I don''t know if this thread has been posted before, but here i go

It would be so cool if there could be in starbound planets that don't have a atmosphere, or that have a thin atmosphere. You will need spacesuits to explore them, and moving around would be difficult(like hoppin or something).
Also there could be monsters or some other artificial life form adapted to the environment, that could be difficult to fight beacuse of the moving restrictions.
There could be also air reserves problems with the spacesuit, so you could build outposts to recharge or some awesome exploring vehicle that could be driven and could recharge in the same way your suit. This vehicle is unable to explore all the sorrounding area, and in order to explore caves or abrupt mountains you will need to do it on foot.
The outpost you build may be equipped with some artificial gravity something, that could make normal gravity inside.

These worlds, so hard to explore, can have very rich resources and rare artfacts that could make it worth it.

On these barren planets you could get lucky and find either a stranded outpost with npc's witch you could help, a hostile outpost full of advanced enemies or even a desolated outpost to loot. You could also find many of these.

There could also be randomly occurring savage sandstorms, and if you get cought in open you will need tu dig and wait for them to pass, or else you could get killed or thrown far far away from your original position.

Also the spacesuit techonolgy could be used on asteroids or even on your own space station to get outside and build yourself new labs and rooms to your own like, giving the station more space, rooms and living quarters for more npc's.

There could be many more to add to this thread, so any ideas would be great...

a good idea for this planets without atmosphere, is a planet with an underground atmosphere, and protected by a very solid thing. something like this:

(yeah, super cool ores in this planet)

    lol
The thing is, that it has to be hard to mine, because inside there are mobs that attack in group, and are carnivores, and they have you for lunch! MWAHAHAHAHA

the next step for this would have to be bases with life support elements to safely survive those aforementioned sandstorms

Firstly, I think this is a great idea. A lack of atmosphere would act as a basic, reasonable manner in which to implement a benchmark for advancement, and to encourage and justify the player's search for better technology.

I'd like to know why you've decided that it would be more difficult to move about under such a limitation. It makes sense that it would be difficult to get around on a planet with an extremely thick atmosphere, since your visibility could be more limited and/or the increased atmospheric pressure could make it more taxing, but on a planet with little to no atmosphere, difficulty of movement would be the realm of terrain and gravity. Storms, such as the one you described, could pose issues but that's more a matter of climate than atmosphere. You could have the same thing occur on planets with thicker atmospheres. Ours, for example.

I am sure that at some point in game everybody will just get bored of exploring earthlike planets.
I find space exploring great, and if the devs would include this type of planets in the release, the game will definitely be the best indie ever. Just think at all the posibilities!!!!

Amazing idea my friend.. This is much like the movie Promethius, where the atmosphere SUCKS and they have great space suits and driving vehicles and such... What about adding infections? :D AMAZEMENT INBOUND cCcChcHCchhCHhhCHHHCHHwc woooo hoooo!

    But for inside atmosphere ...
How creator can make this ?

Well of course. Having a wide diversity of different planet types would greatly increase the amount of time someone could put into the game before succumbing to boredom, as it would quite effectively increase the play value of the game. That doesn't really address my curiosity over why you're of the persuasion that a planet with no atmosphere, or a very thin one, would be more difficult to traverse though.

Ok.... I have a thing for space exploration, and needing lifesupport systems on some planets in order to explore them would make the game even more interesting... and realistic;)

And the difficulty of traversing them would be even sweeter.
    I just like it.

You do not seem to be understanding what Tetrys is saying, nor have you truly answered his questions. Therefore, I will try my best to clarify this for you. When Tetrys asked "why you're of the persuasion that a planet with no atmosphere, or a very thin one, would be more difficult to traverse though", he did not mean, "Why are you interested in this idea?" He meant that lack of atmosphere generally does not make it difficult to move. When you see people floating around or hopping on the moon, that's because of low gravity. Less gravity makes it harder to stay grounded. Thus, moving around freely is rendered difficult. Like similar bodies, the moon doesn't really have much of an atmosphere to speak of, but that has nothing to do with the lack of free movement, which is entirely due to gravity. So, to paraphrase, Tetrys wants to know how a lack of atmosphere has anything to do with hindrances in mobility. I hope that this makes more sense to you now.

It would be kind of you to respond to this. If you do, however, please keep your reply relevant to the topic at hand. :)

You're right on planets with no atmosphere you can move easier from point A to point B... BUT if you add the slomotion effect and inaccuracy of spacehopping it would be ALOT MORE DIFFICULT to move in tight spaces or dodge incoming bullets. THAT IS WHY I SEE IT TO BE MORE DIFFICULT!!!
Also, from my point of view, you can jump higher and you can leap larger craters but the speed will be drastically reduced. Add the fact that without a jetpack or somekind of spacemoving something mounted on your spacesuit, you can't control your jumps after your feet leave the ground.

Sorry for not understeanding what you meant Tetrys
    Thx SpaceWolf

Ah, I think I know where the trouble is stemming from then. Here, I'll give you a run-down of my thoughts so things make a bit more sense.

The title of the thread is "Planets without atmosphere" so it stands to reason that the thread would focus specifically on that topic. Taking that into account, when you said, "You will need spacesuits to explore them, and moving around would be difficult(like hoppin or something)," it made it seem as though you were trying to justify difficulty of movement by way of the lack of/thin atmosphere, when, in reality, you were describing a combination of low gravity and atmosphere. Two entirely different factors. Unfortunately, this wasn't precisely made clear, and so, confusion occurred.

In light of this, I have a suggestion. You may find it beneficial to restructure your main post. To begin, you could describe the basic idea on it's own, with no regard for its potential combination(s) with other factors. Having something to the effect of, "My idea is to have planets with no atmosphere, or very little atmosphere." (You have this, but I can't help being thorough.)

This could be followed up with describing what issues this would cause in its own right. Such as:
    • Limiting what types of armors could be used on such a planet, as they would need to be airtight
    • Dictating how you build bases (The need for airlocks and other such precautions)
    • What kinds of mobs would be most likely
    • Anything else you can think of
After that, you could go into the potential of this idea in combination with others, such as low gravity making it more difficult to judge your jumps (Until you get used to it), which, combined with the limitations on what armors you could use (Everything else you have could have great stats, but the only "spacesuit" you have could be awful), could be potentially fatal, making things more difficult. Similarly, you could describe what effects the combination of high gravity and no atmosphere could cause. It would be difficult to move about because you wouldn't be able to jump as high, and you'd still have the spacesuit handicap. Things like this are interesting, but they aren't the main idea, so they shouldn't be presented as such. They're results of the overall topic. Side-effects.

No need to apologize. We just weren't on the same frequency. It happens.
