Hey guys I am playing Starbound for the first time! I would love for you to join me and check out my videos! Episode 1: Episode 2:
Play permadeath man, you will love it and hate it! Mostly hate it if you die and force yourself to play other races, especially if you grow attach to your characters. If this is the only videos so far, keep up the good work. I am happy you found out about the vines that had plant fiber. Further advice to harvest things quicker, just use the interact button "e" while having the cursor on the crop, as well as your character being right next to it. This applies to doors, workbenches, etc. Especially if you are compact for space and you put everything stacked together or next to each other when just only pressing the 'e' key would confuse things.
Oh my gosh THANK YOU! hahaha And I am going to try Permadeath once I understand the game more and have experienced it for a while.
Congrats on surviving episode 2. If all else fails you jet! Never take on something you can't kill. No shame in survival, no shame in death... But for the player there is so much regret if you lose your stuff, or for permadeath everything. I can see you grow attach to your Glitch, which is probably why you chose it. Word of advice, every 4 vines make a bandage. Easy to craft without a table. Good luck playing permadeath. P.S. I edited this comment because I failed to watch the fully video--at the time I was rushed to go somewhere elsewhere. But since you were in your ship already, you could have just made a bed to heal, in which you can save your bandages for later. I always save them whenever I am out on the field, but whenever I can make a bed I will. Plus, I highly suggest you go vegetarian as well. Plant your wheat and you will find it very beneficial for your health (>_o).
It is funny how you compare Starbound to Minecraft (MC). Yes, it is different at times, but when it comes to basics it is pretty similar, especially when it comes to digging... So it pains me to ask this but did you ever thought about building a pickax? I ask this because from the slow usage of your matter manipulator, it does seem that you know. LOL. And like MC, there is also an ax for wood, and a hoe. You got the survival aspect down when you decided to place your melee weapon, range weapon, flashlight, matter manipulator, and torches in the left hand slots (1-5), because you would need quick access to them when you are in a pinch. However, it does scare me that you decide to run around with minimal health. You will get slaughtered if you ever engaged something that is stronger than you at minimal health. When this happens and you happen to be barely alive, you panic. Never panic, otherwise, that beloved character of a Glitch... Let us just say that my most favorite of the races I started out with was a Glitch (sniff). He died from falling... So yes you can die from fall damage. I am happy that when you go down hills, you are careful and meticulous, especially since you may never know what you will encounter beyond your screen of vision. Good luck using the distress signal . I used it because I thought it would bring me a crew or something ship to help me out. BY the way, did you make a house underground yet? You should be a hobbit.
Same thing here I thought that the signal would help! And yes I now have a pickaxe and other tools which you will see in the next episode haha And you are right I do need to heal up more! Thanks for your continued support!
Hey, just a tip, You might wanna open your crafting table and look at EVERY THING there. You might find something that will give you a little "boost" to your slow go-ing start. *hint hint* It's something that both Minecraft and Terraria both share -The Milkman
I will most definitely take a look! Yeah I feel like I am starting off a bit slower than most at this.
Cobblestone brick? YEAH! That will boost your defenses for a while. LOL. Don't feel bad. At least you haven't died. This is good. Although you may have already done this already, and no I am not talking about the iconic tool in Minecraft (*hint hint*), but a bed whenever you can rest will heal you. You seem low on bandages and granted plant fibers are scarce sometimes, since so far that I know you can't regrow them from vines, but you can farm them from crops. As for the UFO, yes my reaction was just the same. When I did it I was like, damn why did I get a little damage? *UFO COMES IN* WTF!? I was happy you retreated into a hole in the ground. I thought you would have gotten the hint from my last post, but obviously your wit and instincts led you to safety. Plus I give you props for taking those penguins head on with just a speck of health. I was a coward to hide behind the use of blocks and materials, but granted it is a good strategy to have at least some blocks on your slots in case you need to block heavy fire--this comes in handy with hostile NPCs or monsters. Needless to say, when you do defeat the UFO, I will tell you a funny story how I defeated it, because I don't want to take away the excitement from you. You are doing good man, I am on the edge of my seat whenever I watch your vids, because watching a newb is always funny, but watching a newb that is smart and tries hard is admirable.
Really? Okay, I am going to start building a house on the planet's surface so I have somewhere to retreat to! I am glad you are enjoying my videos! The U.F.O. scared the crap outta me haha. But later on you'll see what happens regarding that!
Couple Tips: 1. Fall damage depends on the planets gravity. Try jumping off a really high cliff 2. On your hotbar, the L and R areas are actually slots too! Say you press 1, and equip your tool in slot 1, and then press it again. now you are using the L and R slots. Put weapons and 1 handed things there, such as a hunting knife and a flashlight! 3. Have fun with that distress beacon! 4. You only need to make 1 pickaxe of each type. Once you start using it, you will see it's durability. But if it ever starts getting low, you may repair it by picking up some of the material used to make it, and right click on the tool! (E.G. You have a stone pickaxe, so if the durability gets low, click on some stone in your inv, drag it over to the pickaxe, and right click) 5. Read the description of coal a couple times. And then think about the parts of your ship. (especially the captains chair) 6. Lastly, you will find out what that bar that comes out at night really means when you let it get to the lower levels. Can't wait for le next episode! -The Milkman
Thanks a bunch! I record these videos a few days ahead of time so that I always have one ready! But these will be implemented soon!
