After looking at on Twitter post from Tiy, in regards to map size and map looping, he stated that it was capable of both looping maps and maps with set boundaries. My though was to have one planet generation parameters set in place, and to produce multiple terrain lay outs in a limited map. In short, to explore the same planet, but within different landmasses. Ultimately leading to a much larger planet dotted with landing zones all in a manageable scope. Frankly, I would find such a system of smaller, interconnected, areas linked with some sort of rapid transit system, to really throw in a better sense of size. Granted, I feel that having a world that loops in on its self makes it feel a bit small and rather odd. It would be like walking around the equator with no longitudinal dependency. Any thoughts?
I somewhat agree, but i still love Tiy's idea with the world looping. It would make much more sense than Terraria's worlds having "dead ends".
I like your idea. While looping makes some sense, it suggests that we never stray from a thin slice of the planet. Youre idea gives planets depth by letting us stray from the "equator." To make each area/continent/zone feel like its really a different location, some parts of the planets terrain and creature generation would have to change, while keeping some things (like gravity) uniform across the planet. If they decide that each whole planet will be treated like its own area though, I would prefer looping over boundaries.
The thought, as it presented its self in my mind, was to have these planets like actual planets rather than a huge cylinder that loops. If not that than have a planet that takes 2-5 days real time to traverse with obstacles like a couple mountain ranges, deep oceans, and things of the sort. A real reason to have multiple bases and outposts on your planet. It would also be nice to land in these separate areas moving goods and personnel to these positions. think of it like quick travel points you have to build.
