First release date was only "expectation and speculation", the speculation was; around summer 2012.
The link below shows a trace of this speculation, which later passed on to not become possible.

It passed on to become "expectation and speculation" once again, and it currently stands on; by the end of 2012.

Today I accidently stumbled across another random source saying that the release date is May 2013. Just as if it's been etched in stone. Which seems very strange as there is no definite release date yet from what I'm aware of.

Bah. Gamespot (i think it was) had the release date pinned at late Q3 last year. Random release dates found on sites such as, in this case, gamepressure without word from the developers to the community is at best very rough guestimations or just outright fabrications.

Not really a suggestion, though? Moved

Also, never rely on 3rd party listed release dates, most may not bother updating, even more so with major sites that have thousands of titles listed.

  6. I'm also impatient, but I'm hoping for a 2015 release o3o

That doesn't matter, they still have no obligation to any of you. you guys have paid no money towards the game. you guys have not helped with the development. you guys have put nothing in as of yet so you can't really expect anything out whenever you want it.

Their game, their development plan, their choice, your purchase(or not) whenever they decide it comes out.

I would rather have a finished game, or a late beta. Like Minecraft's 1.7+ stages of beta.

Personally, I'm estimating February 2013. Just my feelings on it. I would be excited if it comes out for Christmas cause then I can be like: "MERRY CHRISTMAS PEOPLE" and buy a bunch of friends it as well, but so far I think the Devs want to get the game as complete and polished as they can before releasing, since they are still coding some of the root mechanics and stuff I'm sure.

So yeah. I'm getting kinda sick of seeing these threads as well. You waited this long, you can wait a few more months. I'd much prefer a finished product, even though Minecraft is an awesome game, it was kinda boring as heck when it first released for Alpha, even now it's not much better unless you mod it, and even if you mod it you have to update and change those mods every couple months. So I'd really rather have a game that's not going to be constantly adding in many more core gameplay mechanics, and has it all in it already. Though I do understand they are going to be updated regularly and adding stuff in, I doubt it'll be a drastic change to any of the core stuff.

As Bombzero said. They have no obligation whatsoever, to release the game early just cause people want it to be released early.

Yes. Minecraft released in Alpha. GUESS WHAT. This isn't bloody Minecraft. This has more gameplay and story then just mining and building stuff.

So let the Dev's do their jobs, the game is going to be awesome and if you can't wait for the game to release in the time they want to take to finish it, then find a different game with a definitive release date to watch.

    Seems legit. :yeahhhh:

I wouldn't trust any word other than those of the developers. Unless you have a proper source stating that "Tiy said this in that interview" or "Rho stated this in the IRC" etc., then please don't post this nonsense and scaring other forum-goers.

Even if the game was done and they released it before the end of the year, it could have game breaking bugs, which they wouldn't be able to fix, because of christmas.
That would be a disaster. Just calm down and wait, this is the final stretch!

Indeed. I played Minecraft a bit in Alpha and quickly got bored of it way before it's official release - because it was in Alpha. I didn't feel like there was much to do. There's a ton of improvements to Minecraft now, but getting bored of the game during Alpha left a bad taste in my mouth. Wouldn't want the same to happen with Starbound.

I'm kinda glad they don't have an open beta. I've played games in closed/open beta before - Spiral Knights I played in closed beta for over a year before it's final launch. By then I needed a break! I haven't played as much since release as it just wasn't fresh any more (although now they've added a bunch of stuff I'm playing again) It's much more fun to be able to dive in with a (mostly) finished product.

As for release date - OMG have some patience people! If waiting for Starbound is really eating you up so much, maybe you need to get out more.

No one said they have any obligations so why do you say that? OP wrote only about his hopes concerning the game's release, so this harsh tone is a little over the top (and silly as well I must say).

Then don't read them and you will avoid frustration. Not trying to be rude as well.

I think it would have been best if Tiy had just said "When it's done," instead of giving his estimates about summer/december/early january releases. But he didn't, so people are getting a little over-exited when the time nears. That's good though, it translates into many first day buyers
