Planet Bookmarks

There's one thing as I play through that I feel is sorely missing: a means of annotating planets of interest that I want to come back to without writing down (or copy/pasting) piles of seed coordinates.

Consider this: Accidentally making a new planet "home" without writing down the coords for your actual home base.

Other places I would want to travel back to are planets with particular merchants, or large worlds that would take several gameplay sessions to delve into.

A simple menu in the navigation area of the ship would be perfect for maintaining a list of 'points of interest' where players can keep track of places in the galaxy that they've visited without tedious note-taking.

The only thing right now is, with the expected addition of (significant) ship upgrades, planet-side bases will be largely obsolete.

Without a bookmarking system, there's no point to even establish anything other than a 'spawn point marker' so I know when i've covered the full planet surface, then leave and never come back. The 'Home' marker is nice, but it's a pretty tenuous grasp on the larger concept of exploration and simply keeping track of where you've been.

While there might be no need at all to settle down and start building (yet?) there are still many people who will do it just for the sake of building. That's something they can probably never do on their ship.

I'd also really like a bookmarking system, best a global one saved seperately from everything else, just coordinates and notes for them.
This would make a lot of sense especially in the instable Beta phases as you could explore to your hearts content and collect targets for later when it's stable and way less likely to get wiped (and even if would you still have the bookmarks again).
I know you can still do that already but taking a screen of a location with the note written into the chat is helpful for keeping it but going back to it is rather bothersome, not only because you have to type in both numbers but also because you currently can't hold backspace down to delete the current ones.

So I beg the devs to really consider adding some bookmarking into the nav menu.

Can no-one search these days? Have you not checked for someone who already said this? This has been said sooooooooooo many times and I find it insulting to the original people who thought of this and wrote longer explanations and ideas that you would not take the minute required to find out you have not thought of a new idea and that you are not the first person to suggest this.

I mean this was the beginning of last year.. The navigation system we've had is great and all, but for servers and MP, the ability to bookmark certain planets would be ideal. We need to get this navigation system in the game, it's really needed.

Yeah, yeah. You're not the first one to suggest it. Devs stated that what we have now isn't a final version.

And I won't be the last. It needs to be a priority.

  9. I don't mean to be disagreeable, but this problem can be solved with a piece of paper and a pen. I think implementing the progression components and combat improvements takes significantly higher priority.

I do mean to be disagreeable, and the progression components and combat improvements you seek could be solved by paper and pen (tabletop games).

Okay, I lied, I agree with you.

I also agree with the OP that Navigation Bookmarks should be a priority, but I do not agree that they should be the highest priority. To me, they're the higher end of "Nice to have" and the lowest end of "Need to have".

I believe an upgraded navigation system is going to be part of the next update. Not sure if it will have bookmarks, though.

The starmap is currently in the process of a complete overhaul. If that includes tracking systems for planets etc we can't say yet.
But a mechanic added to an outgoing system isn't all that practical

It would be nice to have, no question but it is hardly a game breaking problem and is easily rectified with very little effort. When compared to other mechanics, I don't think it ranks as a high priority.
