Just for the record, this kinda thing is actually caused by global warming. The ice caps are melting, which puts cold water and chunks of ice into the ocean currents, which affects the jet stream and results in more extreme temperatures and weather all around.

So less "global warming my ass!" And more "fucking global warming."

And yes, screw our winter this year. I'm about 4 hours north of the Twin Cities and my job involves shoveling all the walkways around a mall.

I'm so ready for things to melt.

Yeah, most people don't actually understand what global warming is.. I guess it doesn't help that it is called "global warming" though.

Global warming is caused by conspiracy theorists, but we can prevent it by wearing tinfoil hats!

In the twin cities, there have been 5 school closings due to the extreme cold. While we are not Siberia, it is one of the "real" Minnesota winters that, I assume, other states of the union assume the winters here are supposed to be. Them kids won't be happy when they don't get out of school until mid-June.
Yeah, I figured someone would correct me in my global warming curse, but really I have just been repeating a common phrase among co-workers and friends these past months. I really don't know any of the science behind it all, and don't really care, mostly cuz I can't do anything about it.

Anyways, before this topic strays too far from the OP, I just want to add that I can sympathize with the anticipation, but, as I've said in a few other posts, I am totally fine with waiting as long as it takes to make a quality product. I've waited for this game for some time, and I am happy enough with how it's turned out. There are still some things that I learn along the way, new variations on the "same thing, different colors" that can surprise me, and am still very much optimistic in the content to come. Also, I've still played 80% single player, so when they make the multi-player experience (with strangers, that is) a bit more secure, I know it's going to be an entirely separate experience to behold.

    Patience!

They kept their promise... to the southern hemisphere :D

At least Starbound's dev is more communicative and regular than the other early-access game I'm following, Cube World.

To be fair, Starbound has a development team. Wollay is just.. Wollay. Sure you could argue that he has his wife helping him but in his eyes spending a day of free time working on the game is better than spending a day on twitter.
Not everyone would agree with him, but I much prefer it that way if we ever want to see Cube World finished.

do you remember in the 70's when the big scare was "global cooling"?

i didnt think so, but it was.

Global cooling never had scientific support. Here's an article about that. For the cliff notes version just skip to page 9 and look at the charts.

Even in the seventies the vast majority of the scientific community (that cared at all) was writing about global warming happening due to an increase in greenhouse gasses. This has remained consistent for the last fourty-four years, with more and more climate scientists agreeing with global warming.

The only disagreements are held by a very small minority of the scientific community, most of which is being paid directly by oil and current power companies with a monied interest in fighting 'green' alternatives.

Surveys show a 95-97% agreement amongst climate scientists that global warming IS happening, and 95% are currently writing/publishing papers on its effects.

So. . . there's really no comparison at all.

  10. Sorry! Best we can do is tell you that it'll be ready when it's ready. We're terrible at estimations, as others have pointed out. :p
