This was a bug I reported in late September; I was directed to make my own thread about it.

If I open a game session and travel to a planet with one character, everything is fine. If I travel to a second planet without quitting the game and relaunching, the game crashes.

If I travel to that same planet after relaunching the game, it works fine, provided I don't travel to another planet after that without relaunching the game.

This limits me to traveling to a single planet, then having to quit and relaunch each and every time I want to travel elsewhere. Quitting and relaunching before I travel between planets seems to solve this problem completely, but it is very inconvenient.

    Operating System: OSX 10.9.5

Full disclosure: I have 11 characters.

It looks as though you may have a corrupted world and/or universe generation file. Try renaming the universe folder and relaunching the game (a new universe will be created for you).

When I do this, what will happen to my characters and ships?

Characters and ships will not be deleted they're stored in the player folder. Btw are you using any mods? It can be a mod related issue because it is a so called "null-reference" error and i've never discovered this one in a stable vanilla starbound.

I don't use mods; I don't know how to install them and, insofar as I've been specifically bug-hunting, they would be detrimental.

Build: Beta v. Enraged Koala - Update 8, Protocol: 643
Assets: Enraged Koala 20140424, Digest: 2bf95bf6

    Computer hardware:
    Mac Pro 3,1 (Early 2008)
    Processor : 2 x 3.2 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon
    Memory: 8 GB 800 MHz DDR2 FB-DIMM
Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT 512 MB
    Software: OS X 10.9.5

I suspect the game might be running out of memory. I can't prove that, but it would explain my other issue of 3D Printer items and Lore entries being overwritten.

Hm it's hard to say which object is causing this error because it hasn't a vector set.

Just a thought: Can it be that it has something to do with the dye of the dirt blocks? "libsystem_pthread.dylib"
@severedskullz maybe you got an idea?

  7. No. You wouldnt get only Lua errors if that were the case.
Its some sort of object, NPC, or monster causing the issue. Those are the only entities that use that vector function AFIK. Custom techs could use it, but as the OP stated he does not use mods so thats out of the question.

OP Has clearly messed up his world somehow - and I dont quite know how. Deleting the universe is probably the only solution to it at this point. It was never made clear if OP is traveling to the same planets or not or if they are going to new planets each time. If it is new planets, Id definitely say a reinstall is in order.

Both. Previously visited planets and new planets, and only if travel is done twice in the same game session.

If I travel to a new planet or an old one once, everything is fine.

    Twice
without quitting the application first, and the game crashes every time.

  9. Then you definitely need a reinstall. If it was just the same 2 planets, Id say clear away those planets and re-generate. If its new planets then somethings either corrupted with your core .pak contents, or something wrong with your ship - as thats the only thing that could possibly exist between planet warps.

Here's a last resort. Move out your universe and player folder from the starbound directory. Make a new character and play the game for a bit and see if you have the same issue. If so then reinstall the game. If not - it likely was something related to your saves.

Your suggestion of a corrupted package got me thinking.

So I backed everything up, went into Steam and selected "Delete Local Content." Then I installed the game again. Then I launched the game, expecting to make a new character.

Apparently "Delete Local Content" deletes the application and perhaps a few other things, but it does not appear to delete anything else.

So all my characters were still there, all their ships were still there, and I loaded the ones I've been having transportation issues with.

Having reinstalled the game, the crash issue seems to have been resolved, and my saves, universe, and most importantly the large house I built on a specific Alpha planet, all seem to be intact in spite of that. I need to run a few more tests to be certain, but it looks like it was the application/package that was the issue.

It also looks like this may have fixed my 3D Printer problem, and you have no idea how happy that makes me. Going to run a few more tests with Lore.

  11. Delete Local Content only deletes files that were originally PUT there by Steam - so all core starbound files, but not things like Mods, Players, Universe, or even the things like the .configs which are generated by the game upon being run for the first time. That common misconception is one of the BIGGEST frustrations we face when we tell people to delete the game and not simply going to "Delete Local Content" in Steam.

Very happy that you got it working!
