Planetary Destruction

We have all kinds of planet types, as we've been told. Well... one thing I personally would like to do is have the ability to destroy a planet. Accidentally or not. Whether from weapons of horrendous power from your space station or perhaps damaging or destroying the planet's core, it's a feature I think would be... quite interesting.

 

Well, It would actually have it's uses. I mean, once you've pillaged everything on a planet (excluding homeworld, of course), and you've no longer have a reason to go on it, might as well blow it up for the light show, right?

 

You dig into the centre of the planet and flip the big red Self Destruct switch. Even though it is very clearly signed "Do not press!".

 

So THAT'S how the Death Star blew planets up so easily.... it was able to detect a planet's self destruct button and fire a drilling laser that would hit the button. NOW it makes sense. =P

In all seriousness though, something about being able to blow up an entire planet would likely give me some degree of satisfaction. Despite being evil due to the possibility that you might be committing genocide, blowing up planets.... just sounds fun.

Yeah, you're thinking about that too much. I said the "possibility of committing genocide." I know I wasn't overly specific on that but still. It wasn't an important detail.

 

I was only trying to make blowing up a planet sound less "Evil"

 

To hell if it is evil, blowing up a planet is still awesome. So yeah, let's blow up planets!

Blowing up a entire planet sounds fun to do, especialy if its a level 100 one.

 

Shhhhh if its evil people wont let us do it, try to make it sound less evil then they wont care so much .

 

Blowing up a planet is not evil if you destroy a evil planet.

 

Damn right we just saved the galaxy from that evil world. Do we get medals? NO we are classed as the evil ones .

 

Let's make it like Spore where you use a planet buster and watch it collapse into itself then give out a violent explosion.

 

I like Drithyl's idea. BLOW IT UP ANYWAY! Who cares whether you're committing genocide, sounds like fun to me! =P

I do love the Planet Breakers of Dead Space. Why blow it up, when you can break it down for every scrap of useable resource?

 

it has to be done in a dinky little cutscene. stop animation playdoh! a planet being blown up with little fireworks. lol

 

Could be a neat concept as well. I doubt they'd easily be able to do this but I'd be astounded if they could.

 

I believe a similar suggestion was placed in the mining mechanic. But I believe it also can be classed as planetary destruction as well

 

I pictured the Stellar converter from Master Of Orion when you said this, this is an excellent idea.
Destroying millions of blocks in the blink of an eye, leaving a shattered, desolate asteroid field.
