it would be nice to be able to have more than just one animal out at a time and to be able to create a zoo. The thing is that we already have 85% of the code structure to make this happen. All we need is a conversion station to convert the capture pod into a type of npc spawner so that it would be encoded with that animal's peramiters.
Sounds awesome! Turning captured creatures into non-hostile NPCs is certainly possible right now. We would only need what jgb_# mentioned, something to make that capture pod into a spawner pod. That creature could then go about the area spawned and behave a lot like a Melee guard.
i would say more than 85% is already done since we already have npc spawners and what not. all thats needed (perhaps already there) is that each animal has a code reference and that code would be saved for that specific spawner. after that the spawner will permanently stay there and spawn 1 of that creature for each spawner every time you visit so there's no despawning problems.
I think that something that could be implemented is Cages, so then you take a captured Pod, put it into a Cage, the Pod opens and the Creature hangs out in it. Of course, I would think that then the creature would be displayed and not able to be taken out of the cage, since the NPC movements and activity would be different in a cage. Maybe each string of numbers (or whatever represents the randomly generated creature) could be put in a Database in your Starbound folders, so then that creature's looks will be preserved allowing it to be configured in different ways, like being shown in the Capture Pod, in a Cage, and things of that nature. I don't know much about code, so this is all educated guesses.
I definitely agree with your suggestion, I am also hoping to be able to create a zoo at some point. I've been running around and collecting creatures I really like, but I want to be able to display them when I'm not having them follow me around .
Another thing that might work is to be able to place the Capture Pod on the ground after it is full, and have a holographic image of that creature pop out. That might just fix this all.. Hahaha
