Planetary Cores

Ok so was wondering, Terraria, Minecraft... in most cube world things when you dig deep enough you hit Lava/magma, but from what I understand on an actual planet if you dig deep enough to hit stable state liquid stone, it has more chance of being under pressure and spewing out then just staying there looking pretty.

So this might have been covered but I did not find it:
1: Can you dig to the planetary mantle on any/most worlds?
2: Will the magma there be under pressure or sitting there in lakes (pockets)?
3: This would be the coolest part but I seriously doubt it... would/could magma have a material composition?

Anyway just some questions about the fact that we are on actual planets in Starbound instead of fantasy island/planes thing.

Thanks in advance for any answers.

Nobody yet knows what deep planet interiors will eventually hold (except devs, if even that). It was never discussed by devs in public, to the best of my knowledge.

I noticed lava in an earlier stream, but based on how it looked, it's almost certainly a work-in-progress version and not the final thing we'll see.

As well, although there will be some kind of deep planet content, I don't think it'll be as extensive as Minecraft of Terraria, for reasons I discussed here.

As for stuff like volcanoes or other massive lava eruptions, while cool, any such massive liquid movement would be very performance-intensive on the game. Which is probably why Terraria never did it. It would be great if we saw something like that, but don't hold your breath.

    1. You can dig to it, but not through it.

    2. Probably just in pools. Haven't heard anything about pressure.

    3. I have no idea. I'd assume it's just lava.

well, The core can't be reached due to too much lava, unless you apparently can swim through lava

The last time I checked, I did not see pressure.

Theres no composites in the lava lol, just plain lava.

Blue has this in his Announced Game Information thread in the FAQ forum
    • Round planets have a super-heated core at the centre that could melt the player. But not all planets will have molten at their core, some may have other impassible barriers.
That could of changed though during development but that was the last official word we had on cores.

Yeah, this is something i've been hoping will be revisited later on ever since I heard about the current state of the cores (impenetrable, regardless of the type). Like i've said before, there's so much that could be done with the cores, and so many cool ideas, that it would be a shame to just leave them as blobs of unvisitable material.

Even if they require super hard to get/develop tech and lots of danger (drill machine/ship/mech thing capable of withstanding pressure/heat/drilling through super hard material/whatever, special suits you need to wear, etc), i'd love to see cores be visitable and have unique biomes of their own (molten core, hollow world, mega-geode etc) as well as rare/unique/abundant resources and other stuff to explore.. Some people might object on a realism basis, but my feeling on it is.. it's sci fi, let's go with what's fun over what's realistic, as long as it makes some sense in the context of the game itself. :)

I'm gonna be Home Worlding a Moon... It'll be optimum for me if the Impassable Core Strategy for Moons was some kinda invincibly strong flat bedrock kinda thing... then that would be a perfect Foundation for a deep Underground Base to rest on.

I also agree that it'll be way funner if there's more than one kinda impassible core that different kinds of World Biomes can have, & it would also be epic to have a couple of Cores be reachable & explorable, including the afore-mentioned possible 'Planet Core Mega-Geode'... :DD

Even if it is not in game in the beginning, mods can/will make it so eventually. Saying that, they really need a mod section on the forum.

There likely will be once the game is out, I think the devs have said as much (unless my brain made that up).

They already announced in one of their few vids that you just hit an impassible wall of lava.

It stinks, but its necessary, considering the worlds are cyclical.

Shame. I was hoping to mine out a planet's core and make a house there ,and armor myself using the core as material!

You hit lava, its impassible, so you can build in the lava, you will though hit the core witch IS unbreakable, so you can build RIGHT on the core it=f you wanted too, good luck getting in and out...

If i remember correctly there have been mentions of "core-biomes" , so I guess there will be things other than lava.

It would be cool if there was a small chance that a planet would have a huge underground world almost like another biome. You would dig and dig and eventually reach the ceiling of this underground biome. The distance from ceiling to floor should be great enough that you would need a safe way to reach the floor.

It'd be a great griefing tool if you could just dig to the core of a planet and cause lavajets to spurt out

I have no clue, but I must comment. My guess is it will be only accessible thru some sort of portal that loads a new area. Warning (Speculation not fact)
