I'm not sure if it's already planned or even implemented, But I think that there should be scenario's on random planets for instance. Faction Wars: It'd be nice to see the planets have some life, or rather the extinction of another race. Say you land on a planet there are two factions fighting each other and your caught in the middle. These factions Era's will be randomized, Perhaps you'll encounter tribal factions battling for territory, Medieval Factions fighting for their Honour, perhaps you'll encounter factions similar to ours during World War 2 fighting for freedom, and Of course you'll be able to find Modern and Futuristic Civilizations for silly things like Natural Resources or technology. You can pick to fight for the prettier looking side or decide to fight for whatever offers the better reward (Both Rewards should be equal but both be unique, imagine your looking for Armour one side is offering this Armour that's better, and the other side is offering you a weapon, you'd pick the side offering Armour wouldn't you?) and go through a series of quests like; Eliminate the ground forces. - This is the part where you eliminate any forces you encounter on the way to the enemy factions city, pretty much any force you encounter out of the enemy's strong hold. Storm the gates. - The way this stage of the faction war can turn out can vary it could be as simple as walking in and killing a single guard, I'd much rather prefer a scenario where your ally faction comes in with a battering ram and take a minute or two to knock down the gates and you gotta spend that time defending them. Another scenario that comes to mind is defending a catapult or futuristic equivalent depending on factions era as it blows holes in the enemies stronghold. OR Infiltrate the stronghold. - I've always been a sneaky bastard at heart, it wouldn't literally kill me but i'd still be pretty upset if I weren't allowed this option. but the idea in my mind right now is that these strongholds are towns, city's even fully settled on the planet so it's likely these places would have sewer systems or even for the sake of it secret catacombs, perhaps filled with randomly generated but sewer or catacomb based parameters, and of course futuristic equivalent based on the factions era. Eliminate the town. - Here you can genocide the enemies Stronghold, The Guards, The Woman, The Children, The Peasants, All of them. or you can let the ones that don't attack you live and maybe they'll reward you in exchange for letting them live, but of course anything they offer you can be taken when a swords stuck in their chest. This part could be more interesting how I'm currently thinking about it, there could possibly be stages in taking over a town, perhaps controlling and defending a capture point of some sort. Deal with the King. - Now this is the part that decides the future of the Planet, You may decide to let the king live perhaps he'll offer something in return like information on a hidden treasure? Perhaps coordinates to a planet of interest? Nothing as good as the reward he was going to offer you for fighting with him but some compensation for the continuation of his life. Of course sometimes you'll be chivalrous and you'll decide the only way this war will be won is the death of the king. Aftermath. - This part of the list is really just an idea of what could happen, Perhaps remnants of the faction you destroy will rebuild and you'll be forced to do it all over again, perhaps they won't rebuild they'll just exist on the planet and attack you on sight and you could be commissioned to finish them off, perhaps another faction will invade from the skies, or perhaps an ancient civilization will invade... from underground..... (Oooo Mysteries) Planetary Dysfunction: Perhaps a Civilization on a planet has been having trouble, strange trouble, Weather patterns are strange, the Animals are more hostile then usual, Something inside the planet has gone horribly wrong and you've been commissioned to figure it out why. the basic is idea is to travel to the core or close to the core of the planet and defeating a monster, perhaps just by pressing a switch that was accidentally pulled by a passing monster, perhaps there are some cultists at the core of the planet trying to summon their god. The Civilization will reward you of course. Investigation. - Now getting to planets core is easy enough however knowing exactly where the disturbance is will be the hard part, I'm thinking questioning the planets inhabitants. maybe when your digging you can find clues like certain block patterns point in a certain direction, Maybe there will be books about the planets history giving off clues to the location of where this disturbance may be located. Time to Dig. - After investigating perhaps when the game is done there will be a fully fleshed out navigation system where you'll get quest markers and you won't have to do much of the thinking your self, but this part is where you would dig down and find the dungeons monster or the cultists planetary core lair, or a simple switch that you just need to flip. Deal with the Disturbance (Cultists and their delusions). - Alright so you've discovered the disturbance turns out it's a bunch of delusional cultists, time to destroy them, their leader and everything they hold dear, perhaps once killing them all you need to disable and dismantle a machine they've built that's messing with the planets core, perhaps their god is real and they end up summoning it, Well you've probably defeated gods before, Time to do it again. Deal with the Disturbance (A Monster feasting on the Core). - You've found the disturbance turns out it's a monster feasting on the core, what do we do with monsters who wish harm upon the innocent? you harm it, With swords, and guns, and death. Perhaps this monster will be accompanied by mini versions of it self protecting it, perhaps an dungeon accompanying this monster that you must fight through. Deal with the Disturbance (The Big Red Button). - You've stumbled across a roaring machine, with a big red button and a few hundred signs pointing at it saying "Do not touch" You press the button and the machine stops, or perhaps something or someone doesn't wan't you to stop what they've started, and they're willing to fight you for it. Invasion from the skies (Or underground?): The planet in question have been scanning the local space and have noticed a large force heading it's way to the planet, you've been commissioned to fend of the presumed invasion, or perhaps they have detected readings in the ground that are suggesting an invasion force is coming up? Either way you can decide to help fend of an invasion or help it succeed, say you fly to the invading force fleet and dock on their ship and suggest giving them support for a reward. Fend off The Invaders - This stage of the quest is where the invaders land on the planet, they don't know where the civilization is locating so they're sending scouting parties to search, your job right now is to eliminate said scouts, they're landing all around the planet. Defend the Civilization - Okay, sooner or later they're gonna start realizing some of their guys are dead and gonna send a larger force and find the civilization without a hitch, This part could be where you defend the towns gates and entry points for a few minutes. Fight Back - Alright the Civilizations had enough, they wan't you to fly up into there capital ship and kill or force surrender upon the leader of the invading force. I imagine fighting across a giant space ship that has randomly generated elements like enemies perhaps engine rooms that are platforming puzzles where you avoid turbines or something along those lines perhaps you could fight through the ships sewer system avoiding poison water, stuff like that. Or if you've decided to side with the invaders, it'd be pretty much like the faction war where you attack the Civilization in stages. I have more idea's but i'm far to tired, It took me about an hour to write this and it's not even much, and I fear not many people or anyone really will read the entire thing. Now that I think about it, this may be the wrong section, I put it in this one because all of these quests are received by NPC interaction, and a lot of the quests will involve interacting with AI.
This is a brilliant idea IMO but it seems quite complicated to pull off so it might have to be done post release.
That's what I was thinking, the games gonna have modding support apparently so I'd be willing to implement the idea my self. Despite having no coding a knowledge, and not willing to learn. I'd actually just be yelling at other people and whipping them as they create the mod.
