I was once again looking at the pictures of starbound, when i noticed the planets in the background of this picture:

now, i was wondering, do you think the planets in the background are explorable via starmap, and does their size depend on their distance, for instance, if you were on smallest planet(farthest i guess) would the sun be closer, but the current forest planet be smaller? I think that if so, it is a pretty awesome feature. This also opens up the assumption that the look of the planet could be caused by its biome, and thus have different decals, for instance, a water planet with small islands, or a barren wasteland planets with volcanoes. Just so much to speculate on...

    Woah hold on there,
    - I don't know for sure, but real distances between planets and stars sounds really complex, but I'd be really amazed if it's in.
    - Planets aren't just going to be one biome for the whole entirity, more a theme I suppose.
(also Gredd don't quote the whole image in your post)

Not to burst your bubble, but I'm sure that it has nothing to do with other planets.
I hope other explored planets come up though, maybe if you explode X amount of blocks there would be a crater in the sprite?

I am also not sure about the distance, but what i meant by the planet biome explanations is decals on a planet, like a barren planet wont look like a barren planet with volcanoes since there would be lava and volcano decals on them

Thanks, I didn't realise that when first looking at the picture :)

Travel is going to be in realtime, so it's going to take 6 years to get to the closest planet.

Nope, because we're going to have Mass Relays!

There's an exploding planet in one of the BGs.. I think it's the Tentacle Planet.

The planets really do make you feel in space, but I'm just super glad that the sun looks beautiful and actually is placed realistically.

Agreed, the graphic idea on the suns is far better then Terraria.

In fact (i think), when we clicking on the map, we transpored to the planet, and map remains in the background.

I wonder if you could explore the surface of stars with the highest level of equipment. Basically a whole planet made of superlava. But you could have Star Dragons swimming in the sun, or crazy sun creatures. That would be really spectacular.
