Please? Can we all just stop?

I've been on this forum more or less since it started, and trust me, there have always been "When will this game come out" topics. However, these seem to be increasing in number significantly over the last month or so. And I know, we're all excited to get the game, but what good is sitting there and talking about it endlessly going to do? Other than clutter up the forum, of course. I personally think all o these threads are rather pointless, and I am asking you kindly. Can we try to reduce the amount of these? I don't want to make it seem like we're rushing the Devs, but have we already sent that message? I mean, the sheer number of these threads is incredible... I'm not a particularly patient person, but these are starting to get out of hand. Does anybody agree with me? Or an I alone on this one?

 

Why is not out?! ARHAHAHGHAAAAARGH- Just kidding, people just need to be patient. You either cook your food at high heat and burn it, or you let it slowly cook to perfection.

 

I totally agree, I'm starting to run out of witty replies to post on each one.

 

Mmm.. No. Here's why. They said they expect starbound to be done by the end of the year, it's taking a bit longer (not an issue, not bashing them for giving an estimate, just read on), They said make this year the year of starbound. These comments are fine and dandy, i'm not angry for missing an estimate. I'd rather have one missed than never given one. The reason they keep coming up is because when an estimate is lapsed people assume it's nearing completion. People get unruly when they feel it's nearing completion and no one says a word about what is yet to be finished so we can have the game. It makes people wonder what is going on. It makes us wonder if something went wrong. It makes us wonder if we will be getting to play this awesome looking game soon or if we have to wait a few weeks, or months.

In the end, Missed estimated release followed by silence = unrest.

As more people continuously join our forums, questions and topics will start repeating themselves. Some users will check the search box and find already existing threads, while others will skip this step altogether and go right ahead to creating another topic. Nevertheless, the automatic function that suggests an already existing thread once you start typing the title of your own should help reduce the amount of duplicates. (It's a very nice addition )

Also, the forums are here so we can talk about Starbound and its related topics. People enjoy doing it, it's stimulating and engaging to chat with someone who shares similar interests.

What I believe we should do in terms of finding a duplicate topic is merely point to person in the right direction, perhaps even providing a link to the already existing thread, rather than being aggressive towards them.

 

This actually makes a lot of sense. We don't have a "look forward to" time right now. They said early 2013 but that could be anything from tomorrow to June. So I understand the mentality that keeps asking.

 

What people don't understand is they ne'er said explicitly expect it. There was never a guarantee. And the silence is because they're all working night and day to get this game out ASAP. They're working hard enough, I don't want them to be more rushed then they already are. I think people need to stop pushing then for release.

 

To tackle the first part, it's not about guarantees, it's about perception. When they say by the end of the year, then in the beginning of the next year they make the hype-building comment about making this year starbound's year we perceive the game being finished or near to it. So when this perception is not met with release or any words mentioning what's going on regarding it people wonder. This being the official forums they express that wonder here.

The second part i understand they are working. It doesn't take but a minute to let their community know what's up. If they truly were SO busy that they couldn't even squeeze out a word or two for the community their twitters and forum appearances would both be completely still.

 

Unfortunately, no matter what you say or do there will always be people don't care and/or just want there post to be noticed by making a topic that attracts attention. I haven't actually had an account for to long, but i have been lurking for a while and I have seen a ton of them and they always get attention. The best way to get them to stop is to just ignore it, I believe that if one post get's no attention then people will see it would be pointless to make another. I probably messed up my grammar so bad in that paragraph.

 

Yeah, I agree. And dude, if you're a non-native English speaker, good job! Your spelling and grammar were better than many people I know in real life... Haha

 

Lusid explained it fairly well, I'm going to go one further. All we've got is a big list of announces game features, that Tiy has even said is subject to change. We haven't a clue how many of those features are complete or even the progress for these features. As Lusid said, we were given an estimate, then that estimate was lapsed. So people who are lacking the information concerning how complete the game really is are assuming it will come out soon.

I don't blame them for making those threads seeing as we really have no idea how complete the game is, all we know is they're having a closed beta that's, as Tiy put it "playable". That a closed beta is being run suggests a release date in the near future, and so these people make a thread in the hopes they'll be given a firm release date or at least some information concerning how close the game really is to being released.

Sadly however, they're met with "OMG just be patient, I've been on the forums since..." Which isn't helpful in the slightest and frankly just rude.

 

I hate to break it for ya, but this thread isn't going to stop the incoming waves of impatient little kids from creating new threads of the topic "AMG WEN IZ STARBOUND OUTZ???"

It's the sad truth.

 

There are two things certain to be repeated on these forums,
The "When will the game be released" threads, and the "Stop making those threads" threads.
It's really kind of ironic to me.

 

This is for the developers:
Dudes... You all form an amazing team together.
Even though I could explode any second due my increasing levels of excitement, I ask you, please, take all your time to correctly finish this awesome piece of epicness that we call Starbound. Just ignore all those posts like "AMG WEN IZ STARBOUND OUTZ???"! I know you can The game will be ready when it's ready. Keep up the chocolaticoolgood work!

For now I'll carry on, trying not to blow up into pieces every time I see a new picture or read about another wonderful feature.

 

I honestly don't know why you two are defending them. They're doing that they want to, and that's enough to satisfy me. I see no valid reason to make a thread like "OMG OMG WHEN WIL DIS GAME BE OOUT!?!?!?!?!!!" It'll be ready when it's ready. And making those threads isn't going to change anything either.

 

I could say the same about threads that complain about those people. You realize you're doing the exact same thing just from a different standpoint right?

 

Making THESE threads isn't going to change anything either.
The difference is people can have fun making those threads, sometimes it could spawn a nice discussion,
No it can't because everyone just tells them not to do it.

You're making a big deal of something small because you think people are going to listen to you
That's exactly what they're doing, so you're no better.
