Please, make normal version descriptions, remove Koala's
Please, remove all this Angry, Frustrated and other Koala's. Because of this hard to understand how work going and on what stage game now, its better just write number (like a 0.2.3 and so).
    Thank you!
    Best regards, Dmitriy.

Why the hell would we do that?

Its a funny, interesting way than to just show some numbers, and honestly, the versions wont be updated so often,so no real need to even memorize the name, realy.

You can perfectly see the version of the game,by simply launching it,no confusion there,so why change something that doesent realy afect anything?

Also, this should be in the sugestions section,no?

Knowing what numerical stage the game is at is the same as knowing what emotional animal it is.

Why the hell??? Because we must know how work goes! I dont understand what mean Angry Koala. But i understand what mean, for example, v.0.4.5 Its show how long time needed to release. It's show that developers understand their tasks, how much they must do and that they keep development under control. It is why the hell!

If you dont know what to say it's better just keep silent.

You really not see a difference? I feel sorry for you.

Angry Koala is just like the numerical system, only funnier.

The animal thing is stage. the build number is listed upon boot. Having what you are calling a version number would not really help in determining release, as that in itself is a bit skewed. The developers will not know when it will all be released untill they finish this and that and are content with releasing it to some degree.

So in essence, having a version number (which they practically do) does not say anything accept to know the linear progress they have made so far, not the closing in on release as if it were a deadline.

At least they have the build # listed so to know how updated we are, as well knowing how far along we have come.

Basically the Koalas separate stages of a phase. numbers do not do quite as well to separate that in this case. As all number for the most part look the same and can get confusing when we enter into stage 2. It is just like how sometimes can be confusing with minecraft 1.7.3 and 1.7.2 just going by the numbers you would think the former is after the latter which is not the case; it is in order, hence why they also name quite a few of their updates with a tag name. Just to differentiate between versions.

I don't see how Angry koala is like the numerical system. Angry koala doesn't tell me anything, it could be one of the first versions, or it could be the last one added.
Everything would be better if we had a proper numerical system.

Well it was once said they are laying the foundation for versions. The names & emotions once stage is complete they will start at the beginning. Don't know whom said it, as that was long ago in a thread that is probably locked or buried.

Either way it is how I see it; right now they are laying the foundation that what emotions we have now is the order in which it will come in as we go through each stage. So angry koala is not the first but I believe on of the first. Think there was ones before that. But they are making the order it is going to be in in the first stage, so they will be able to do the order in the later stages.

After all you need a foundation in order to start building upon it.

[IMG] Looking in the corner here, we've got the internal recordkeeping of Enraged Koala - Update 8, Protocol 643
Under assets, we see a release date of 20140424 (April 24th, 2014, for the recordkeeping illiterate) and a hexidecimal digest number of 2bf95bf6, in case the user actually follows the development closely enough to know what that means (I don't).

So, to an end user, the pertinent information is:
Beta, update 8 for this stage (that's actually what Enraged Koala means. Perturbed Koala was update 0 as far as I can tell. reference), released on 20140424.

That actually tells you a bit more than "beta 0.08.643" would tell you... but that's probably what this version would look like in standard developer parlance... either that or "beta 9.643" (assuming Perturbed Koala would be known as Beta 1 rather than an initial release of "update 0")

While I was adventuring through space, I couldn't help but notice that, on asteroid fields, gravity still pulls the player down towards the "bottom" of the asteroid field. I wondered if this would be altered later on because there should not really be gravity in the middle of space. Just a thought. :cautious:

Anything with mass creates gravity,no matter as small, though incredibly dense rocks like meteorites would make a decent amount.

But to be honest, that would make gameplay in Aterioids a tad strange,no?You would never be able to go down, and the sateriod field would be infinite.Bad stuff.

Gameplay over reality and honestly,WAY out topic, cmon.

True, true. The gameplay would be really strange. I guess I'll just have to deal with falling to my death all the time in asteroid fields...

So, you think that in Terraria, for example, we had a "hard to understanding" build system? You cant understand 0.8.7, 1.0.2 and s.o.? My whole life in all games i seen exactly the same numerical system, and i dont had any troubles with understanding. But with, how to say?..., animals system D: i have some troubles. And you write that in corner we can see some numbers. Ok, but what the numbers? Serial number of last update? Ok, it's not bad. But it's should be additional information to numerical build system.

So, you think that developers don't have vision of their completed game? That they just doing something, and in any moment, in instant, they can say - "hey, friends, it's Starbound, we finished it" or "ok, we finished 1-st stage", yes? I think that thinking so you insult the developers. I think that they must have and actually have the vision of their complete game. And if no, then it's very sad.
And i don't think that in this names we see many fun. It's not object for jokes. We must somehow see how development goes. If they dont want make a numerical system, then may be it's better make something like Roadmap for every stage of development? And if it will be so, then, ok, it can be and Koalas, and Elephants, and even Skunks with different adjectives.

What on earth are you on my russian friend?Cause you got your undewear in quite a twist for some harmless names.

Listen,if you dont feel its funny, thats fine,if you feel its inadequate, thats fine aswell,if you cant understand it,try to understand, and if you start such a huge thiing ovr a name, then what the hey, maybe you should stop,eh?

I think this is a legit complaint. However, I like the silly names. Therefore, they should do both, like <version number> <version nickname>.
