On its steam release (July-August), and then >a month or so ago when it was on sale.

  4. That's a lot more recent than when it was started. Now, if those were the only times it was really advertised by the devs, anyone who joined before that really just got here on their own will; I don't think they have the right to complain that the game isn't released. Kind of like visiting a friend's house without that friend's consent and expecting them to feed you snacks right away. Now those who joined after said advertisement, calm your undies, it's only been a few months, geez.

As for the wanderlust advertisement, I'll have to see it myself when I get back home.

Hey don't look at me, I'm pretty much expecting it in Jan-Feb or something anyway, since that's what's currently on their site. If it gets released before the new year, all the better though :catface2:

  6. I wasn't looking at anyone specific, just to the general "omg release the kraken nowwww" people

The entire thread could be renamed 'First World Problems' ;)

I don't get why anyone would be fretting about this. It's not healthy to invest so much energy into a game that isn't even released yet that it causes you issues (unless, of course, you are part of the development team!)

Kinda defeats the whole purpose of 'game'. By all means, poke around the forums, have fun speculating and making fan art and stuffs. But if waiting for this game is causing any kind of actual stress, I think it's time to go do something else for a while o_O

I didnt know that. All I know is what I read NOW. and it says December / Jan. Which is obviously wrong, in fact a recent blog categorically states "We do not know" so do you think its still proper for them to keep such contradictory information online? How would you say that assists their cause?

And while giving a date and then changing was unnaceptable back in the days of Halflife 2, it is in fact the norm now. Yes, it is far better to give or even an estimation, and then change it!, than to just say "*shugs* dunno" because that attitude will lead false conclusions.

You see, people can understand multiple reasons for a delay, new features, game destoying bugs, illness, economy to name but a few. But there are very few reasons people will believe "We dont know" if you know anything about the human psyche you know that it cannot process null-information, and will fill that void with imaginary information in order to draw some kind of conclusion that will help it make a decision.

In my case, the decision was that Starbound wont be out soon, and when it does come out I will already be emotionally and fianncially invested in other products.

If thats MY conclusion, then it must also be someone elses conclusion.... and people who havnt made a decision yet will easily adopt a well reasoned opinion like mine.

Most likely they forgot to update whatever thread you found the Dec/Jan info on, in which case you would be better off telling them about it than complaining here.

If they say they don't know and you draw a conclusion from that, then that is at best just your opinion and at worst just you making stuff up.

This is one of the things patience is for. "Filling the void with imaginary information" is your own fault, not the developers for not knowing exactly when they will be done.

That's what you are supposed to do, its called "Doing stuff in the mean time".

Or they could say that they are patient enough to not need a possibly constantly changing release date to look forward to.

I would rather wait for a solid, optimised, fully featured release rather than one that's lacking in features/content and buggy.

Just think of all those times that you bought a game, and it was nigh-unplayable due to the game-breaking bugs and unfinished feel of them. Case in point, Vampire The Masquerade: Bloodlines, a AAA release title that had so many game-breaking bugs on release it wasn't even funny, and failed financially despite having the potential to be a true classic (and only years after release, made more or less playable thanks to community patches).

That is what will happen if the devs release the game before its ready. Playable =/= complete. Let the devs finish the game in their own time, and meanwhile there are plenty of other games and distractions to tide you over.
