Planet Caduceus - A Starbound Roleplay
What is this?
OH. HELLO. Didn't see you come in! My name is Talzion. Welcome to the Planet Caduceus roleplay. I've got alot of things to explain before we get started, since this is going to be [ Completely different ] than the way you're used to roleplaying.
To give you a bit of an example as to what this is going to be, THE RP IS GOING TO BE TAKEN PLACE OUT OF FORUM.
What does that mean? Well, it's self-explanatory, a third-party client is going to be handling all the roleplay from here on out. Whether you want to do so, or not, is totally up to you!

Here's a bit of a sample as to what I mean.

Well, considering this is being worked on, I think It's safe to say that a lot of what you see there is placeholder material for plot and scenario features pivotal to the story. For example, the rules, message of the day, title, and the bleakness. BUT DON'T WORRY. Everything will be explained in-client for you, so the daunting features down below don't seem so daunting!

Okay, but what's it about?
So, I had been thinking about this for a while, and I figure It'd be great to set some groundings on what it's about, rather than give vague descriptions. SO HERE WE GO.​

1. A private military corporation named the 'Ascension Co.' are a primarily human-based federation tasked with the duty of making sure all inhabitants of Planet Caduceus are kept on-planet. If any ships leave the atmosphere, they will be taken down with extreme prejudice. Teleports out of planet, will be intercepted into Ascension frigates for reassignment back onto the planet.
2. Respawning is not technology that is on Planet Caduceus. Death means Death.
3. At the start of the roleplay, the planets technological rates will be set to Tier 1, the lowest tier. Expect the long-term for this RP to be centered around getting to the max Tier of technology, and fighting back against Ascension Co! The roleplay ends, when the survivors manage to escape the planet.
4. All races, fan races, mod races and race-races are allowed, If you want to be a Kangaroo race, GO FOR IT. There are no limits here.
5. Magic is a thing by use of innate biometrics and psionics that Ascension Co. had disabled on you before shipping you down onto Planet Caduceus, so you couldn't have fought back prior.

Why?
I think it goes without saying that the thought of forum roleplaying (While in itself is fine, and I love to do it from time to time). I just feel more comfortable with a client and dedicated platform by which to keep track of things and organize events. Not to mention, it seems pretty nice for something short-term to get your roleplay fix. There are a lot of features on here that can make roleplay a lot of fun and easier for coordinators.

Okay. But what can it do?
I'M GLAD YOU ASKED, SENTIENT, DISEMBODIED VOICE!​

1. From a coordinators perspective, this puts a heavy load off of your back keeping track of all the players and characters.
2. Dedicated forums inside of the client, so you can leave messages, apply for characters, keep track of important events and storylines and best of all, Intuitive, in-client logs, so you're never quite lost on whats going on. (Unless you're lazy, like me :c )
3. Low resources, can pretty much run on anything that runs on potato power.
4. Not that hard to get into and start, albeit daunting interface.
5. In-depth admin system. Trolls can be ban't, Dedicated roleplayers and veterans can be promoted to Supporter for additional features and recognition.
6. Create multiple characters for multiple situations! You're not restricted to using just one character!

PROBABLY NOT YET. Sorry. I'm still in the process of setting up the storyline and hiring staff. But this is a great time to get feedback! I'd love to hear some of the thoughts on this, and depending on what I hear, it could either flourish or disappear! WHO KNOWS! But don't worry, Once I get some dedicated staff going, and inform them on how to do things and have a genuine interest (And it's okay with forum mods) YOU CAN JOIN IN THIS ROLEPLAY.​

As of 12/13/2014, The server is being set up and is in it's final stages of development. Soon, you'll be ready to attend the world of Planet Caduceus RP!

You may download the standalone from here.​

Once you've downloaded the file, go ahead and run it, you'll be greeted with a bunch of different servers with different tastes and styles. You want to go ahead and click the Login button on the upper righthand side.



Afterwords, you'll need to go to Manage Account, then set up a BYOND account, this is free of course. After you're done, sign in, and join Planet Caduceus!


Once you find the server, Go ahead and click 'Join' and enter the password: Starbound
That will let you sign into the client, and you're on your way!​

WELL YOU CAME TO THE RIGHT PLACE. I could always use some people to help me moderate and watch over this RP, since it's mostly live and out of the starbound forums (And therefore, out of the watchful eye of our moderators). So having some extra hands is always nice! Heres how you can get into contact with me!​

1. SEND ME A PM. No, really, this is the only way to do so. I check them regularly, since I shadow starbound forums often. I do have some caveats to this however.
2. You must be atleast 18 years old. I want maturity when it comes to being a helper on this sort of thing, Atleast know what common sense.
3. Have roleplaying experience. Yeah, I want to be able to trust that you know what Godmodding, Metagaming, spiting and what pressure-play is.
4. Do not worry about not knowing what to do when something happens. I'll bring you on the server and teach you what to do and how to manage the server, as well as answer any questions you may or may not have.
5. Have -some- HTML knowledge (Know how to make imgsrc codes, formatting and basic attributes). This will be explained when you're brought onto the server.

How does this work?
Erk. I knew this question would come sometime. And it's why I was so hesitant on posting this to begin with (See: My nervousness about advertising). See, This client was made in a third-party program called BYOND, generally, it's a hosting platform for creators and artists to host their games and software on it. (So technically, I'm not advertising for BYOND Per-se, I'm advertising for the third-party software it's hosted on). It's such a confusing mess of grey area when it comes to talking about this and knowing about the rule about advertising, I figured I'd just throw it out to the wind and see if it sticks. Which is why I don't have anything prepared -just yet-.

SCRATCH THAT. Turns out the creator of the client made a standalone. So now you don't need to go through this process that requires going through BYOND. Once everything is set up and I'm ready for viewers / roleplayers, I will post a link below to the standalone. Free of course.

The RP forum is for RP (and RP OOC) threads. Since you plan on hosting the RP outside of this forum (making this basically an announcement rather than an RP in itself), I'm going to move this to the General Discussion Forum (although it does fit multiple categories). I've also edited your thread title to make it a bit clearer what you're proposing as well.

As far as advertising goes, as long as you're not promoting a for-pay service, goods, or a website/service that forces users through adfly or a similar ad click-through, then you're likely fine. If you're not sure, you can always ask a moderator first rather than posting and waiting to see what happens.

Edit: you may want to add a header to your post with the RP name and such.

Hmm... I'm not as big into RPing as I used to be (had some bad experiences with friends who wanted their characters to be the stars and mine to take a supporting role that gave me some bad RP habits and turned me away from it for a long time) but I'm beginning to get back into it. I'll be watching this thread, and closer to the time that it's all ready I'll hopefully know whether I want to do it or not. =) Good luck!

Can definitely recommend this! Checked it out and have had nothing but pleasant experiences so far

 

Just dropping in here a few days later to say I've been on RPU in the past and Talzion has always been a really great server host there and that I definitely reccomend her RP.
However, @Talzion: You ended up with a few inbound players on my server by accident, and we tried out best to send them over to you. It may not have been completely successful, so make sure everyone knows how to navigate properly to it!
