    Not totally unreliable

Of course. People will get over exited though - they will read what they want to read.
I'm not putting my hopes on any of the dates. It's done when it's done.

  4. Yep, kind of the same result that happened in Terraria. They expected a final bugfix. They get a release on console. Batshit happened.
And in addition to that, Redigit never mentioned anything about releasing the final bugfix during that time. [I still don't think he'll ever release it]
Ugh, it's the people that's the problem here.

So remember, kids. Hope for the best, expect the worst. Getting something better than what you've expected is a really really REALLY great feeling. And that will almost always happen when you expect the worst, and not the best. You also won't get disappointed as much if your expectations come true.

It will come out when it comes out. If we rush them then we'll just get another crappy game. I say take as long as you want Chucklefish I'll be there to buy it once you release it. -picks up a novel and waits-

Seeing as everyone is insanely excited and Chucklefish has complete control over making the game arse or not, OUR LIVES ARE IN THEIR HANDS.

I can understand the annoyance at these threads, but frankly there's no reason to be so hostile, especially if they annoy you. The fewer people that post, the less it gets bumped, the quicker it goes away. If you don't like them, don't post in them.

That being said, the OP was polite and the title was neither whingy nor snobby. Just a plea for the game to be out in time for the holidays, which is something I can get behind. Just because a game is in beta longer doesn't necessarily mean that it will be better because of it. In this case, I do believe chucklefish know what they are doing, but look at cortex commander and chivlary medival warfare. CC has been in development for some 10 years or so, but still came out with relatively few features and chief issue amongst them in the eyes of many, was no online multiplayer, local only. Chiv is still plagued with balance issues and has its fair share of bugs with little additions compared to the original mod.

More time spent in beta =/= Better product. It comes down to how you use that time. And before people start grabbing their torches and pitchforks, I am not implying anything about chucklefish's development process here. We can only tell how effective their methods have been once the game has launched, and that's the end of it.

Honestly its more than he asked almost the exact same thing twice that annoyed me. Its not like the answer is gonna change if you ask again.

Okay, I get the "don't post if you don't want them to stay on the first page i.e. DIE" school of thought, and I certainly wish threads like this one would do exactly that and go off themselves, but that isn't going to happen as long as there are people who agree and continue to agree. If they aren't convinced to drop it, they'll keep banging on about it. And dropping out of the conversation entirely only creates the lopsided feedback that causes terrible things to happen. People have to voice the opposite opinion, or else it falls to the vocal minority to dictate our affairs. I think it's good that people keep replying as long as people keep bringing the subject up, though the hostility may be on the excessive side.

Also, going on the same train of thought as the CC mention, the footage I've seen of Starbound gameplay so far reminds me of CC insofar as it's lacking things that would truly engage me in the gameplay. The game doesn't look done, and that's not necessarily a bad thing, as that means that that impression that I have will not necessarily be there down the road.

I'd like the game to be released as soon as possible, but I know I don't want a game that's ultimately unfinished and incapable of satisfying the interest I've had in it for so long. I can afford to wait a little longer for Chucklefish to get what they want done done before they toss Starbound out into the harsh world of gamer criticism.

I did not mean to scare anyone, just to share my confusion... Which should be fine... Right?

I have kinda been waiting for a definite release date but to me it seems like there won't be one even when the game is out, so I don't have release expectations.

They have no definite release but they have at least a couple times pointed out they are shooting for this year. Most gaming sites put up overly generous estimates on ETAs.

Yeah, I can understand this. Although what I didn't know before was that gaming sites could put up estimates without being sure. That's where my confusion came from.

Since when is 6 months a long time to wait for a game to release? There are plenty of things to do while developers work towards releasing a product that's actually finished. Heck, maybe you could even play a different game!

  20. As long as the development time is well-used (which it is), I don't really care when it comes out, as long as it does before I die. ;)
