They should track OPs ip, stalk him through steam and send out an update just for him to replace every npc, character model, item, block and furniture pieces with assorted pets.

    But in all seriousness,
Bruh. If you don't want a pet, kill it. Get rid of it. Done. Problem solved. No need to throw a caps lock fit about it.

I have heard a number of people mention that ship pets cant die.

Where did you guys get that information? I cant find it anywhere.

Normal weapons don't kill NPC's on the ship but splash damage weapons do so some of the staves and the rocketlaunchers and grenade launchers Can kill on a ship

Or lava or aloot of other things.

But the people saying that they cant die seems to imply that they cant die from anything.

    Somehow I doubt that.

I don't understand why anyone wouldn't want a pet. I'm sure you could just put them in a capture pod like you can with the cat we have now.:kitten:

I agree..pets would be cool but I personally don't like having a set requirement for certain things

idk they seem really cool though

So, the only concerns I have about this are that we seem to be promoting eugenics and/or the disposal of pets that don't meet the requisite amount of "cute". What happens to the ugly pets?! Are they doomed to be discarded onto random planets, forever searching for a master that can look past their physical appearance to see their true character?

While I personally like the idea of having a pet, I do think it should be a choice.

    OP's presentation is ..obnoxious.

    But...

Pet's are more fun as an option--Because that makes them another goal to set for yourself.
Another thing you collect for your ship or home to put your own signature on it.
Side quests, little goals, self-set achievements---these are tings that keep sandbox style games interesting.

It's part of why I loathe the removal of the survival mechanics, as that eliminates the personal goal of overcoming the
elements. the personal goal of conquering your environment, the personal goal of teching up to explore
progressively more hostile planets, the motivation to farm and play with all the new foods.

All gone. And as a result? The universe feels.. quieter. Less hostile. Less engaging. And that is simply from less to do!

Starting with a pet eliminates that personal goal of finding your own companion, and the randomness of what sort of creature you might end up with or grow a bond to. It strips you of that personal goal and the 'magic' of that experience.

When it's first implemented it might be ok for us to start with them, for testing purposes, but should not be a permanent state of affairs.

First of all the dev's in the latest news update for the next update, they never said that pets were mandatory... And I doubt that they would make the pets mandatory. Also if you don't want a pet and lets say they do make it mandatory then you can just request a mod to be made to remove them from being mandatory, and depending on the way they do it, you could probably remove the pet from your inventory, with an inventory editor, because there are slots for the pets in the current player inventory GUI.

You know what? Even if they make it so you can easily kill your pets, you know what? I SHOULD NOT HAVE TO MAKE THAT CHOICE. I shouldn't have to choose between having a pet I don't want and murdering said pet like some kind of monster. I should be allowed to just not have a pet. Why is that such a difficult concept to grasp? Why is letting a simple decision actually be MY decision such a wild concept to you people?

It's a pet. Less than a hundred pixels. It's insignificant. Honestly, hardly anyone gives a shit about whether they're mandatory or not. Some people state they don't want pets, but nobody else is getting as worked up about it and yelling in caps. Kill it. Blow it up. It's not alive, you probably have the chance to respawn it. Don't go having moral crisises about getting rid of a bunch of pixels and an easily retrievable AI.

Also, nobody has fucking said they were mandatory. There's probably gonna be an option to get rid of them or not have them when they improve the system. It's still early in the development of the pet system. Things change, so calm your tits.

I think a few people in this thread need to start calming down and read a good book, before I start handing out warnings like girl scouts do cookies.
    =
Now speaking of cookies and books I recommend "If you give a mouse a cookie"

    1. To help calm certain people down
    2. It gives you basic idea what happens when you start giving options

Moral of the story is - you start giving away options, you will just end up having a game with a million options. Sometimes it is better just to ignore certain features as it will do no harm by having it around
