Not really protesting, but I really cannot pass up a chance to alliterate. Anyhoo, anyone else feel that the prices of the objects, created by/when purchasing the pixel printer are a little... incredibly high? If I wanted to background a small structure with wall panels, it'd cost right around 20k pixels or so, considering it's 200 per 4 block basic square.
I feel that they're too expensive, yes, but I also think that the problem is the underlying pixel system, which isn't very fun. I think pixels need to be revised somehow. EDIT: I posted a suggestion for a possible fix to the pixel system here.
but thats the point in the game when bases are the least useful. early game having a nice looking home that you keep building onto ay you progress is how i roll, so having to pay large amounts of pixels to make my house look better than a cave is high priority, slowing my equipment progressions.
I think of basically everything you build with pixels as a vanity item (except a few tool exceptions etc) Not really important in the scheme of things. Don't you ever jump planets, I do that constantly. In order to actually progress you have to do that.
I think the prices are fine for now, considering you can find all the building blocks there in other installations on various planets for free. The refinery yields tens of thousands of pixels for ore that you no longer need, so late game you can bypass the cost grind once you're far enough into progression. If all else fails, a mod to make everything free will surely be made.
while yes they are all vanity items, that its not being important is not true. building is a massive part of this game. the entire 2D environment with a second 2D off set layer is here for exactly that reason. infact this is a "building and exploration game with survival elements" i enjoy the building elements, some of my friends enjoy the exploration elements. its much more convenient to share resources between members of the group, and doing that in a nice environment is beneficial to mood and for entertainment purposes. it allows us to display objects so we can hear what our characters have to say about things, it gives us a place to show off our new gear play instruments together... almost every day. but each time we move i build a new unique base which continues the above for more convenient locations but still allows us to go "lets group up meet me at "X" " and everyone knows how to get there and can either choose to take there own ship or beam to a party members ship above that location
Actually it is a sandbox action rpg/exploration/Fighting game. Building isn't even a selling point. http://playstarbound.com/about/ Of course you can build as a distraction, but the main draw of this game is the adventure and exploration and fighting aspects.
Not really a main selling point. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- We’re Chucklefish, a studio working on our first project – an extraterrestrial sandbox adventure game called Starbound. <-- genre In Starbound, you take on the role of a character who’s just fled from their home planet, only to crash-land on another. From there you’ll embark on a quest to survive, discover, explore and fight your way across an infinite universe. <-- fight/explore charactersYou’ll encounter procedurally generated creatures and weapons, discover populated villages and abandoned temples. Explore planets dotted with dungeons, eyeball trees and treasure. <--( look explore again) Make use of over a hundred materials and over one thousand in-game objects to build a sprawling modern metropolis or a sleepy secluded cabin in the woods, and do all of it alone or with friends! <-- building is litterally 1 sentance. Starbound lets you live out your own story of space exploration, discovery and adventure. Settle down and farm the land, hop from planet to planet claiming resources, or make regular visits to populated settlements, taking on jobs and earning a living. NPCs are scattered about the worlds, offering quests and challenges for those looking for a little extra excitement in their lives. <-- look more exloring and rpg elements
"sandbox adventure" is open to interpretation to its meaning. I see adventure as "doing something few can say they have done" fist line (fight/explore) your statement is true, but only one line about each of those things then its info about the fact there game is randomly generated fallowed by your pointed out sentence of "Explore planets dotted with dungeons, eyeball trees and treasure." out of context this one sentence does say "exploration" but its not out of context, its in a paragraph meaning there is no change in subject so when added to the whole paragraph characters You’ll encounter procedurally generated creatures and weapons, discover populated villages and abandoned temples. Explore planets dotted with dungeons, eyeball trees and treasure. Make use of over a hundred materials and over one thousand in-game objects to build a sprawling modern metropolis or a sleepy secluded cabin in the woods, and do all of it alone or with friends! it reads "look at our random environments. come see unusual levels/materials. then use them to build, alone or with friends" and since you seemed to overlook in the last paragraph " Settle down and farm the land," also has building in it "hop from planet to planet claiming resources" could go to either of our arguments because what are you going to do with these resources? surely they are not refrenceing exclusivly weapons, pix, and crafting materials. but since we are getting off topic i would like to reintroduce the question a different way. since me obtaining more materials with which to play my desired way of playing, with out providing me any benefit other than having a nice looking home, how would that affect your game play/enjoyment of features when this is (from the looks of your arguments so far) a portion of the game you have decided is not for you? have you even used the device?
Different strokes for different folks. Either way the game should be fun for EVERYBODY. Also you ignored "Starbound lets you live out your own story of space exploration, discovery and adventure."
Good news, everyone! The recipes are in their own directory in your starbound assets recipes folder. you can change them to be whatever you want.
