I saw somewhere on here that you were going to have the different races have different pros and cons. I think it would be cool if one of these pro/cons would be different sized races. For example, maybe there could be a dwarf type class that could fit through spaces half as tall as a normal size character, but he would be slower. You could also have slightly bigger characters that couldn't fit so well through areas, but could jump higher or hit harder. I just like the idea of having a lot of variety in character selection.
Or for example, every race has the minimum weight and heigh, along with the maximum. When the player creates a character, he could be able to change those two aspects of the character, or maybe click a "random" button, which decides those ones for him. This could turn out as pros and cons. A small, agile guy could move faster than a huge, chubby guy. A big and tall guy, would be good in fights and more resistant to damage. When this is mixed with the races available, it would turn out quite interesting!
Actually, judging by the amount of people who are against pros and cons of different races, I don't think that they'll be put in. However, I do think that you should be able to change the height/weight of your character, but it shouldn't really have an effect.
Tiy actually confirmed (In the IRC I think) that height changes wouldn't work (unless it was only a VERY small change, which means it wouldn't be to noticable). If I can find it i'll post it here.
Well, I think height changes would be fine, as long as they didn't have any effects. As long as it's aesthetic only, I'm fine with it, and I'm guessing most people will be as well. Also, instead of just having the races be a different size, I think a height slider would be better.
Yeah, I see your point. I think the original concern may have been door height, but they may have found a way around that. Guess we have to wait and see, ultimately.
I'd really like to play as a knee high reptile with a rocket launcher. ...yes, I got that from that wallpaper... But I would! So different races having different heights would be a very nice addition, though that could potentially unbalance stuff
True... Ok, let's assume that the player is 3 blocks tall and 2 blocks wide, like Terraria. The player could have a height anywhere from 2.0000.....1 blocks high to 3 blocks high, in which case their head would be in the hitbox no matter what. It would make dodging a lot harder though.
Although in Terraria, I recall a player resizing, a Fiery Greatsword SPRITE, and not resizing the hitbox. That sword Reached out across the map, and no Code was changed. Maybe The hitbox CAN change with the sprite.
In which case shorter players have an advantage over taller players, which is something the Devs want to avoid.
Unless their weapons scaled with them, or some other downside occured. It would be a great thing, but at the same time there would be serious balance issues.
Oh no! Not advanced coding! My only weakness! And that's the problem with a height option - it would be next to impossible to make it entire aesthetic.
You don't seem to get it. If you're smaller, aiming at you will be harder, you can fit in smaller places, etc. Even if being taller makes you stronger, it doesn't make the slightest difference if you're being hit by twice the shots
Still won't make a difference unless max health becomes completely unbalancing. Between the various races and their genders, each one could have a different height and be balanced, but not amongst the members.
