Hello, I had an idea yesterday about this game, I kinda wanted it to be kept secret, but here it is anyway.

Imagine a planet with only a single being on it. That being is the planetary god, a living intelligent being that control, volontary or not, how the world react throught his emotions.

If the being is in a good mood, then plants will grow, the planet is going to show its beauty to the travellers and the travellers will be allowed to ask for a favor towards the Planetary God.

If the being is in a average/neutral mood, mountain will grows, the riches of the planets, hidden in the soil, will not show itself. Depending from the Planetary God personality, state of mind, age or past experience, the world will be different.

If the being is angered or attacked, Volcanos will come out of the earth, Thunderstorms will apprear on a planetary scale to smite the planet and yourself, earthquake will shake the entire planet, meteor will fall from the sky, the plants will transform itself to attack you, The very planet itself is going to show the wrath of the planetary god throught transformations and events. Apocalypse, Armagedon, Ragna Rok... Those were nothing until you a planetary god is angered.

If the Planetary God is killed, the planet will soon follow. The plants will wither and cease to exist, the land will become barren, the soil is going to become dry and dusty, the Sky itself will become black, plonging the planet in complete darkness, Silence will fall on the planet. Altought, not everything is lost. In the corpse of the Planetary God, a gem of such rarety and power lies dormant, used to fuel the now deceased God.

The Idea behind the Planetary God is that being such a "God" shouldn't exist in space, but there are these being of incommensurable power that could use the planet to destroy you or to harm you, to make resources out of nowhere and that are unexplainable (for now).

In the event my idea is accepted, there should be different type of Planetary God:

The Child: Easily pleased and angered. His age makes it impossible for the God to control his feeling. His joy fill the planet with a beauty that only a child could think of. His Sadness make the world weep, the wind cries and the rain to drop with a feeling of heaviness. His anger make the planet shake, the sky to darken and the earth to crack, making easy for impatients travellers to fall and become lost.

The Curtain God: His world is death (not a typo). The God will try to draw the curtain on your life, reasonning with the God is impossible as his desire is to share to the travellers his experience on how the curtain closed on himself is the only thing keeping him going. You will have to fight him as the curtain of life is still widely open on your stage.

The Futile God: As he live, he is bored. As he is bored, his world empty itself to reflect the god boredom. Since the resource (plants, the earth, the food) of the planet die as the god slowly dies from the inside of boredom, the God has to get a new planet. The only event that keep the Futile God from dying of starvation or boredom is finding a new planet. As he move his planet to enter in collision with another planet, the Futile God fill with glee. His old planet, while crashing, fuse with the new one, creating a bigger planet. Since his old Home now fuse with the new habitat, he keep control of the world... As he is gonna make it crash again to entertain himself and to make him survive. If you manage to entertain him, the closest planet will be safe, for now. If you nourish him, the God is gonna wait before making a new home, but not for long, as he is still dying from the inside of boredom.

The Sins God's: 7 Planets with 7 differents Planetary Gods, representing the 7 capital sins of space travel:

Anarchy: Creating chaos among your friendly travelers will always lead to suffering for the entire crew or population. Causing Anarchy in a restraint habitat is the equivalent of throwing oil in a fire near exploding powder.
Order: From when you wake up to how you should walk to what you should eat... A strict Order lead to control abuse and to tyranny.
Selfishness: From the Food found or from discovered resources, greadiness prevent the survival of the group and the survival of the self-indulgent person. He is the Séraphin Poudrier of space.
Hoarding: Similar to Selfishness, hoarding is a sin, but it is an incontrolable sin. Compulsive and obsessive, it lay dormant in the mind of a few of its victims. Mountain of loot will crash on you, disease and viruses will grow among those cluttered habitat. Those who participated in a Civil War or are civil engineer will protect their sinned items with deadly traps.
Wrath: Throught Invading or intimidating your fellow survivors, wrath will cause your downfall one way or another. Wrath is the Mother of all Sins.
Arrogance: For those who have travelled in an professional way or respectful manner between planets know that arrogance is a vile sin. Thinking that you are better than the creatures you encounter or the races you will meet will lead you to hatred, mysantropy and xenohobia.
Apathy: One of the most dangerouns sins. Doing nothing lead to nothing. In a space craft, instrument tend to breaks and necesite repairs. Maintenance perpetuate the life of the ship, but Apathy slowly, throught doing nothing, lead to the accelarated end of the life of the ship.

When uoi encounter a Planetary God, I want it to be an extremly rare, rewarding and challenging event. In most cases, you might end up fighting a God and the reward will surpass the frustration and the hardship you went throught

If I get new ideas of gods, I will post them. If you have a suggestion, make one.

    ***EDIT***

The Planetary Gods aren't actual gods. They can die, they can't kill you with a snap of their finger and none of them are responsible in the creations of races or creatures.
Someone suggested to me to change the name to Planetary Avatar
Also, do not take everything I wrote as the suggestion. Think about the concept behind it, I give it to the community to make it its own creation

Basically, a being (god) has all the power of a living planet (post here). When the god dies, the planet starts to lose its power and everything dies.

I think it's an interesting idea. If it couldn't be implemented at the time of release, it would be a cool addition afterwards. I think it would be really cool if the planets with said gods could declare war against each other, like in Roman and Greek mythology.

It reminds me a lot of Eywa from the movie Avatar. It also reminds me of the trees from the Doctor Who episode "The Doctor, the Widow, and the Wardrobe."

This... Is not bad... In fact, if I'm embarrisingly being honest, it's probably one of the coolest ideas ever! :3
It reminds of the Master in Actraiser. Not sure why, but it does! :p

Very very interesting and cool concept, I just don't see how they would go about putting it in the game though. Seeing lots of very interesting suggestions on these forums, keep up the great work guys!

Reminds me of Princess Mononoke, but with a planet and not a forest.

Hmm, it certainly sounds like an awesome idea, but thinking on the scale of things that would be required for it, I get the feeling that the game itself wouldn't be able to handle updating an entire world so much, without some pretty heavy lag, unless most of the events were centered on the player - especially things like the cracking of the planet.

If it could be handled in a low-lag manner, it could turn out really well though. :D

I like the idea of living planets. Love the thought of the planet reacting to your actions. However difficult that may be.
Though I am not so keen on the idea of a single being walking about on its surface that controls everything.

  10. This is quite an unusual idea and one I would love to see implemented.
